DS gets a rumblin'
The DS Rumble Pak is now
available direct from Nintendo ($9.99). The peripheral plugs into the DS's GBA slot and is compatible with
games such as Metroid Prime Hunters and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. One question: is the
rumble pak gonna stick out on the DS
Lite? Ewww!

Umm, haven't they had it for sale since a little after Metroid Prime Pinball was released?
DMON @ Apr 7th 2006 1:35PM
thats what i thought. i didn't know it was ten bucks though. i'll have to check that out.
Kn1ves @ Apr 7th 2006 1:36PM
it was an extra on Metroid Prime Pinball, now its sold separately
fable2323 @ Apr 7th 2006 1:43PM
I can confirm that the cart as does all GBA software, sticks out of the DS Lite. Kind of annoying to look at but never gets in the way.
Gary @ Apr 7th 2006 1:43PM
#3. I know it came with Metroid Prime Pinball (that's where I got my rumble pak from), but I swear it's been up on Nintendo's website for sale for a while now. I know for sure it was there for sale when Mario and Luigi: Pit was released, and I think it's been on the site since before then.
Ken C @ Apr 7th 2006 2:05PM
Man all you Weblogs inc people are really slow Nintendo has been selling this on their site for a long time now. I bought mine back in January for $10 from their online store.
SpottedNigel @ Apr 7th 2006 2:16PM
Yeah, its been for sale alone for a while... but since it works for MP:H too, might as well make note of it again
AceMilo @ Apr 7th 2006 2:17PM
You can get Metroid Pinball for about 25 bucks on ebay. What do you guys think, should I buy this fot 10 or metroid pinball for a little more? Is there any difference between this one and the one in pinball?
Stakker @ Apr 7th 2006 2:23PM
I remember reading that there's supposed to be a Lite-specific version later on.
D dogg @ Apr 7th 2006 2:26PM
Does anyone actually care about "rumble" anymore? I mean, if the next upcoming consoles didn't have rumble in the controllers, would you actually care?
Other than to bitch just to bitch (which most people would do anyway), would you actually *care* or better yet, would it actually matter if the next controllers didn't have rumble? I doubt the revolution controller with have rumble... but it may.
I just don't see why rumble is actually a big deal anymore or even "news" or actually even mentionable.
mercatfat @ Apr 7th 2006 2:26PM
"You can get Metroid Pinball for about 25 bucks on ebay."
there's been sub-$20 copies on Amazon, used, for a while now. that's where i got mine, and it's a pretty stellar deal if you break it down as two seperate $10 parts.
Stakker @ Apr 7th 2006 2:29PM
AceMilo: I think Metroid Pinball is definitely worth the extra $15. A very nice "futuristic" pinball game with multiple tables and a cool Metroid theme. And my Pinball rumbler works with Hunters and Mario & Luigi too so no problems there.

#9 - When it first came out for the N64 I totally though the Rumble Pak was a gimmick. After having it for so many console generations though, I'm pretty convinced it really does add to the experience.
I don't know if I'd miss it in the Revolution, though, as it's such a new experience who knows what we'll miss and won't?
SpottedNigel @ Apr 7th 2006 2:41PM
Revo will have rumble.
LongshotX @ Apr 7th 2006 2:58PM
Nintendo Go is going to suck.
LongshotX @ Apr 7th 2006 3:04PM
Nintendo Go is going to fail miserably once people see how gimmicky the new controller is going to be.
Jon @ Apr 7th 2006 3:09PM
1) Nintendo Go was a fake name.
2) Full motion capture isn't a gimmick.
3) The DS rumble pack has been on sale for $10 for months now, even since late 2005.
Uglypimp @ Apr 7th 2006 3:09PM
Everyone here sucks. You'll don't know what your're talking about. So just go somewhere and play Pokemon Blue!
Joystiqqer @ Apr 7th 2006 3:11PM
I like Duckhunt guys.

I imagined playing MVC2 with my Sanyo remote and half of a Dual Shock 2 Controller. The Sanyo remote or Sanmote was in my right hand while the half of the Dual Shock 2 was in my left. I pretended it had built in rumble. As I pointed at the screen and tilted the controller my Hand could sense it was being tortured by some wierd input device. My Mind processed the information and the events that had happened were classified as Gimmicky!
ElChibo @ Apr 7th 2006 3:26PM
Yea this has been on Nintendos site for a long time for $10, since the release of metroid prime pinball i believe. if not that far back, within a week or 2 of the games release, but yea, its nothing new at all
Paul @ Apr 7th 2006 3:28PM
I feel like this string of posts is progressively draining my IQ.
I'm always losing remote controls. Does this mean I'll always lose my Revmote. Hope there's a button on the console that makes it beep or something.

#16:
You can thank Ninty for the two "gimmicks" on your pspads and xboxpads call analog sticks, and that gimmicky rumble feature too...
go play ANOTHER WWII game, follower.
liteweight @ Apr 7th 2006 3:46PM
wait, and the shoulder buttons too... AND the directional pad...
now i'm confused... who's gimmicky???
SickNic @ Apr 7th 2006 3:59PM
Meh, I dunno if i'd get one. I like my DS fine the way it is...

The analog stick has been around way before Nintendo implemented it a controller. Rumble feature aka force feedback first appeared for controllers on the PC and Mac. Why is it Nintendo fanboys are always claiming Nintendo invented something.
John @ Apr 7th 2006 10:29PM

Nobody is claiming Nintendo invented these things.
What liteweight is trying to say is that without Nintendo taking risks to implement new ways of control, we wouldn't have the "pspads" and "xboxpads" today.
Nintendo was the first to introduce an analog stick for 3D gaming and it became a huge success which made Sony redesign their PS1 controller to include the analog stick for their system. Same thing happend with the d-pad, rumble feature, shoulder buttons, etc. Most likely, we'll see it happen again where Sony and Microsoft will copy Nintendo's gimmicky touch screen and revmote for their new gaming systems.
idioteraser @ Apr 7th 2006 11:47PM
Nintendo improved the concept. Analog controls were really unresponive also they weren't self correcting. Same with rumble Nintendo streamlined it made it work easily with any game that was programmed for it.
Guess what most pc games that use joysticks don't use rumble at all even though the games make sense to have it. Also the console versions often have it.
Nintendo did invent the d-pad on the game and watch. If not for Nintendo you wouldn't be using analog sticks, any control pad, rumble, shoulder buttons, also analog controls such as if you press a button long enough the button does another function.
KillJon @ Apr 8th 2006 12:50PM
There's no accurate way to predict what may of happen had Nintendo not "invented" the D-pad, analog stick, or force feedback. It's probably safe to assume that someone else along the way would have developed the technology.
neoimmortal @ Apr 8th 2006 3:17PM
I have had the DS rumble pak since I bought the metroid prime pinball. Works good for the pinball and hunters.
