Final Fantasy VI on the GBA, my prayers have been answered...
twrex10 @ Apr 24th 2006 3:33PM
it's a good thing they aren't milking the final fantasy franchise for every penny they can get.
jayntampa @ Apr 24th 2006 3:33PM
Me, I'm all about Valkyrie Profile -- it's great that we're getting both.
Pikachelsea @ Apr 24th 2006 3:36PM
I can't wait for Final Fantasy VII Part 7: Yet Another Spin-Off Featuring Characters With An Inexplicable Rabid Following.
I swear... Square could sell turds on a stick if they slapped the "Final Fantasy" name on them.
Fuzz @ Apr 24th 2006 3:41PM
Pikachelsea:
Funny you should mention that. . I believe the Final Fantasy potion had a taste similar to turd.
White Rose Duelist @ Apr 24th 2006 3:41PM
FF6 was my favorite game ever, but after the way they butchered FF4A, I am more dreading the re-release than anything else.
fawazr @ Apr 24th 2006 3:42PM
Weird... the PSP gets an rpg with 2d sprites and the DS gets 3d battles? I'm also pretty underwhelmed by Square's 31 flavors of FF. I really do think Square could sell poo on a stick if it were named Final Fantasy. Just look at Kingdom Hearts.
FOX @ Apr 24th 2006 3:44PM
Wow...What a bunch of handheld and/or retro crap. I remeber when square had a little originality.
There last great game was Vagrant Story
jp007 @ Apr 24th 2006 3:50PM
White Rose Duelist:
How was FFIV advance butchered? I haven't played it yet, but from what I've read, it is supposed to be the best version. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
jeffx @ Apr 24th 2006 3:50PM
MISSING IN ACTION: Dragon Quest spinoff featuring young Yangus. BUT we're getting Valkyrie Profile 2, so I'm a happy camper!!!
JodyAnthony @ Apr 24th 2006 3:53PM
"Just look at Kingdom Hearts."
oh no you di'unt!
seriously, good series, IMO

spoo @ Apr 24th 2006 3:59PM
Wow not one title that is not a sequel or rehash. Squre give us some new series for gamers sake.
Jeff @ Apr 24th 2006 4:01PM
I believe the phrase "(Company name) could sell (slang word for excrement) on a stick if they named it '(game or console name)'" could probably work for about 85% of all the comments on Joystiq these days.
Let's just set up a simple script or something that auto-populates the comments so that most of you guys can save yourselves a bunch of needless work.
dvddesign @ Apr 24th 2006 4:09PM
Ah, you guys didn't cover the whole story...
Square also announced a LARP set. The Final Fantasy VII: Sephiroth's Ressurection is a Live Action Role Playing kit that will enable all fans of the Final Fantasy franchise to recreate all their favorite FFVII scenes whenever they want, whereever they want. Set consists of:
1 - 4 oz. Sephiroth poo
1 - 1 oz. bottle of Final Fantasy brand Adhesive
1 - stick (actual lenght varies)
1 - 10 oz. Liquid "Cloud"
captain_duck @ Apr 24th 2006 4:09PM
I guess "Dawn of Mana (PS2)" is the english name of Seiken Densetsu 4. Awesome, so that and Children of mana are confirmed for US atleast :D
valisol @ Apr 24th 2006 4:16PM
The only things I'm really looking forward to (as a DS owner) are Children of Mana and Final Fantasy V Advance and, if I end up getting any of them, I'd probably get FFV. Maybe FFVI, but I've never played that. FFV was the final Final Fantasy game I liked (other than FFT:A which I don't really count as part of the FF series), mainly because of the job system.
topher @ Apr 24th 2006 4:19PM
YES! VALKYRIE PROFILE 1 and 2!! i love you square-enix... since it seems like they're remaking all the final fantasy's... lets hope 7's rumors on ps3 are really true
Dusty @ Apr 24th 2006 4:30PM
I'm thrilled that Dragon Quest Slime MoriMori 2 is actually getting a domestic release. I guess DQ8 has improved the brand image enough to localize more titles. Long overdue.
White Rose Duelist @ Apr 24th 2006 4:35PM
The main problem with FF4A was that they slowed down the enemy's turn rate. More often than not, you won before the enemies got a turn. Between that and the requisite extra items in optional dungeons, the game is ridiculously easy.
Ninja Monkey Lover @ Apr 24th 2006 4:38PM
For all of you complaining about a lack of original content- they're most likely waiting until E3 to reveal any of that. Everybody has already heard of these games being prepared, so there's no reason to hide them, but I'm sure they'll talk about the new MMO for the PS3 and probably Mario Basketball 3 on 3 for the DS and other stuff that would also fall into the "tired sequels" department like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
So yeah, most of it has a familiar sound to it, but there are plenty of companies that put out good stuff as sequels all the time (I never hear much complaining about GTA or Gran Turismo, not that I should).
Sabre @ Apr 24th 2006 4:45PM
I've never actually played Valkyrie Profile on the PSOne...was it a good RPG? I'm still waiting for a good J-RPG to come to the PSP. I don't want to hear from someone who despises Square-Enix either...I want an honest opinion.
I can't wait for FF3 on the DS tho...the screenshots of the game look pretty impressive.
32_footsteps @ Apr 24th 2006 4:47PM
On FF4A...
Yeah, the significantly slowed clock speed in battle is absurd. A sufficiently quick gamer can get twice or three times as many turns compared to the computer than they can in any other version. This makes many fights way too easy.
In addition, there's a frequent bug that shows up that allows a character to act immediately after their previous action, which really makes the game way too easy.
That's not even getting into the absurdly overpowered weapons in the optional dungeon, which do obscene damage. It's actually possible to defeat the final boss in two hits, which is just absurd.
Yeah, it's still got a great story, and the translation is as good as ever. But the actual meat of the game is just dull. If FF5A and FF6A have the same problem, well, I'm just glad I have the Playstation versions.
Princess Zelda @ Apr 24th 2006 4:51PM
I don't mind Square re-releaseing their older games. I haven't played any Final Fantasy games yet and having them on the GBA/DS makes it easier for my to play through some of these lengthy games. I take my GBA and a good RPG with me when I take my kids to the park.
White Rose Duelist @ Apr 24th 2006 4:52PM
Valkyrie Profile is also among the best RPGs ever. If all they're doing to the PSP version is adding cut scenes, it's well worth whatever S-E is planning to charge for it.
Finch @ Apr 24th 2006 4:59PM
Huh, wonder why Crisis Core isnt on that list? Oh well, it does say "partial". I'd kill to hear about a new FFT for either next-gen consoles or the PSP.
Crazylink @ Apr 24th 2006 5:46PM
Dude we need FFCC 2 now.
B @ Apr 24th 2006 6:08PM
Still waiting on something from Chrono Trigger. Sure I like KH and FF,but how about something new from this franchise?
SeriousKriss @ Apr 24th 2006 8:39PM
@15 captain_duck : Actually wouldn't Legend of Mana be Seiken Densetsu 4? Dawn of Mana would be Seiken Densetsu 5 I guess.
@21 Sabre : Valkyrie Profile is one of the best RPGs ever made (and that's coming from a PC gamer). I highly recommend it, and I certainly hope it's sequel (well prequel) will live up to it.
Ayrkain @ Apr 24th 2006 8:41PM
Fans of the originals might prefer to play FF4/5/6 on the PSP with a SNES emulator. Low difficulty to set up, and the gameplay from the originals is preserved.
Sabre @ Apr 24th 2006 8:57PM
Damn...sounds like another game I'm going to have to find.
Damn you for telling me that! Damn you! LOL
Pikachelsea @ Apr 24th 2006 8:58PM
#13 - Which Joystiq are you reading? Not this one, apparently. Just eat your turds on a stick and be happy.
Lostzenfound @ Apr 24th 2006 9:52PM
Hmm ... I think this'll be the time when Square announces their Final Fantasy 7 remake. ... because you know it's coming.
Reeve @ Apr 25th 2006 8:55AM
...and there's no Front Mission 5, Front Mission Online, or Front Mission Mobile listed, anywhere.
I'm looking forward to many of the Squeenix titles being shown at E3, but the complete lack of FM makes me sad ;_;
captain_duck @ Apr 25th 2006 9:35AM
@28 SeriousKriss Noop, legend of mana was a gaiden, or well not a real numbered mana game, it came out in japan under the same name, legend of mana. Just like how Children of mana & Sword of mana are also not numbered mana's.
And well just check out the news or the mana site. Square is working on Seiken Densetsu 4, and not 5 :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_Of_Mana
ClaudeLv250 @ May 18th 2006 3:06AM
Dawn of mana = Seiken Densetsu 4, period.
Luscarion @ May 30th 2006 11:35PM
Just to clear a few things up w/ SD series. SD1 is now known as Final Fantasy Adventures, found on Gameboy. SD2 is known as Secret of Mana (SNES), SD3 was never released as a console title in America, but has a translated ROM out now. SD4 is Legend of Mana, the PS1 title. Dawn of Mana and Children of Mana are more than likely SD5 and SD6 respectively. Dawn of mana is NOT SD4. Any questions? No? Good!
