A big
important sounding firm named Lazard Capital thinks we might end up seeing a pretty nice price cut for the PS2 soon.
How much you ask? According to the article, gamers might be able to score a PS2 slim for about $130 as early as May. A
twenty dollar decrease might not sound like a whole lot of money, but it means that the gaming industry is gearing up
for a rapid change in direction. With this possible drop in price (and we know it has to come... eventually), gamers should expect to see the current cost of games decrease as well. You can already pick up certain titles from a few publishers on the cheap, but as hardware prices go down, software costs are sure to follow.
Not too gung-ho on such a small drop? Well the firm also mentions that Sony could ease the PS2 down to as low as $99 by 2007. Of course this sort of prediction has its limits, and don't forget that Mr. Kutaragi said only last month that there probably won't be any price cuts in the nearby future (but it doesn't hurt to speculate right?). With that said, realize that this is just another firm speaking out about something unofficial which could very well change in the coming months.
