please tell me this is third party! Hopefully if and when Nintendo releases a TV tuner (Assuming this is not by them) it is much more... uh sleek. No better way to kill a beautifully new designed ds lite than with a black brick TV tuner.
The Japanese says it is sold by a company called Agatsuma Entertainment, and will be available in Japan beginning 29 April (delayed from 20 April). It runs on six batteries for four hours, and recieves "terrestrial analog broadcasts".
Nintendo has made their own TV tuner for Japan (granted, it can only receive signal from 1seg, but I wouldn't be a surprised if a US version was made to receive UHF/VHF waves...). Nintendo's own device plugs into the Slot 1 of the DS, and is only about double the size of a DS Game Card.
This is 3rd party and judging from the size it most likely includes PHILIPS tuner - the same that was used in GBA TV tuner and ATI TV / Video All-in-Wonder cards for PC. Will require 4 AA batteries and it runs HOT. Batteries die in ~2h (on GBA)

this thing is a heap... i have a DS and i'd never get that
even if that is third party, who wants to watch tv on their 2 inch DS screen? isn't nintendo supposed to be all about the games? the DS is great portable. they're making so many good games these days and now they're trying to feed us this bullshit... waste of money
Yeah, this is a 3rd party product. This was actually touted around the same time as the launch of the DS, but has been delayed for ages. Worse, is that now the original DS will be discontinued and it's waay too big for the lite.
This is a thrid party device originally for use with the GBA. Its for sale now at Lik-Sang and for only $89. This has been around so long that it pre-dates the SP (thus the wide shape). The Nintendo official I'm sure will be more like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v348/BPMdotEXE/Random/DS-TV.jpg
Heh heh, what would be cool to see is a three pronged adapter so you could play your gamecube, ps2, or xbox/360 (and n64, ps, etc.) on that. Other wise that thing looks pretty much whacked.
