Sonic at launch? That'd be sweet, especially since it looks to be the best one yet. Personally though I'd say the only sure fires are Tekken, Untold Legends and Motorstorm.

I think the must have launch title for PS3 is UT 2007. Nothing else.

Sonic launching a Sony platform? That sort of makes my old-school 16-bit heart die, Sonic should be launching a Nintendo platform, not Sony.
And the fact that Resistance is developed by Insomniac should grab you. Expect this game to be breakout at E3.

Well in that case if i have the lucky to pick up one ps3 when it will released, i would choose:

Why would it make the 16bit part of you die if Sonic was originally a Sega game? Sonic has just as much right on a Sony platform as he does a Nintendo platform, if not more.
I agree with Armin though. UT2007 is a MUST HAVE at launch. I could walk away with only that one game and be satisfied until the crouds die down and more games come out.

I believe Strangehold is for both power platforms (aka PS3 and 360).

organic - it's that classic old enemies become strong allies. I don't know. I'm psyched to see the new Sonic, it just seems weird that it'll be one of the first PS3 titles I'll pick up... maybe even play through.
I guess that depends on which companies sends out the builds first though.

The dates next to the genre are the dates they were announced I am looking around trying to confirm which ones are up for launch

Does anyone know if Lair will be on any other system? For those that don't know what Lair is, it's basically, Super Smash Bros. with dragons, or maybe Mortal Kombat with dragons...
Either way it's a dragon fighting game.

Nothing in that list grabs or commands my attention. I will have to wait until after E3 to see if there is. I also will have to see what the price tag will be on it too. If it's too high, I will just wait and stick with the 360/RS line up. I don't think Sony will be able to convincingly, without-a-doubt, best the 360 in hardware performance to warrant an immediate purchase of their console. However, I will eventually purchase one just for the exclusives (as with the other consoles). But the 500 dollar price tag I paid for the 360 'Premium' Costco bundle at launch and with the hopefully, reasonably priced Nintendo (RS?), my wallet will be empty and my available free-time spent.

I believe Factor 5 said that Lair would be a PS3 exclusive just like Star Wars Rogue Leader Rogue Squadron 2 was only for Gamecube at its launch.
For all the PS3 gamers out there, Resistance is looking good, but I doubt nothing will compare to Gears of War.
Stranglehold and Rainbow Six should also be good. I'll get them for my 360 though. But a good game is a good game no matter what system it's for. Right?

Sorry to burst your bubble AC but if MGS 4 or Devil May Cry are launch titles then the xbox is gonna sell out in japan by the end of this month. I seriously doubt either will come out till Q1 '07. Now Gran Turismo... well lets just say they still haven't launched the psp version that was supposed to be a launch game.

That list is mostly from back when we were still under the assumption that the PS3 would launch this spring. Obviously it hasn't I'm guessing that titles like Fight Night Round 3 will never see the light of day on PS3, as EA will probably hold off for FNR4 instead.
I also don't see alot of the big name games like MGS4, DMC4, Vision GT being ready for launch. I'd say the above list that joystiq posted, with the addition of the usual iterations of sports title from EA/2K sports, and maybe one or two random first party titles like Warhawk or Ratchet and Clank to make the launch. The rest of those games will start pouring out in spring/winter of 2007.
I'm not touching UT2007 for the PS3. Based on past exerience, popular, fast paced PC oriented shooters like UT do not play well on consoles, and are much more enjoyed on a PC. But if sony enables USB mouse support in addition to USB keyboard support that barrier could be removed.
I also like that some cross-platform titles like Rainbow Six Vegas, Sonic, and Stranglehold are on the list too. That'll make for some quick comparisons to the visuals of the 360.

@ dsub thanks ... I wasnt declaring that those were definate launch titles i just wanted some clarity on those :-) I know gran turismo probably wont come out till late 07 or even 08 i never believe their release dates they have always been pushed back and their inital features stripped so im not excited about gran turismo... thanks again for clearing that up

That's the '4th Console' (kind of like the '12th man on a football team) I keep forgetting about. The PC. I just upgraded my PC so I could play games like FEAR and Oblivion (which I have for 360). I upgraded my PC because my PC at the time did not even meet the specs for BF2! But now that I'm up to 6800XT and a few gigs of RAM, I'm good for a few more months! Ha-ha!
So anyway, between the 360, Revo(RS) and my PC, I don't think I will have enough fundage to apply to the PS3 unless its price is slashed and I someone how find enough time to play all the systems I have now. Working full-time and having a semi-social life will make it hard for me to own all consoles this gen. If I do, it will only be for 'bragging rights'. So yeah, my gaming platforms of choice will be 360, PC, DS and Revo(RS) until the PS3 becomes more affordable and they come out with some awesome games OR that it is so powerful that I can go back in time like Ken said. Maybe Ken will even give out discounts to surgeons to do cybernetic eye implants so we can see the 120+(?) fps that it can do too. ;)

I feel you james. PS2 ultimately caused the demise of Sega in the hardware sector. Seeing Sonic launch on a Sony console is like watching Luke fight side by side with Vader instead of against him. UT 2007 may be THE title to get for the PS3 this year but it kinda sucks that it's a port and not an orignal IP.

Lair is very appealing to me, as is Resistance: Fall of Man...Motorstorm still appeals to me. If these are out by the time PS3 shows up...I'm a happy camper--I don't need hundreds of games at lineup, just a few really good ones...(Stranglehold will just suck--Max Payne Woo style..I mean seriously does anyone expect this to be a killer ap?)
Although, like everyone else, I'd be more excited about MGS4,UT 2007, and Vision GT.
And even though a FF7 remake is just a vicious rumor designed to screw with me...I would kill A LOT of people to get that game (figuratively speaking Mr. Jack Thompson, only kidding there buddy, pull back the video game hate for a sec).

Hmm...I dunno about that. Sega had been shooting themselves in the foot for years (32X, Sega CD, Game Gear, Nomad, Saturn, horrible marketing for the Dreamcast.) Sony didn't have to do very much to kill of Sega's future with console hardware.

I hope they make Tekken somewhat exciting i enjoyed beating all of my friends at it but with 50 gb of space for the game at least add something to keep the game going on for more than one week ... to me tekken has always been a rental game... i get bored of it after the first 1-3 days

Most of those games are on the 360 as well, and some on the revolution, so who cares, and most of the people who want a ps3 wont be able to afford it, so I just don't see how the ps3 will be a viable choice, especially in europe where they will be paying upwords of 600-700 US for the system as has been confirmed. Who in there right mind would pay that, other then a spoiled brat or a complete @sshole? Unless sony bankrupts itself with losses to make teh console 399, they have completely lost there minds.

this has been explained so many times, the development costs are cheaper for sony because most of the technology in the ps3 is made and developed by sony themselves unlike the 360... Once again the price stateside will decrease as well... euros=dollars is not the same ... 600-700 euros would be like 400-600 dollars (sorry im not exactly sure on the exact currency difference/exchange) ... if you think its too expensive then dont buy it ... easy as that and i dont think it was fair of you to call people who are able to buy it ass holes OR brats, first off some people work yes, they WORK that means they make money ... with the money they make from working they can afford a PS3, does that make a working man/woman an asshole/brat? no I dont think so... I am sorry to get on you about it, but that was way out of line...

If this is the launch lineup (with the usual sports titles added) then I 'll definitely be satified when the ps3 lands. I'd be happy at launch with Lair, Resistance, and maybe a Madden 07 or NBA Live 07. Bring on MGS4 and RE5!

Most of the technology in the PS3 was not developed by Sony. Sony is playing the role of a parts integrator.
Cell Chip? IBM.
Graphics hardware? Nvidia.
Blu-Ray? Industry consortium.
Memory? Nope.
Need I go on?
Regardless, development costs are inconsequential -- you can make that up over the console's lifetime. More important are production costs. That's a hit you take on each unit you manufacture.

Motorstorm, Lair, and UT2007 will be the best titles.
Everything else will be bad.
Rainbow has always been a Xbox title, and will be best on Xbox 360/Xbox Live.
I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that PS3 Network wont be available at launch, so Rainbow will rule on Xbox 360.
Sonic will be fun, but not a killer app; heck, only exclusives are killer apps anyway.
If F1 makes it, that could be good, but as mentioned, no online will disappoint.
And finally, as everyone has mentioned, PS3 will cost $500+, far above the price an average consumer is willing to pay.
Most people arent willing to spend $399 on Xbox 360, so anything more is suicide.

If it isnt ready for launch then how do you think they are gonna implement it into all those already sold ps3s? I think their network service HAS to be ready for launch or its gonna be useless and extremely costy to launch it after the launch.
Um rainbow has been a cross platform title for a very long time and im pretty sure the first rainbow was on PC... then it spread to consoles like the n64,dreamcast and playstation 1... always been an xbox title? maybe the first current gen console to receive it, (xbox got it first then ps2+gc)

On a side note, everyone's pointed out your flaws in the whole sony made all the parts crap, also, europe is a big market, and no one will pay what it costs there, it will tank, and it will sell less then half of what ps2 did in america. People will see the same console plus one pointless feature for $300 more and pass, it's simple buisness. Sony has been shooting themselves in the foot for years now, in all of there buisness practices, and this will be the nail in the coffin, the losses they take on every console will cause them to file bankruptcy if blu-ray isnt a huge success, which it wont be, because it costs at least 800-1000 to start collecting bd movies, and a player, and that one player and one movie 1030 if you get sony's own player.

I am totally psyched about a new Tekken at launch (even though I haven't really heard or seen anything about it yet).
Sonic always felt like a fit on Sony for me, not only because Sega and Nintendo were "enemies", but because the general "feel" of the PS2 fits with the general "feel" of Sonic (Speed, lots of blue, slick; at least, before they went and added 1500 new characters).
