UK sales charts, April 9-15: Croft unchallenged
The UK sales charts for last
week are in, with Tomb Raider: Legend remaining calmly at
the top. Movie tie-in Ice Age 2 has been boosted up to number two, but anyone avidly following the chart
battle between Guitar Hero and Crazy Frog Racer will be disappointed to know that Guitar
Hero has fallen to 35th while the Crazy Frog is ding-ding-dinging along at number 28, thanks to its
budget price and better placement on the shelves. The ten bestselling games in the UK for the week ending April 15:
1. Tomb Raider Legend
2. Ice Age 2: The Meltdown
3. Fifa Street 2
4. The Godfather
5. Football Manager 2006
6. Animal Crossing: Wild World
7. Buzz! The Big Quiz
8. King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
9. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
10. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat

Ah mike, we do care; some of us are from outside the US, after all. I'll have a look at Canada -- feel free to send in any tips on Canadian gaming to help us broaden our boundaries!

I'm surprised Oblivion didn't make it onto the list.

Its not true that Crazy frog has better placement than Guitar Hero. I have been into HMV, Virgin and Game and all stores I went into are showing Guitar Hero on the main PS2 demo pods at the front of the stores and all over the entrance to the game isles.
Also, the staff in all these shops seem to be playing the game, not the punters. I think its simply that 50 is a lot to pay for a game and the controller looks really cheap at first inspection.
Companies need to realize we won't continue to pay 50 for games. Microsoft, are you listening to me?

It must vary by location then, Steddyman -- I went into five shops and only found Guitar Hero mentioned in one of them (window poster and boxes on the shelves), whereas I was surrounded by Crazy Frog. Neither were on any pods... GH doesn't cost any more than a 360 game, though places are more keen to discount 360 titles whereas GH is going for full price everywhere.

I live in the UK and i find that alot of people know nothing about good game. I was having a conversation with someone a few weeks back, and I asked him if he had Reident Evil 4. To my shock he said that the game was, and i quote "crap". That just goes to show how ignorant people are whne it comes to buying games and games consoles in the UK.
It's not all doom and gloom though. I've seemed to convoince alot of my friend to play better games. Maybe oneday good game will get the recognition they deerve. (Psychonauts :[)

Some of the most pleasant people I've played with on XBox Live were Britons. If I didn't know any better, I'd say a good majority of the people I met on XBL that were pleasant to game with were not US peeps. I think it's XBL's saving grace that it is an international flavor. If it were based soley for US customers, I wouldn't bother! And this coming from someone from the US!
