Following yesterday's official
Red Steel announcement, Ubisoft has launched the game's (teaser) website. Visitors are given a choice: the
gun or the sword? After a selection is made, the site will launch into a dumbed-down motion-controlled mini-game: move
the weapon with the mouse and click on it to shoot or slash at predetermined points on the screen — we trust that
the actual game will be a tad bit more sophisticated. After three clicks, the Red Steel logo will
appear and a side note prompts for registration in order to receive "exclusive information" (read: spam

Is this supposed to be some sort of Spike vs. Vicious motif or something?
I don't have faith that any company other than Nintendo will make fun games to play with the remote any time soon. I don't like first person shooters. The sword thing looks neat, but not that neat. Without controller feedback for impacts, anything short of exact 3D control over the sword won't be impressive enough.
Because of the timing but mostly because of the forced hype, Red Steel looks like it'll be a crappy game cashing in on the concept of being the first "hold the actual sword / point the actual gun" type game. Just speculation though. I'm looking forward to what Nintendo will do with it for the new control scheme for Mario, and it pains me to see some third party developers fresh off of Xbox and Sony games take Nintendo's innovation and attach it to their default first person shooter declaring to have ushered in the new era to make a quick buck.

GlitchCog, this is UbiSoft we're talking about, makers of Splinter Cell, Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia, and just about every other great third-party game in the last generation. Give them some freakin credit.
Thinking only Nintendo can make good games for their controller is kind of ridiculous. No. It's ridonkulous. That's right, it's a whole new word I had to invent. Ridonkulous.
You really think Sega, EA(not so much EA but some of the smaller, decent companies they own), Ubi-Soft, Tecmo, Capcom, Konami, Square, and other such companies aren't as capable as making good original games as Nintendo is? Of course they are.
Ubi Soft didn't "take" Nintendo's innovation and attach it to their game, after demoing the controller they came directly to a meeting with Miyamoto and Iwata, pitched their idea, and were given the go ahead, and have been in direct contact with Nintendo while working on the game.

Based on all the information that came out from the magazine article, it really sounds like they're going _very far_ beyond just making a revolution FPS.
I guess almost all the big things revolve around character interaction. You actually have to behave around characters, they get pissed if you walk away while they're talking, you interact with them by using the remote, and you have to take specific actions to convince them to help you and earn respect. You're basically going to be organizing a gang war. On top of that they claim it's going to be non-linear and will focus on developing skill and control.
I'm actually almost a little worried that they're going to set the bar too high for some good 'ole vanilla FPS port to succeed on the revolution!

Oh and Paul you did not make up the word ridonkulous... its from that show, you know the one, but that will be our little secret. And if you tell ANYONE about it, ANYONE!, I will come to your house and I will cut you!

Point and click...a light gun shooter like the old Zombie shooters-you might as well play a PC with a mouse and keyboard, and relegate the console as we know it to a gamer's museum of great ideas that once were. This Revolution gimmick is going to end up as one big trainwreck for the serious gamer. I'll give it one nuance tho-it looks like it might be quite a bit of fun for the very young gamers.

troc 59 you are simply not informed. Or you simply just like to bash Nintendo and/or the Revolution.
Red Steel is NOT, I repeat NOT, a point and click light gun shooter!!!
RED STEEL IS A FULL FLEDGED FIRST PERSON SHOOTER!
That is all.

After reading the official press release, I rescind my previous comments. The information in those scans seems to have addressed my concerns about this being a FPS port and also that they weren't concerned with this being a first impression title.

Funny how the idea of a revolution means taking existing game genres and replacing the controller with a motion sensitive remote. Isnt that what Xavix (http://www.xavix.com/) already accomplished? Wait, i think i've seen this concept even prior to bowling on television, ya thats right, its called the f'ing Arcade! Revolution is going to flop worse than a clown at a birthday party.

Why is Revolution going to flop? Because you've seen it before? So the other consoles are doing something that's more unique?

all you angry fanboys are dumb, its very easy to see your ignorance when you run out yelling to everyone how much you think this game will suck ass, even though none of you have seen more then 4 screenshots of it, heard enough about it, or even actually play rev let alone this game.
so please, shut up, we don’t care what you think. go back to playing your Xbox and pc games now.

Yeah I must say it was very immature to go saying that revolution has stolen an idea from something else or that its games will suck when we don't even know half of what the revolution is about. I mea come on playstation copied the same concept that nintendo did why you guys failing to mention that?

This game is obviously a lightgun-style on-rails game. I will purposefully ignore all information to the contrary. It isn't interesting, because it isn't, just because I said so. Revolution = Virtual Boy/Xavix/Radica TV games/Power Glove! YARGH!

-The two triggers on the front of the analog unit activate ducking and jumping. The analog stick controls movement, and the revmote controls aiming. No rails."

It sure is humorous to see you Nint.fanboys jump on a guy IMMEDIATELY as soon as he/she makes a comment that even smacks of anti-Rev. Not unlike a pack of army ants on an interloper [that territorial thing]. You don't even need a post-grad in Sociology 101 to extract tidbits of insecurity and immaturity here! I am quite certain that you not only know one another personally, but also share the same paper route. Chill out kiddies!

This is basically reiterating what #28, said, but... I'm pretty sure the controls are basically like keyboard and mouse... replace the keyboard with an analog stick and replace the mouse with the revomote (which is actually much more capable than a mouse). No rails... just sweet aiming and free movement.

I hate when ligitimate conversations are carried away by fanboys. The 360/PS3 fanboys and the Nintendo fanboys are both equally as annoying, so stop arguing about it. Argue about the actual topic at hand. This game looks awesome, And I'll definitely be picking it up when I get my revolution.
here are some things to get out of the way:
-There are no rails
-Those are real, in-game screenshots
-It is not just a lightgun game
-Don't try to say its the same old thing, I dont see MS or Sony trying anything new
-You will not get tired or develop physical ailments by using the controller
-This is a real FPS
Now that all that is cleared up, you may continue to develop your opinions however you want.
PS. My opinion on console wars: If you're a power junkie> PS3, If you want something new and fresh> Revolution. 360 really has nothing to offer me.
