BenQ MP3 player adds retro Sega classics

BenQ is launching the GBA micro-esque (and by extension XGP Mini-esque) Joybee EG10 MP3 player in Japan featuring ten Sega Game Gear and Master System games, including Sonic Blast, Sonic Spinball, Columns, Putt and Putter, and more. The unit also contains an SD slot, ostensibly for holding your tunes on. This thing is obviously housing the hardware to play retro Sega titles, so how hard will it be to hack ROM playback into these boys when--and if--they leave Japan?

Definitely will be cool if they can get other roms in there too. Sonic and Phantasy Star Gaiden are probably the only two game gear games I'll ever be interested in playing. I just hope it isn't too hard to hack in some nes roms too.

It looks to be short a "C" button
DG @ Apr 20th 2006 2:12PM
There was no C button on Master System or Game Gear.
I'm sure they could have made this a Genesis emulator, at least. Who the hell wants Master System and Game Gear games exlusively? I can't even name 10 worth owning.

I'm wondering why its D pad has so much resemblance with Nintendo's? I thought they had a patent on it. Same reason why Sony, Microsoft and Sega had so different D pads. Non?

Noooo! I would not buy this thing because first SEGA is a failure they gave easily they only have a few good games like PHANTASY STAR UNIVERSE, and SONIC probably some other good ones as well but ... don't buy this thing because if you want to play classic games you can play them on the Revolution. revolution is the way to go everyone if you're a classic gamer and did I mention revolution will allow players to download every Classic SEGA game as well? I know this for a fact.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Drift 2, Sonic Spinball, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Blast, Sonic Labyrinth, Phantasy Star, Phantasy Star Gaiden
Geez, that was easy.

I think Nintendo has a patent on that type of control on gaming systems. if an Ipod came out with that on the front (lol) Nintendo woulsn't say anything, the games are just a side feature for this.

it's just a MP3 player that happens to play some sega games, nothing to lose sleep over.
Mobile phones are taking over the role of PDAs, PSPs, GBAs and the kitchen sink.

#6 ... and GG Shinobi, Sensible Soccer, Bust-A-Move, Land of Illusion, NBA Jam, Lemmings, Lucky Dime Caper, and, at a push, Mortal Kombat 1 & 2?
