They could call it the Nintendo Vulva and I'd still buy it because it looks like a hell of a system.

The crazy thing is. I belive Nintendo wants gamers to hate the name, and complain about it to non-gamers who will be interested in it because we aren't. Especially if the games come out targeting them. They'll be like "This is the system for us. Let my son/significant other have his PC or PS3/XBOX."

Thank you Nintendo, I believe I just helped your cause here.

They say the name is unique, but that is not the problem, the problem is that it's badd despite of being unique. Kodak is a unique name but good at the same time, it sounds pretty much the same in every language.

They chose a short name to make it easier to write, speak, find in google, etc. For example you may try several searches as: Play Station, playstation, PS3, etc, or XBox360, Xbox 360, X360 ([s]frequently[/s] sometimes used in forums) The problem is that the short words are often used in other languages or remind something, at least an onomatopoeia.

Wii in spanish (at least for me) reminds me the sound a child would do when it is in a swing and is pushed, like "wiiiiiii", and if he laughs could be "wiiijijijijiiii", curious because of the dots. So the name is ridiculous and kiddy in Spanish IMO.

To 44:

No, the WII has no grounds for a lawsuit, even discounting the absence of a trademark for the Wii. Why? Because one is an abbreviation and one is a word.

"W.I.I" does not equal "Wii". See, WWF? THAT was an abbreviation, not a word pronounced "Wuwuf". So, there's no need for Nintendo to fear any lawsuits... although... I'm not sure if we should be explaining this point to them... Maybe it'll increase the chances of changing it.

And there will be proof of a trademark in a few days, like the 1st of may, I'm guessing. It doesn't matter, though, really. After only two days of this name being known, I'm reaching the point where I'm no longer ashamed to say it in public, like I was. xD. I used to just say "Revolution", even though I knew it was wrong.

Good one groze, I think the same. I'm from Mexico, and despite the strange new name, i asked a few friends, most of them girls, and they said they liked, because here when you say "Wiiiiiiiiii" is like when you're happy or having fun, so it's not big deal in non-english countries, WE DON'T UNDERSTAND YOUR WII JOKES. Personally it was a shock when i read it, buy now i think is a good name

The name 'Wii' symbolizes one aspect of games: the learning of life skills for children playing together; with lip service or vague overtones suggesting a sleek modern device, which presumably, as a 20 something consumer, I can't resist. I'm tired of lipservice. Of all the driving passions of a revolution, consumerism doesn't even appear on the list. I'm tired of the game industry misrepresenting or misunderstanding the concerns of the large demographic of adult gamers. We want to play and develop games that explore the issues in our adult lives. When I read the name Wii I feel foolish. I feel that nintendo is mocking me when it is, in fact, time for the adult gaming public to mock the frivilous themes and ideas redolent in games targeted to them.

The Wii's games are very cartoony... I think the name is very appropriate.
