My talent? Dressing up as Mario!

We're not entirely sure that dressing up as Mario and reenacting the entire first level (World 1-1) of NES classic (and frat boy retro-favorite) Super Mario Bros. constitutes a "talent" in the traditional sense. Perhaps the singular artistic vision of one of these Gordon College students makes up the talent portion. Either that or the part where Mario pulls off his red overalls--male-stripper style--to reveal his white flower-power overalls underneath is the real talent.
Check out the embedded video after the break.

That was cool i hope he won.

I really wish I would have thought of that.

HILARIOUS!! And Classic!!
Hahahahahahaha!!
A nice touch would be to have some strobe lighting to simulate the rainbow effect of Starman power but that was a pretty cool performance.
Did Nintendo know what impact they would have on the culture by making these iconic games?

Most hopeful thing for us gaming geeks?
The number of women you can hear cheering in the background! I know it sounds kinda silly to point that out, especially out of context - but it's a good sign that perhaps gaming won't prevent procreation as much as it has in the past. ;)

Don't do drugs kids.
Please.
That's all.
Draco @ Apr 28th 2006 2:01PM
Sorry to pop your bubble Morgon, but the cheering from the ladies is due to the simplistic nature of the game, if anything gaming now is worse for us geeks then in the past :P now anytime you buy a game there are half naked girls in em, and I dont know about you but my gf gives me [scratch]funny[/scratch]sad looks when im playing outlaw golf :P
(what I play it for the actual golf!)
what we need now are more Mario party games and lots of em!

Actually, the reason you hear women cheering is because (at least when I was a student there three years ago) over 2/3 of the students are women.
Also he couldn't have won (its part of our Golden Goose talent show) because its by class. So only his class (fresh/soph/junior/senior) could have won. Also there were three other guys from his class who would have had to do skits/talents. So theres would have to been good as well for his class to win.

"The number of women you can hear cheering in the background!"
Absolutely! The exact same thought occured to me. I really don't know what the complexity of the game or the proportion of women has to do with anything (that is PC version of "you are a loon"). Watch it again, they are not just yelling they are cheering at the appropriate points. The exact same time I was saying, "Yah! The pipe! I remember that!" they would be cheering.
Very, very intersting. Seriously. I would LOVE a psych or sociological reaction as to why women "don't like videogames" yet they are just as excited about a stupid frat boy in a goofy custume with rediculous props acting out a silly game that was 20 years old...almost as exited as this hopeless nerd...almost...

Thats the kind of impact that only Mario have, I guess we will never see a reenacting of Halo or Metal Gear Solid...
Smatt @ Apr 29th 2006 4:54AM
You mean except for the Halo movie already anounced.
Goober @ Apr 30th 2006 10:11PM
No, I think he meant reenacted as in unpaid college kids putting on a show like this for the fun of it - not overpaid, terrible actors making a multi million dollar production about a space marine shooting aliens (how original) just to make a ton of money they dont need in the first place.

That was excellent! I'd like to see level 1-2 next.
suso @ May 4th 2006 10:36PM
In the end, it doesn't matter whether you got the girls or won the contest, because you made millions of people laugh their asses off.
Thank you.

It was an excellent reenactment of the first level of the game. I thought the guy playing as Mario was very good and it would be nice to get to see who he and the other guys are who put it on. Actually, I understand why the girls were screaming because he is probably a sexy guy..but of course everyone was screaming because it was cool.
