Sad that Silicon knights has to appeal to other franchises to pitch its game to the public.

That said, I love anything by SK and the mix of norse mythology with RPG elements, nasty combat, and full-game co-op play have me salivating.

Wait, so the game tries to make itself more accessible by simplifying the control scheme? Sound familiar, anyone?

elmer: I just looked up and read that article.

I had previously read the interview they mentioned and thought he came across as passionate and intelligent. I would want someone creating a story to be well versed in literature.

I'm not sure what the point of that article was. It seemed like they were trying to snipe at him because he sound "superior", which to me means they felt inferior reading it and decided to take their insecurities out on him.

I'm a member of the IGN message boards, not the greatest board system, but Dennis Dyack can be found there, usually lurking but will post to answer questions about his games. And yes, that will help boost sales. But if that were the only reason he would just pull a Ubisoft and hire someone on behalf his company to hype the game by posting on the board.

Am I the only one who remembers the CAD-comic where Ethan decides to make a game that mixes all of the genres of games into one "super-game"? With all this name-dropping this sounds a bit like it :P

Has anybody else stopped caring about action games for the PS3 and 360? After Red Steel, everything else just seems dated...

Ya know, this game sounded fucking awesome 6-8 years ago when it was a cyber punk RPG. Now it just sounds like a horrible mash of wrestling and PSO.

Bleh.

no, because after years upon years of dissapointment, I have learned to avoid the hype, and not pass final judgement on a game until it has been PLAYED. Granted, the game looks cool, but what do you do with that revolution controller in a third party action title like this. Something tells me it wouldn't quite work as well.

Now, as for these scans, I picked up with EGM about a week ago, I am really looking forward to this game now. I hadn't seen much about it until this mag hit newstands.

To be honest I also thought their critique (geekonstun) was a little overly, how should I say? Sharp? But they're always hilarious reads.
I too read the same interview months ago and didn't come away with as negative an impression, at least with the man and the interview.

I do however question the game.

It makes me wonder how they can possibly change anything and stir up a 'revolution' by basically doing everything bigger and more expensive. No, I don't really think rejigging the mapping of a 10 year old control layout will change a whole lot. I don't think a deep Lord of the Rings scale story will help bring in new customers (which seemed to be the point he was making); otherwise the lord of the rings games would have completely revolutionised the industry already, as would Harry Potter.

Even if this turned out to be the greatest game(s) ever, its sales are hardly assured (especially for a drawn out trilogy). More importantly I'm worried that raising the bar for production values and extended story telling while increasing costs and prices will only drive the industry into a more precarious position. They mentioned $80-100 million per game. Multiply that by 3 for a trilogy. That's worrying. Not because games can't be made with incredible production just like movies (of course they can), but because it makes the job harder for everyone who doesn't have a sugar daddy.

Also, maybe I'm being snobish, but I don't think you get to talk about how big a mega-hit your game is going to be until you've had a mega-hit or two under your belt. Or at least your PR people shouldn't be pushing your self assured words all around the press unless you've already struck gold - it's alright if it's in private. Otherwise it might cause a stink with the old shareholders if things don't pan out.

I thought the 360 was suppose to have better graphics then Rev. Why do these look like Xbox1 graphics.

They look like Xbox graphics because this game started development on the PS1, switched to GC development, then went over to 360 development. They've had to rework the art assets multiple times.

The only game I've played by Silicon Knights was Eternal Darkness, which was lots of fun. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, since they've obviously put a lot of work into Too Human (although I agree their original idea for it sounded much cooler).

I still think it would have played better with the Revmote (especially since they're taking out player control of the camera).
