Blizzard to revamp WoW Battlegrounds
Gaming Steve — "the man with the game information" — has the scoop on Blizzard's plans to
dramatically enhance Battlegrounds, World of Warcraft's PvP mode. The first update, expected in patch 1.12 or
1.13, will effectively link 16 realms per Battleground server, in turn speeding up queues and opening up the playing
field for inter-realm action. But Steve reports that Battlegrounds will undergo its biggest makeover with the release of The Burning Crusade expansion. Players can look forward to features like worldwide rankings, tournaments, and ladders when the expansion drops later this year.

Georgie boy @ Apr 20th 2006 3:03PM
wassup with all the hype over this game? This doesn't compares to any of the good RPG games I've played for example, Oblivion, and Phantasy Star Online, Halo 2, Perfect Dark 0, and Call of Duty.
Elanz @ Apr 20th 2006 3:15PM
"good RPG games I've played" + "Halo 2, Perfect Dark 0, and Call of Duty" = lol
jake @ Apr 20th 2006 3:20PM
LOL @ #2!!! How is Halo 2 and PDZ and CoD RPG games?
World of Warcraft has over 5,000,000 subscribers for a reason. Try it out. It is head and shoulders above any MMO ever released.
dan @ Apr 20th 2006 3:31PM
its good. it lacks some char customization ie height, weight, age, but it makes up for it in gameplay. u have to try it before you say you don't like it. and how is call of duty, a great game, a role playing game?
A WoW Player @ Apr 20th 2006 3:37PM
I am a WoW addict, I agree with #4- WoW is definitely a game to play. It's also a game that sticks to your mind. All day.
JodyAnthony @ Apr 20th 2006 3:37PM
it's no ultima online.
LunarDuality @ Apr 20th 2006 3:41PM
@ jake
Where do you get your numbers?!?!?
WoW has *only* 6.5 million subscribers worldwide not 5 million.
Oh wait...
Georgie boy @ Apr 20th 2006 3:45PM
My friend told me Chinese people are poor, and so the only good thing they do is play WoW and that's how they earn money by selling their accounts to Americans.
is this true?
Georgie boy @ Apr 20th 2006 3:47PM
he also told me Jackie Chan, is the only richest chinese person in China
p-diddy @ Apr 20th 2006 4:55PM
Wow. Worldwide rankings. Improved PvP.
Sounds like stuff Guild Wars had a year ago. For free.
Flame on!!

It's popular because it's incredibly easy to solo your way to the highest level in a matter of months, which attracts all the 15 year olds with their parents' credit cards.
AC @ Apr 20th 2006 5:27PM
Wow thatd be real fun to get intra realm PvP going on :-D but i have this feeling that all of a sudden WoW will just fail like everyone will leave for no reason thats what all the other MMOs hope for at least :-D
Tripknotix @ Apr 20th 2006 5:29PM
Guild Wars? ... Worldwide Rankings?
... didnt that game only have 1 server (for its small cult of fans)...
i suppose that means that it does have world wide rankings.
PayTheMan @ Apr 20th 2006 5:30PM
No matter which MMO you play people will always pull the "kids with mom's credit card" routine.
Dave M. @ Apr 20th 2006 5:38PM
My only wish with Battlegrounds in WoW is to have a balanced fight. If there are 5 "twinked" players on one side, there should either be 5 "twinked" players on the other side, or 10 non-twinked players.
My experience with WoW's Battlegrounds is on side has 10 twinked players and the other has 7 non-twinked players, and the winner is... the side with the twinked players.
Not really very much fun when the twinked players are camped in your graveyard knocking off players as soon as they regenerate. Pretty darn annoying actually.

"...and opening up the playing field for inter-realm action."
Mmm..hot, hot inter-realm action.
Really, though, this is going to fix the queues, but break the whole thing with lag, as Blizzard has proven time and again that:
a) They have the shittiest server service team ever (well, not really a "team" per se so much as a gaggle of monkeys with wrenches, hopping up and down, slinging fecal matter this way and that, hoping they fix something.)
b) They buy the cheapest and therefore worst possible servers.
c) All of the above.
jessiel @ Apr 20th 2006 7:16PM
guild wars has world wide rankings?
wow, sounds like something diablo 2 was doing 5 years ago.
lpbrochu @ Apr 21st 2006 8:38AM
PayTheMan: Guild Wars is not only 1 server, it's great technology that doesn't limit you to a specific server! You can play with anyone anywhere in the world and the servers copies your character info over to a common "physical" server so you can play together.
And in this case worldwide ranking means that you just need to enter a PvP game and you can be matched against American, Korean, European, Japanese, etc...
lpbrochu @ Apr 21st 2006 8:41AM
I hope they add an observer mode (like Guild Wars) to watch these worldwide tournaments... that would be cool to watch!
blubb @ Apr 21st 2006 10:16AM
Yeah right, like Blizzard would ever think of an observer mode (which would be sweet)...Blizz is just too dumb to really make something "perfect" they add something to make the game better but then leave out some other thing which makes the whole thing go down the drain again...
Bakabon @ Jul 11th 2006 4:12PM
WoW is as crappy as they come, the character customization is poor, gameplay is crap and people still get addicted to this steaming pile of sh*t ( me included). The damn game gets boring after 1 month, which is kind of good so you don't have to pay anything extra if you decide to quit after that. The game's only a big rep grind -> F*cking boring. Occasional ganks, ninjas and OMGWTFPWNEDBBQ lag don't help the gaming experience at all.
