Sweet! So Tanner is a bisexual heroin junkie? I've seen Avery's work.

So a game is made from a film (http://imdb.com/title/tt0077474/) which is then made back into a film. Isn't this a bit redundant?

As long as they want to make video game movies, best they make them about games no one cares about. I mean, are the Driver fans gonna riot and say Avery ruined the vision of the game?

Even Uwe Boll doesn't do too much harm, picking franchises which are no big loss. Anyone cursing him for his treatment of Dungeon Siege, wasting the potential of such an awesome franchise?

Yeah... this doesn't sound too exciting. There are hundreds of generic movies/games like tihs.

Tom beat me to it. Too bad the movie was better than the games could ever hope to be. Excellent film.

For the record, Uwe Boll destroyed the Alone in the Dark movie, which I DID care about, thank you very much. I was hoping to see a big screen, Lovecraftian tale of horror and madness. Instead I got...Christian Slater. And Tara Reid. NAKED. FOR NO BLOODY REASON.

But I digress, I can honestly say niether I, nor anyone I know of, anxiously awaits every new Driver iteration. While the physics and, well, Driving are excellent, the rest of the game seems to suffer. This can be said of the franchise as a whole, mind you, and includes the 'story'.

You play (blank), a ____________,
a. Undercover cop
b. ex-con
c. man who was framed for a crime he didn't commit
d. two or more of the above
who must _____________,
a. clear his name
b. get revenge
c. make a clean getaway
d. all of the above
and along the way encounter ___________.
a. racial stereotypes
b. corrupt law enforcement officials
c. a pimp

That said, I anxiously await the Silent Hill movie, and if it's as good as I hope it is, not only will I begin attending church again, (taking it as a sign that yes, there IS a God.) but it will mean that after a decade or so of truly god awful movies, gamers will have gotten themselves a movie maker who can actually...MAKE MOVIES. If that's the case, who knows? Maybe this Driver movie will be a more interesting movie than a game.

Wait wait wait.

Driver is a video game version of every cop/driving/car chase movie out there, and now we're taking a translation of a translation and translating it BACK to the silver screen?

Wha?!?!

This is pointless. It would be like making a GTA movie. THIS ALREADY EXISTS, and it's where the game got its inspiration!

Avary is a hack. He hasn't done anything worthwhile since he worked on Pulp Fiction -- for which he still takes way more credit than he is due. Looks like he is trying to trun into the US version of Uwe Boll.

Okay I see that some of you seem to be a bit confused on the whole Driver Video Game series. Driver was made off the inspirational movie Gone in 60 Seconds. No not the one with Nicholas Cage, the original one with the Crash Car King. The creator wanted a game that felt like you were playing a hollywood car chase. Unlike many peoples thoughts of the game being a GTA clone, sorry, Driver was born first. Now you may say, "Driver didn't come out till 1999 where as GTA came out in 1998." What you missed was the PC release of Driver back in 1995. Not to mention they are both based off of two completely different ideas. One is Hollywood car chases while the other is the Godfather and Scarface the video game. Back to the idea of a movie for the game I have to say we did get a movie, Run the Gaunlet, which was a small lead up to the game Driv3r. Granted the games are not the best games with using cars, but nor was the movie that inspired Driver. However, remember that every stunt done in the original movie Gone in 60 Seconds was real, no CGI sceens here. Not to mention that again we are getting a fan of the series to work on it, so it will be good, hopefully. As far as Avary being a hack, the person making such a claim clearly missed out on some awesome movies done by Avary. Brotherhood of the Wolf was better than most Hollywood films and it's a French film, OUCH! Avary teamed up with Christophe Gans again to do the Silent Hill movie, which does the video games series credit. So, Avary does good work and just because he is not a money hungry dick head like David Hayter (X-Men Script writer), doesn't make Avary a hack, Avary takes his time to write the script and do all the reseach to make it worth watching. I am happy he is doing this movie. Now if we could only get him to work on the Castlevania and Metal Gear movies that are in the works.....
