Nintendo press briefing ticket scan
Nintendo's press briefing on Tuesday morning, May 9th is sure to be interesting, mostly because the company has promised to unveil major new information about Wii.
They've done something different this year. The company's controlling access to the conference via color-coded tickets. Those with a green ticket will sit in a certain zone, and those with other-color tickets will sit elsewhere. Is there any significance to the color-coding or to the word associated with a given color? Those of you who'll be attending, what color is your ticket, and what does it say in the silver box in the middle of it?
Hyrule, huh? Maybe we'll be fed more details about how the newest iteration of Nintendo's Zelda franchise
will utilize as-yet undisclosed functionality of Wii.

Looks like Peer from IGN got red (Mushroom Kingdom).
Simon @ Apr 29th 2006 6:12PM
Heh, that's pretty cool actually. Wonder what they're up to. Any new information about Zelda = good. I bought a 'Cube pretty much because of that one game.
MSaccarello @ Apr 29th 2006 6:12PM
i can't wait for TP!
Eric @ Apr 29th 2006 6:34PM
you guys will probably be sitting in the balcony... hehe j/k
GoNintendo.com has a Blue ticket with "Yoshi's Island"
http://gonintendo.com/?p=2318
If IGN got RED they must be sitting Front and Center at the event.
Sonic_13 @ Apr 29th 2006 6:52PM
Thats awesome.
I heard that they were dividing up the theater into different sections based on areas in different games. Pretty cool.
Dan @ Apr 29th 2006 6:56PM
Seems like someone from the ign boards awhile back knew about this and so much more. A full story can be found here:

(they also go on to talk about nintendo's online plans)

The most vocal and aggressive invites will be way in the back in the nosebleed section, like Joystiq. lol! Just teasing!
Steverz @ Apr 29th 2006 7:30PM
I've got a red ticket with Mushroom Kingdom on it as well.
Great idea to have assigned seating this year (and in the Kodak Theater no less.) With all due respect to the Nintendo fansites, EB Games employees and the like, it sucked having to fight a thousand hyperactive Nintendorks just to get a decent seat at the thing, especially in earlier years when a lot of press were coming straight from Sony's briefing and ending up at the back of the pack. Hopefully this section will be close enough to see Reggie's expression the first time he says "Nintendo Wii" in front of an audience.
jay @ Apr 29th 2006 7:30PM
The ticket names refer to the Wii's most revolutionary feature; a massive launch line up containing all the mentioned games.
How do I know this? random guessing. we'll see I suppose. I do love these sort of mysteries. Doctor Who, Lost, Nintendo and Apple etc.
dan @ Apr 29th 2006 7:33PM
mabye itll be like game projections of those places like hyrule, mushroom kingdom etc over the seats or w.e

RE: that IGN insider post and the spawning thread:
Just think for a second.
Conventional games CANNOT be played in the ways you guys are mentioning.
But conventional games are being developed for the Wii.
And, if this was true, every developer would have needed to have known about it for months, to simply come up with designs, and no way could thousands of people not leak this over months.
Lastly, this would put Nintendo entirely out of the TV based console business. It would leave conventional gaming in the hands of Microsoft and Sony. If this concept were to fail, Nintendo would have no offering. Nintendo would not do this. They are smart enough to keep their backup. They kept the GBA alive when the DS launched in case the DS failed. They kept the Gameboy alive during the Virtual Boy launch in case that failed.
Nintendo would not release something this out of the box without having a backup plan.

I would say they could do something very very interesting.

Maybe the locations have something to do with this video, it circulated a long time ago.

I was at Nintendo's E3 Briefing last year and yeah, it was a disaster. I didn't get an invite for this year. The site I write for isn't very big, and it's in the lowest tax bracket. I doubt they're doing sign-ups on sight again this year, are they? Anybody know? Doesn't seem like it with the assigned seating and all. I'll have to watch from the hotel room :(
Sabre @ Apr 29th 2006 9:41PM
Whoever got that ticket doesn't deserve it :-P
"Maybe the locations have something to do with this video, it circulated a long time ago."
No it doesn't...that was just something Nintendo had in their enclosed area for Zelda last year. I took a video of it as well when I went last year.
Brandon @ Apr 29th 2006 10:03PM
Well theres three differnet tickets, red for mushroom kingdom, green hyrule, and blue yoshi's island, are there any others? And i would specualte that whoever is in that section, gets to play a demo of the game that there ticket is from.
Hoomamooma @ Apr 29th 2006 10:21PM
That video with the floor that reacts to the poeple isn't very special. A local movie theater that isn't in a big city or anything (suburbs of Milwaukee) has a floor just like that where you can kick around a little soccer ball and other mini games like that
brother phil @ Apr 29th 2006 10:40PM
thank you joystiq.
thank you for a news bulletin that doesn't contain any wii puns. i was about to give up on you guys. hopefully your immaturity will rest in peace.
that guy @ Apr 30th 2006 12:54AM
You took the words right out of my mouth phil. Thank GOD there were no stupid, ridiculous puns regarding Wii in this post. Hopefully most people have it out of their systems now. I don't mind the name of the system; I HATE the puns attached to it. And that's not Nintendo's fault. It's the fault of every wannabe comedian and immature gamer that posted the same four plays-on-words a thousand times on every message board.
Wow, rant over.
Can't wait to see what Nintendo has planned for E3 :P
S. Kelsey Hill @ Apr 30th 2006 1:21AM
i WILL BE ATTENDING, AND MY TICKET IS BLUE, WITH YOSHI'S ILAND, IN THE SIVER SECTION...BUT THE QUESTION IS STILL. WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?
Anonymous Coward @ Apr 30th 2006 2:44AM
I'm going to throw my hat in the ring and say that not only are the tickets related to seating sections, but they relate to the Nintendo's online offering in some way.
In much the same way Xbox Live has general and more specific areas, so will Nintendo's. Mushroom Kingdom will be the general area, Yoshi's Island perhaps the "kiddy" area? Hyrule for more chatting, or adults?
Total speculation of course, but Nintendo's got these fantastic IPs that they can leverage with their online service so why the hell not use them?
Ryan Maule @ Apr 30th 2006 2:47AM
I have a yellow ticket, with "Wario Land" -- I'm based out of Toronto -- perhaps your location of residence determines the seating arrangements?
Not sure....
Alex @ Apr 30th 2006 3:07AM
Hmm... I don't think this means all too much. I was at CES (www.cesweb.org) and for some big show (the Monster Cable Awards show) they had color coded tickets. Maybe Nintendo decided to use an actual events crowd-control company.
Basically it was just sections. VIP had a certain color, and in the room you'd progress upwards (like, nearer the stage) with colors. I had a press one, I think it was yellow, I don't know. They had seperate doors (red VIP in here, yellow/green in here, etc.). It's just a crowd control measure that conference companies have been using a lot recently.
As for the names... You can speculate but it probably is just something to throw down. Maybe just maybe there will be something per each section, but it's just a name related to the color. Make the tickets a little "interesting". I don't think it is anymore... Don't read too into it.

The comment below is from this article and it does some good analyzing...

I think it's quite simple to see what the poster is talking about if you take the post as fact and put it together with the other facts.
1. "Think hard about the controller and what type of graphical presentation would suit it best!"
The CPU and GPU being called Hollywood and Broadway, plus the fact the controller is like a remote hints at the idea the visual side to the revolution will be like a movie/game. This will also make more people open to the idea since many aren't intimidated by something that appears to be like a movie.
2. Use the right side of your brain!
Use the right side of your brain... creative side, artistic side, perhaps something 3-D. As something 3-D could possibly happen I'm leaning toward more of the user being able to create some of their own things. I don't exactly know what that means, but it would allow one to be imaginative and creative.
3. "Such a sneaky little box!"
Perhaps here this is referring to the box under the blue lit disc tray on the Revolution/Wii that has been somewhat of a mystery so far. "Sneaky" in the fact that it hasn't caught many people's attention. This will probably be part of the revolutionary presentation.
4. "Wi-Fi will open doors you never would have predicted."
Because of what is stated here and right below it I'll have to say the person was referring to the Virtual Console Dowload Nintendo has already announced. With a couple of the first-party titles for free download bundled with the system and third-party titles downloadable in groups. It also talks like as each month comes by you'll get a free download with others downloadable for 99cents a game.
5. Credibility of the Post?
Well, the thing with the ticket and the reference to the kodak theater=mushroom kingdom gives it a very little bit, but the mention of this line...
"Indeed a revolution, but in code name only. Its 1985 all over again"
It shows that the person knew the name would change when he/she said "but in code name only". The other thing that gives it much more credibility is the fact that the virtual console download came to pass after they said it shows alot. So I would say the person either got EXTREMELY lucky or the poster is legit. And then again I don't believe in luck
Whatever it is you can be sure it will be something that catches the "movie" audience and its something fun yet simple that many people will want to get in on and not feel intimidated by it. I believe though it'll be something that merges this game audience with the movie audience. Only time will tell...

I got an orange ticket that says Onett in the small silver area. Promising?
James Sorensen @ Apr 30th 2006 9:11AM
Since when are passes to an event news??? theres usually different style passes for the event as well...
Oh well 1 week left till fly out for e3, cant wait
AJ @ Apr 30th 2006 9:38AM
This doesn't really have to do with the story but I'll ask anyway. How can the Kodak Theater fit E3? It was where the Oscars and Daytime Emmys were held and I see now way E3 can fit, unless there is A LOT more to it then the actual theater part.
awa64 @ Apr 30th 2006 10:37AM
#28: The Kodak Theater is for the pre-show Nintendo press conference on the 9th, where the Revolution will be unveiled.
E3 is still at the usual location. Nobody's trying to cram EVERYTHING into the Kodak.
James Sorensen @ Apr 30th 2006 10:45AM
28 - its just the location for the conference meeting, sony's will be at sony pictures studio...
e3 is still at the convention center
the special press events are usually elsewhere in CA
Freezair @ Apr 30th 2006 6:40PM
Maybe we're just overanalyzing. It could just be a seating arrangement "Nintendified" by adding the names of stuff associated with that color to the ticket. Link wears green, ergo, the green ticket is Hyrule... just a thought.
sheik124 @ Apr 30th 2006 9:19PM
#32 might have a point, it sounds exactly like parking at Disney World or something. Mickey, Donald, etc...
Revolution 4 Ever @ May 1st 2006 2:58AM
They should have a Wii section... oh wait thats in the bathroom.
Fish @ May 1st 2006 1:03PM
I agree with the idea of organized seating "Nintendofied".
What they should do, to build up suspense and excitement, is name all the seating "Zebes". That way, at the end of the press conference the lights turn red and start flashing, and on the main screen it says "3 minutes until self destruction". Reggie will just watch as a theater full of people rush out of the building before it explodes for no discernable reason.
