Blood or no blood, I'm still stoked for the game. Just seems a little odd that a game name "RED Steel" has no blood.

@99
"No one I knew minded when the blood was just those dark barely discernable stains in Goldeneye"

Golden Eye had a good amount of blood! And I know a lot people that liked this feature enough to buy a import-version bc the german version was cutted. The same with Turok, for which I had to buy a non-german-version (Euro-PAL) to not having to fight against idiotic robots. And for playing "Soldier of Fortune2" in a serious way I had to add a 700MB blood&gore patch to my cutted fu*#ing german-version where all humans were cyborg/robot-somethings, so that the whole story (bio-terrorism!!!) didn't made sense anymore.
Hey, I think that it's not only me who is thinking that some blood and guts in the right way can help to create a nice gameplay...

Wow, I bet if I said the apocalypse was ten days from now, a good deal of people would think I was 100% correct based on some of these comments. TVG SITE HAS NO VIABLE PROOF! They just say the same thing every other article says, quoting the same stuff, and out of nowhere, they randomly throw in:

"...TVG has learnt that the game will not feature gratuitous violence and is unlikely to feature blood as a result."

Where they recieved such info is beyond me. Sure, the game is supposed to be about respect and sparing lives, but wasn't it also said the game was supposed to be brutal at first by necessity, and as you progress it becomes optional? Oh, and just because none of the screenshots (that I've seen) have any blood, doesn't mean jack being that there was actually no noticeable bullet/flesh contact.

Still, even if it were so, WHO CARES!? No wonder we get flaked for violent games. We sit here bitching when a game doesn't have blood! Oh, and don't bring up Mortal Kombat. The blood was a pure gimmick, overexaggerated to the point of ridiculousness and without it, began to show the game's true nature, average and dull. Also, the biggest appeal were fatalities, and those were toned down for Nintendo too, and they didn't necessarily rely on blood as much as the simple fact you ripped a dude's head off or melted their skin with a kiss.

Ever wondered that if some young kid gets his hand on this game and slices an enemy, he might think, "Oh wow! People have no blood when I slice them. I wonder if it's the same thing with my dad..." Not a pretty picture.

Of course, that scenario is highly improbable. But still...

A game of this nature should have blood as an OPTION. You want it on or off, that's up to you. Hey, why not have different blood-spray settings? You want Kill Bill-style? Realistic style? Pick your choice! Wouldn't that be nice? That, I think, would clear things up a bit. Maybe most gamers would choose the over-the-top spraying, but at least the choice would be there.

It amazes me how people can get freaked out over blood in any state, while I have to deal with it every month.... Ok, let's not go there.

How is it that you can kill all the people you want and slice them up but just because you don't have blood it makes it OK for a 13 year old to play it? Comparisons to the game Black are irrelivant. Just because two games have a first person view doesn't mean they're the same games. Black focuses on huge explosions where blood truly wouldn't do anything to the game. This game, on the other hand, focuses on shooting people in different parts and then slicing them up with a katana. This game should be more compared to Mortal Kombat (for this argument). Notice how Street Fighter didn't have blood and was successful, that's because it wasn't a game that required it. Mortal Kombat REQUIRED blood. The whole fun of the game was the blood.
I believe that this game needs to have a blood on/off switch to keep both parties happy, but I do not think, even with blood off, that this should be a T rated game.

All you need to know:

1) This has nothing to do with Nintendo.
2) It is speculation on TVG's part. ("is unlikely to feature blood" ... they don't know)
3) "Does not feature" is not the same as, "Does not have"

I don't see the point of this. It's one thing to cut out excessive gore but having no blood seems more dangerous. It removes the reality of the violence and therefore lessens to consequences. I think that having realistically portrayed death makes a game more sobering and encourages people to think twice about their actions, even if they're done to polygons.

That said, I always hate killing humans or humanoids in games. It makes me feel bad...unless they're trying to kill me...

Why are people blaming Nintendo? If you want to get mad at someone get mad at the ESRB, they are conforming to their rules.
And further more, Nintendo censored their games way back when because we, the americans objected to controversy and they just wanted to avoid any oposition. If we should be blaming anyone we should be blaming ourselves. Or to be more specific, bible thumping dumbasses in the US.

There's a number of issues here:

- Why only do half a job..? Ubi are creating a violent game, does the fact there isn't blood make it less violent? The act of slicing someone is the violent part - the blood is the result. This seems purely down to a business decision - mature games sell less, Teen games sell more... simple math.

- With all the next gen consoles featuring parental controls why not use them? Ship the consoles as 'Teen restricted' then leave it up to the parents or individual to 'unlock' their console to enable blood/gore effects. At the moment consoles ship with no restrictions and leave it up to the parents to lock them down. I guess this invalidates the rating system... a game could be sold as T and M depedning on the console settings.

- Is blood really an issue? Until someone mentioned it in an earlier post I hadn't even noticed that Black had no blood! I suppose it's subjective though. Black was a good game regardless of it's lack of blood; Boiling Point on the PC (a bad game) seemed odd because there was no blood.

- If this was a game for the XBox360 or PS3 would anyone care if there was/wasn't blood? It would never be mentioned (just as it wasn't for Black). This sort of crappy journalism does nothing but harm the potential of Nintendo's console and continues to keep this stupid 'Nintendo = kiddie' myth going.

Nintendo make and publish great games and I feel sorry for those emotionally stunted and immature people who call themselves 'hardcore gamers' who will never know the delights of playing Nintendo games.

I'll buy Red Steel if it's a FUN game, not because it does/doesn't have blood.

You need cause and effect... not true anatomy... I mean the ps3 was so hyped that I you would be lead to believe if this game was on it you could do open heart surgury on the enemys and choak them with their own hearts...LOL I mean thats gross but it you need blood that bad thats the next generation approach right? I'm sure some of you would think it's cool but how many times would you play it? and how many versions of mortal kombat did you buy to satisfy your lust for blood?

I've been playing doom3, quake3, ut2004, and plenty of games that should have blood in them, but do i ever miss it no? If you need blood that bad go see a movie or pick up a surgeons manual on open heart proceedures. I'm look forward to this game and I hope ID is thinking about the rev because quake3 needs an update on the rev. Maybe that will get the unreal guys off their ass. Really though nintendo needs to make it so they can just set up the system so that the kiddies aren't exsposed to what they believe to be adult stuff. I'm really getting tired of seeing over protective moms stop their kids from buying good games because it's adult... Please give me a game on how to truely start world war 3, give me a game on how to rig politics, give me a game on how to stick it to the poor, give me a game on why mom and dad got a divorce yet i can't play this game...LOL Nintendo is smart... Very smart these moms and some dads are the reason some games won't sell as well and really the whole stopping kids from being exspose to stuff doesn't work because eventually they will go to college or the millitary and worst of all get successful without any of thats and waste millions live "da life" then dieing from an overdoes. Lots of people try stuff because they are curious but hey I wonder if any of these parents got the guts to show their kids the real world and the one they they are trying to create...LOL

Bored kids are more vilonet than kids that have some thing to do why? They are automaticly angry at being bored... I don't realy remember the last time I played a game and wanted to take it to a I'm pissed at the world because of this game. That would be a trip but if that ever happens in games then the "movie people", and the "art guys" will have no choice but to except games...LOL as an art.

Leave it to joystiq to try and find some thing bad about a game that they know they won't to see...LOL
Hey just look at the screens do they keed any blood...

I wonder if it's ok to cut people in half or dismember them?

Hell any way I'm sure some one will copy this game and add blood since there is obviously some guys out there that are vampires....LOL or all gothic out playing video games, with septors in their other hand. Man I almost forgot about those things.... I have to make a septor attackment...LOL

Oh yeah the simple flash of red on screen is enough of an cause and effect... I'm sure they have way funner ways of displaying a hit or miss....

Am I the only one here questioning the game's name? "Red Steal" implies something metalic covered in blood doesnt it? so why would it be a blood less game? thats like calling a game gore fest but all you get is hello kitty stars and bleeps when you eliminate enemies. what the heck? why name a game "Red Steal" if it doesnt have blood or commies in it?

From the looks of TVG it is a major sony/microsoft site and they just want to stir some flames with their personal speculation. Now last time the Nintendo Revolution was equipped with parental controls which would hinder anyone from playing a mature game if it wasnt allowed, so it only makes sense that those who dont like the violence that will PROBABLY show up in the game can just stop their kids from playing it. also Ubisoft stated itself that the game was violent, i trust Ubisoft over a fanboy site anyday

I'm a bit disappointed, as I think a little blood would be appropriate for this game, but I'm certainly not looking for Mortal Kombat style violence. Does Ubisoft think there will not be a sizeable number of older gamers on the Rev? I hope not, since we want all we can get! We want to beat Sony.

I am not a proponent of blood or violence in video games, movies or real life, but it doesn't seem natural to leave it out in this case. The game looks like it will appeal primarily to older gamers anyway.

I also respect any company with moral standards, including those related to violence, but this is not a great branding move IMO. If you don't want blood, drop the gun and sword, too...

I'll wait to pass judgment until the game is actually released.

Finally, the use of the controller will actually make this more violent than Xbox or PS3 games, regardless of blood content or lack thereof. Just don't hit anyone if you get mad.

NO WHERE in the article does it say from an OFFICIAL SOURCE that the game will not feature blood. Plus am I the only one who thinks that statement seemed a little out out of place?

Wy is it such a big deal with this game? Why is the rating system being called into question now? Kids could easily get a copy of GTA before (my 8 year old cousin is addicted to those games). Have you seen GTA? You can walk up to some random person on the sidewalk and drill into them with a chainsaw, causing blood to splatter in every direction and even on the "screen". Nothing has changed. If it is rated M kids will still get heir hands on it.

Oh, and a game does not need to have *gratuitous* violence to have blood. Regular violence will do, which Red Steel will certainly have. Bottom line is blood adds more realism. It does not make a game more violent.

Why do people keep making stupid comments blaming Nintendo?

> This is a rumor, we dont know if its true yet.

> IF it is true, then it was Ubisoft's choice, and Nintendo had nothing to do with it.

let me repeat that for emphasis:
>> NINTENDO HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT
