Readers pick best webcomic (April 2 - 8, 2006)
Oops? That is the only reaction we can give to poor Chris, the author of Digital Unrest, whose server we crashed after nominating him for the Weekly Webcomic Wrapup. While I'm sure he appreciates the exposure, our "linkage raped the meagor servor [sic] resources I had dedicated to my site" (according to his comment left over the weekend). Still, we liked his comic and we have uploaded it to our own servers so everyone can enjoy -- so, click here and enjoy.
Of the 5 remaining contestants, Ctrl Alt Del's satire on the retail industry took the top spot, followed by Mac Hall and Dueling Analogs in second and third, respectively. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know of any game-related webcomic that you stumble upon this week! (We will try to host the strips of any lesser-known webcomics who fears for their server.)
Here's the breakdown:

[Contents removed at request of Joystiq readers; also, this post was completely irrelevant to the topic at hand ... which was webcomics ... and not the Florida Bar. However comical you might find some aspects of the letter to be.]

Kinda sux how they only got 34 votes due to the error. I myself voted without seeing their comic.

I wasn't aware that Chief Justice Pariente or Justices Wells, Anstead, Lewis, Quince, Cantero, or Bell worked for Joystiq. Fool.
Probot @ Apr 11th 2006 4:35PM
I'm sorry Mr. Thompson, but your legal problems do not qualify as "real video game industry news."
As for the weekly web comic, it's sad that Digital Unrest didn't work during the poll. It was by far the funniest that week.
jaemz @ Apr 11th 2006 4:41PM
This loser posing such tribe off as "real video game industry news" sure is funny.
Now if wackedjack only had a picture to go with it, I am sure he could easily win the web comic of the week award.

Hahaha, Jack Thompson is the biggest f^e< up of a "attorney" I've ever seen.
And this just cracks me up:
"Thompson's campaign for prosecutor was reportedly also prompted by rumors that Reno was lesbian. He gave Reno a letter at a campaign event requesting that she check a box to indicate whether she was homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual. Thompson said that Reno then put her hand on his shoulder and responded, "I'm only interested in virile men. That's why I'm not attracted to you."[6] He filed a police report accusing Reno of battery for touching him, so she asked Florida governor Bob Martinez to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate.[7] The special prosecutor rejected the charge and concluded that Thompson did it as "a political ploy." Reno was ultimately re-elected with 69% of the vote. Thompson repeated allegations that Reno was lesbian when she was nominated as U.S. Attorney General, leading one of her supporters, lieutenant governor Buddy MacKay, to dismiss him as a "kook".[6]"
Do you like me? Circle [yes] [no] [maybe].
Ben @ Apr 11th 2006 4:53PM
Heh, I like that he thinks that we care about him. Oh, Jack, if only you were a comedian I could laugh more at you!
gwangi @ Apr 11th 2006 4:58PM
Wow! Jack is really attention starved isn't he. Although I can't help imagine what a no-holds-bar cage fight between Jack and Janet Reno would look like.
On a side note, every time Jack Thompson posts on Joystiq a kitten dies. Please stop posting Jack, think of the kittens. You dont want to be known as a kitten killer, do you?
renaldo @ Apr 11th 2006 5:04PM
Jack has had sex with a taco.
Michael @ Apr 11th 2006 5:05PM
lol @ jack
"LOOK AT ME!!!"
boylie @ Apr 11th 2006 5:17PM
1. that has absolutely nothing to do with video games, you pompus jackass
2. next time, wait until you actually WIN a case before spouting off about how great you are. you'd seem rather foolish for boasting about how you're suing someone just to lose the case (or be thrown out of the court for acting the way you always do)
seriously, would you like me to issue a press release to you everytime i start playing a new murder simulator?
SuiXide @ Apr 11th 2006 5:20PM
@10:
That pretty much sums it up.
@Joystiq:
Why isn't Jack banned yet? Oh, wait, he'd probably sue.
Ross Miller @ Apr 11th 2006 5:45PM
It is gone, and for the sake of preservation I will keep the other comments up. However, any other comments pertaining to the now-deleted letter, following my comment here, will be deleted. Thanks, now pay attention to the comics at hand.

I wrote that before it was deleted, honest!
Anyway, congrats to the comic winner!

Back to topic... So what did Ctrl-Alt-Delete's comic have to do with video games? I realize computers are related to video games, but having worked retail (CompUSA, specifically) before I didn't even find this funny; it was just annoying. It's not about video games, and you guys pass up Penny Arcade all the time for that reason. And last week they even had one about the Oblivion horse armor:

The sad part is, Chris's comic was actually the funniest, and I think it could have (and should have) won if the server hadn't been broken by the deluge and most voters couldn't see it.
Oh well.
BlingBlong @ Apr 12th 2006 5:43PM
I knew we had to be missing out on a gem; the Digital Unrest comic was by far the best since it was actually funny.
Digital Unrest FTW!
Chris @ Apr 12th 2006 8:16PM
Hey, this is Chris again. I've got the site up and running again on a much better server. Thanks for the support and to everyone who got a kick out of the comic.
