Ubisoft confirms Red Steel, Revolution exclusive
Ubisoft has officially announced
Red Steel for the Nintendo Revolution. The game's existence was leaked late last
week from the unpublished pages of Game Informer. As reported then, Red Steel will feature
motion-controlled sword- and gunplay utilizing the Revolution controller's unique functionality. Ubisoft's chief
creative officer Serge Hascoet confirmed that the title would be exclusive to Nintendo's next-gen platform, stating,
"We have been working closely with Nintendo to take full advantage of the innovative controller to create a
thrilling experience that can only exist on the Revolution."Today, Ubisoft revealed its intention to turn Red Steel into an ongoing franchise, with the first title joining the Revolution's launch lineup. The game is set in contemporary Japan where players must master both "the ancient art of the katana" and modern firearms. Ubisoft also confirmed that Red Steel would be on display at E3 next month.

F*cking awesome!
All we need now are some higher res screenshots and a leaked video...hehe...
Mullinator @ Apr 11th 2006 5:30PM
There are some new scanned images and they do look a lot better. I can't post them here however, just do a little browsing on the gamespot forums to find them.
Pickypants @ Apr 11th 2006 5:30PM
Yeah I am down with learning the ancient art of the katana on my rev!
Finally, I hope more titles start rolling out!
Sabre @ Apr 11th 2006 5:35PM
Oh sweet...thx!

So.. we get Nintendo's strategy now? The DS can play PSP games, but it doesn't work the other way around. The RS will have ports but the PS3 will not be able to do RS games...
And yes, those were in-game screens.. before anyone says it..
Grissom @ Apr 11th 2006 5:40PM
Virtua Cop 2,anyone?
This looks very promising and heck, its the first revo title we see...the hype is breaking my brain!
Raikage @ Apr 11th 2006 5:42PM
Wow this is good for Nintendo, they need more third-party exclusives. Also Nintendo never launches with a good Third-Party game (well not many) ...this one looks promising. I hope it's online...split screen seems like it wouldn't work right...What do you guys (or girls) think?
Viva la Revolution...
Gonzo @ Apr 11th 2006 5:57PM
I don't know if it'll help improve my swordplay but this has got to be fun.
Now (well, since I saw the screenshot) I'm really looking forward to the Revolution.

"I hope it's online...split screen seems like it wouldn't work right...What do you guys (or girls) think?"
I did some poking around on the Gamespot forums and based on some posts (I would take them with a grain of salt btw) they said it will have both splitscreen and online supports. Being "splitscreen" I can maybe see a problem with it unless they manage to find a way to do a vertical splitscreen and not make the screen appear squished.

This is a first-party game in Ubisoft skin :)

Those are the ones that were previously posted Matters...I mean full res pictures not from a photograph or magazine.
striderhayasa @ Apr 11th 2006 6:52PM
How would split screen work though? I would think that it would cause problems for the remote to calculate two to four wireless inputs at the same time. I gues not. @ #10...I agree. I think UBI soft is trying to cash in early. It makes sense though. Development kits for the rev are cheap and the development evnvironment they are already familar with. makes sense.
TheGreatDave @ Apr 11th 2006 7:28PM
Revolution can handle four wireless inputs at once. There will be no problem with split screen.
Paul @ Apr 11th 2006 7:29PM
Split screen sorks like on any other game. You just aim on your side of the screen. Did you seriously believe Nintendo was going to make a console that couldn't calculate two to four players?
mountain_rage @ Apr 11th 2006 7:39PM
For split screen they just have 4 controllers to calculate its no differnt then using 4 wavebirds. The only differance is that the revolution will have to calculate more info then a tradional controller but it cant take that much power. Theres also been some info leaks saying you can play from any angle and theres no need to resync if you go to a friends house, not sure how that works.
Matters @ Apr 11th 2006 8:51PM
eh well there are some extras in there that I didn't see the first time so I thought maybe thats what you were talking about.
Anyway I got sick of digging through that forum looking for pictures. Guess I'll do it later.
Matters @ Apr 11th 2006 9:31PM
I think the whole thing about the Revo handling 4 controllers is a non-issue. Do you honestly think Nintendo would make a newbie mistake like that? I bet even the GameCube could handle it and I'm sure the Revo will be more than capable.

I'm content :-) If it ends up looking like that, I have no problems whatsoever. Man, it better be good.
