Modders are already hard at work on bending the code of the recently released PC version of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to their will. Early success: topless mod FTW! Before everyone jumps in and criticizes the mod's author for being a lonely, sophomoric h4x0r, you should read what he has to say about the mod:
"Please note, this is a realistic nudity mod, not a pornographic one. The file included removes the bra welded to the skin of females of all races, showing things as most people know they are in the real world after removing upper body clothing. It will not show every female in the game as topless. I do this because I hate government/society/whatever forcing companies to 'protect our innocent population from seeing those evil dirty things 50% of them posess personally anyways' not because I'm trying to turn it into a porn game."
Regardless of intent, there are boobs in it, so use your best judgment before checking out the uncensored (NSFW) video after the break, or go here if the embedded video doesn't work for you ...

Modders "hard at work" to create this? Gimme a break, Joystiq. The files for this are INCLUDED with the game. Bethesda included the bare skin textures and meshes. All you have to do is extract the files and rename a couple.

here's the previous stuff in the article joystiq conveniently left out.

Ever think that maybe the creators of the game chose to clothe them because a topless character didn't make sense in the environment they created and not because of pressure from some unidentifiable political power?
I'd love to hear from the mouth of a developer if it truly was "government/society/whatever forcing companies to protect our innocent population from seeing those evil dirty things" that prompted them to render the characters the way the did.

Umm, dudes, it's sort of a joke. The first mod is topless models.
In my upcoming 4000pg book detailing the history of this mod, I go into much greater detail about the technical process used by said modders. In this post, I figured you could click your mouse, read the post, and see for yourself.

I would like to see full on hardcore sex. It should contain a minigame to control the action and it should use wasd or mouse movement to pull of cool moves.

This is worse than the Hot Coffee mod. I am fuming mad about this travesty. Why won't people think of the children? This game should have been rated Adult Only and only sold in stores where kids can't get in.
I'm drafting up a letter of complaint about this right now for my congressman and I suggest the rest of you do the same unless you want people to think seeing the naked body is good. Next thing you know kids will think women should walk around topless, and believe their female friends/wives/sisters/mothers should become strippers and prostitutes to satisfy their lustful urges. We wear clothing because our bodies are sinful twisted versions of Gods perfect image, just seeing a naked body can corrupt a person so badly that they will become an abomination. Only though legislature and additional laws can we protect ourselves from weakness.
I am also starting up a campaign to require all pets to be clothed while in public. Having naked animals gives the impression that it is ok to see sexual organs, but we all know that many studies have proven that seeing a naked animal is the first step into wanting to see people naked and only one step away from complete chaos. Every single rapist had seen a naked animal at one point in their lives, and therefore we can easily conclude that this is the reason they are driven to treat women as sexual objects, not people.
Please, think of the children.

This message is directed towards Art Guy, a Christian who is commenting first and foremost on a pagan game “Oblivion”, yet he has problems with nudity in the game? Why would a Christian talk in behalf of a pagan game when in the bible paganism is a sin? I think art guy is a bible salesman who is only writing on this blog only to propagate his own brand of fascism, only he is to ignorant to recall the fact that Adam and Eve went against gods will by realizing their nakedness, going against gods will by “clothing themselves” (written in the chapter of Genesis/meaning beginning). Secondly, Oblivion is appropriately rated do to the fact that the patches are being created from separate entities than the creators of the game. The nudity patches are being created by hackers not Bethesda SOFTWORKS company. Thirdly, these nude patches can’t be attained by children as all pages require an age consent and require a fee for download.

Someone point out to me WHY a person would want to install this mod? I know that the article says not to bash on the author for being sophomoric, but unless you have a nudity fetish, why on Earth would you install this thing? Granted there are some big cultural differences between America and Europe and how we view women's breasts, but how would this enhance a game experience? I can't even think of an environment in the game where I would expect to see topless women running around. What IS the point of this mod other than a pornographic one for men who like women's breasts? There are plenty of other mods that actually bring some value to the game, like the portable bed roll, I love that mod.

If you REALLY want to change an oppressive society's laws or norms, organize a movement or write a frickin' letter to a Congressman. Exposing pixellated boobies on a video game is only going to make you look like a lonely freak who needs real social interaction. And if you really want to make a statement, why not make everyone nude in the videogame, including men?

To be fair, some of the most popular types of small mods for Morrowind were clothing add-ons. The Metal Queen Boutique and Slof's Goth Shop added clothing that depended on the Better Bodies mod, as they featured unusual collars and hems, and occasionally plunging necklines. You could make the argument that removing the underwear meshes from Oblivion makes these types of mods possible, as the underwear might conflict with the look and the functionality of the clothing objects.
But let's not kid ourselves. Let us also not be judgemental, and allow gamers to be entertained in whatever manner they see fit. If that happens to include exposed breasts, then fine. Individual freedom should be exercised when available.

The game shows people in their underwear. For most females, bras are underwear.
Now, had he removed every bit of underwear from every gender, well, he'd have slightly more validity. But not much. Not to mention no one forced Bethesda to do this.

I think its more about the lack of realism that a troll wearing a bra creates. It can take you out of the world of the game and remind you that you are infact, playing a game.
I do find this kind of censorship a bit silly and annoying, but I wouldn't go so far as to try and correct it myself...
...although, now that I think about it, I did do the same thing to the Giants: Citizen Kubuto game way back when...

As far as who would want to see a feline-headed humanoid with exposed boobs... check the internet- you'll have your answer. =P They've been around for over 20 years and it's nothing new to them.
I personally want another rise of the Mog*Mod to be released. Those moogles were awesome. =D As far as Better Bodies goes, though... there's really no harm. =P The game doesn't center around a theme of sexuality (much), and when it does, it's a joking or passing theme, like the Guildmaster's son being gay, or a group of females robbing male perverts blind. Nakedness in a game where it doesn't center around a theme of "Holy mother, lookit those jubblies!" is the weakest battlefield for a legal argument pertaining to moral standards in non-exposure. No judge in his right mind would take such a case seriously. =P

Okay, wow. Let's get some freaking perspective here.
In the game you are allowed to wipe out entire factions of people, steal, murder, whatever you like and people freak out about seeing a pair of breasts? I don't know who it was that figured that out but they ought to be shot.
Now don't get my wrong, I like the stealing and murdering just as much as the next guy, but I hardly think that seeing some breasts is going to corrupt anyone.
What we appear to have here is the inability for us to ever seperate church from state, we grew up on these rediculous morals held up in the "Good Book" and we are forced to conform to them even now. I for one do not follow any book and I find nudity and violence to be completely acceptable in entertainment. Let those that find this innappropriate turn away and hide from their nature.
As for children becoming corrupt due to this horrible depiction of nature, I have this to say. Read the rating on the box and don't buy it for your god damn kid if it's not something you consider appropriate! Hmm there's a thought, actually parenting your child instead of blaming society for own failure as a human being. Congratulations.
And to explain the statement of the author. Basically he's saying that game companies shouldn't have to go to great lengths to remove the sexuality from characters in no matter how minute a detail. Sexuality is normal and occurs in nature, there is no point in hiding it aside that the rules tell us we have to. I say it's time we changed those rules.

Those sure are some perky, perfect C adolescent troll boobs there. They look nothing like national geographic, and more like...fake boobies. Call me traditional, but wouldn't troll breasts hang? I mean, it really looks like they were born in bras and only took them off for the first time just now. I don't know how much variation one can expect from a game, but it might help the 'non-pornographic' claim if they weren't hemispheres with timy nipples over impossibly small waists. Pixel me an upside down triangle breast, and maybe some thickness in the middle, and you've got a troll/wild creature female I can believe in. How 'realistic' can a fantasy game be when females of all ages and races look like a puberty Skipper (tm) doll? Give 'em shapless sacks to wear, and we can avoid the bras and the breasts that look like they have invisible bras 'ruining' our realism.

most of you guys are just hating. I think the games we play should be much more realistic. I'm kinda sick haveing to play game that are supposetly "realistic" and there clothing don't rip or, there not naked when you customize you charactors. So I agree with the the creator of this game. If your under age and you play this game... then it's the parents falt.,. don't fu** it up for the people who are of age and want to play these game...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok. I am a big modder for the previous elder scrolls game and can give a little insight. I know for a fact that people trying to "make the game natrual" or "realistic" just want to see animated nudeity. it is not realistic, no one walks around topless in socity, real or otherwise. and for the modder, if you want to see nudeity just say it outright, dont feed us that "fighting the government" krap ither. also, those who say the sex or nude mods are "funny" "halarious" or "amusing" mean they love it and only say it to cover up the fact. and for those who say " oh this is a sin and it will warp the minds of little children". to those- first; dont let little children play a rated M game, and I dont think seeing a little animated nudeity will turn him into a womonizer. and if you dont like the mod, here is a thought, dont download it, better yet dont buy the game. dont misinturprit this, i have no love for this mod or its kin, but it is all choice. i personaly dont download those types of mods, and no one else has to. its all choice.
