pick me
spoo @ Apr 21st 2006 1:55AM
Just to fix a minor missprint the game is New Super Mario Bros. not Mario 64.
BTW I'm going to win XD
ElectricBrain @ Apr 21st 2006 1:58AM
Uh...no, read the god damn site yourself. It's Mario 64 DS.
thunder @ Apr 21st 2006 1:59AM
it say you win a ds lite and a copy of super mario bros not a ds and mario 64 make the change man
Probot @ Apr 21st 2006 2:03AM
ElectricBrain, lay off the childish, hostile attitude.
It says New Super Mario Bros. on the site, but it has a picture of Mario 64 DS. The offical rules say Mario Bros. DS, which I assume is New SMB.
ElectricBrain @ Apr 21st 2006 2:24AM
Sorry, was just a little flustered over finding out its US only and I live in Canada.
They are giving away a DS Lite, as well, not the DS phat.
naryamithrandir @ Apr 21st 2006 2:39AM
omg....
i am 17....the things i would do to be 18 at this very moment....waah...
interesting how they mentioned that the DS Lite is one of the prizes isnt it?..looks like its coming to our lands faster than expected! (lol)..
i wanna be 18!
David @ Apr 21st 2006 2:51AM
Ha
"Trip will take place between May 8, 2006 and May 10, 2006"
That would really really depress me to know that I have to leave the day E3 starts when I'm literally right next door to it...
David @ Apr 21st 2006 2:58AM
Oh and if you read the rest of it:
Prize will include the following: one (1) standard double occupancy (two persons, one room) hotel accommodations for three (3) days / two (2) nights, round-trip coach air transportation for two (2) people from the major airport nearest the winner's residence (as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion), ground transportation to/from airport to hotel, to/from hotel to the Kodak Theater (site of the Nintendo Media Briefing), Two Hundred US Dollars ($200) spending cash, one (1)Nintendo branded t-shirt, one (1) Nintendo DS Lite video game system and one (1) copy of Mario Bros. DS. (Approximate Retail Value: $4,000).
So 3 people are winning the trip and can bring 1 guest each, while the grandprize winner gets to play the thing. Excellent prizes sounds exciting!
Pal @ Apr 21st 2006 3:13AM
That's the day I leave for Japan, back home for the summer. Yeah, I'll wait for the Revolution :P
Kn1ves @ Apr 21st 2006 3:59AM
tihs is what sucks about living in LA, i dont get excited when they say 'all expense paid trip'. its like 5 blocks down the street :(
Scrabcake @ Apr 21st 2006 4:10AM
Joystiq is owned by AOL?
AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!
It's all so clear now...
(This is the part where I retroactively earn the two negative stars I got arbitrarily for thoughtful, innocuous previous comments)
Anand @ Apr 21st 2006 5:05AM
I wonder what would happen if a anti-Nintendo fanboy won this contest? Maybe they will purposely act as though the Rev remote is not working correctly?
Armin @ Apr 21st 2006 5:06AM
So this means Joystiq cannot look objectively on the Revolution as long as daddy AOL partners up with the Big N?
had2comment @ Apr 21st 2006 5:18AM
To #13:
AOL bought Weblogs, Inc. back in fall of 2005. Joystiq is a part of the Weblogs collection of blogs. Now even though AOL owns Weblogs, Weblogs still operates on its own. Otherwise we might have seen something like this:

JaSoN! @ Apr 21st 2006 5:57AM
crap. i'm from europe.
Vince -UK @ Apr 21st 2006 6:19AM
They should pick "tactics".
It was him who was picketing the GDC wasn't it?
jay @ Apr 21st 2006 6:32AM
I'd be slightly interested if the damn thing included Europe. Oh well. I have a tradition of staying up for Nintendo's speech no matter what time it's on at. the only point of the year I drink caffeine. Meh, next year I'm on a course that offers trips to E3. Paid of course. Just a shame this is THE E3 until the next Nintendo console.
C. Grant @ Apr 21st 2006 9:32AM
"15. So this means Joystiq cannot look objectively on the Revolution as long as daddy AOL partners up with the Big N?"
Exactly! We've been given explicit instructions from on high to never say anything negative about a company they may run a contest with in the future. That's why AOL bought Weblogs, Inc. Not because of the attraction to independent voices in the blogosphere... but because they wanted an outlet for propaganda!
Seriously though, we don't get editorial direction from AOL. They own a billion things, like planets and stuff. Sometimes it would be nice to exploit their muscle... get *our* hands on that revmote early. Droooooool. *cashes bonus check from AOL for pimping revmote*
Paul @ Apr 21st 2006 9:35AM
I think this shows a lot of confidence from Nintendo in the controller if they are willing to demo the controller from someone who has never used it before at their live press conference.
I am so entering and praying to win.
A guy who was my best friend in junior high school won a Nintendo Power contest once. Round trip to texas to see Mortal Kombat live stage show, and he said they treated him like a king the whole time. The main lady who handled his trip went on to voice Princess Peach in Mario 64.
Aaron @ Apr 21st 2006 10:06AM
I LIVE IN CANADA!... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, this is the second time i've been dissapointed/let down by nintendo, the other was when they released "mario is missing"
Neko Tsukimi @ Apr 21st 2006 10:28AM
Did you guys notice that the approximate retail value of playing the Rev first is $1000? The only difference between the prize packages is being the first to play and the approximate retail value of the bundle. This revolution must be amazing if just getting a minute to play with it is worth THAT much :D
Paul @ Apr 21st 2006 10:37AM
Well, that sucks. Doesn't Nintendo realise winners have to pay taxes on this stuff? They should bump down the retail value of winning.
bladestar @ Apr 21st 2006 10:52AM
I admire Nintendos marketing strategy! Everything is all about the controller, like if SONY or Microsoft can't come up with something that perhaps eliminates the use of controls (i.e. Microsoft new eye toy) and we play just by moving our entire body instead of just swinging a remote. What impresses me is that they managed to introduce a remote ($15) as the solution for all human problems. No body cares about the rev games or the console specs (the console can suck as long as the rev control is there). Everyone I know wants to buy a rev (including me) but never seen the rev in action. It amazes how companies are using words like "innovation" and "Next Generation" are able to move/manipulate/hypnotize the masses even without having any product to show just plastic prototypes even for years.
I will probably get a negative start for saying this. Now that I know that joystiq is owned by AOL which hates Microsoft since I dont know when. I am sure that any negative comment against Nintendo will result in negative starts. (Starts are the method used by joystiq to invalidate or to nullify anyones comments).
Jonn @ Apr 21st 2006 11:10AM
You're owned by AOL? But you're easy to unsubscribe from!
Neko Tsukimi @ Apr 21st 2006 11:25AM
Sure, they've only had the plastic prototype for a year, but no need to rush thing. I think it's more than the controller that's creating the hype for Nintendo. Possibly the biggest hype is the virtual console (since that's the only sure thing besides Red Steel and a few other mentioned games) and the revmote is to conversation piece that gets people interested in the revolution 'cos it's somthing different. It's what sets Nintendo apart from the others and makes people wonder "Hmm, how does this work."
Suhail @ Apr 21st 2006 11:30AM
NoE should run a contest like this aswell.
Tamo @ Apr 21st 2006 12:11PM
I just entered in. Seems like we'll know who the winner is by May 5th. Lucky for me my finals end before then XD.
Concerned Citizen @ Apr 21st 2006 1:43PM
Whos going to be the most hated guy in the world???
tactics @ Apr 21st 2006 3:19PM
YES LISTEN TO VINCE-UK!!! they should pick me!!! i've never won a god damned thing in my life though...
Joystiq: put in a good word for me!!
Pikachelsea @ Apr 21st 2006 4:13PM
"Maybe they will purposely act as though the Rev remote is not working correctly?"
You would have to be a COMPLETE douche to do that, after Nintendo flies you to E3 for free and gives you all that cool stuff and the opportunity of a lifetime (for a gamer, anyway).
