"The PSP is only 200"

Yes and no.

Sure it is $200 BUT if I am not mistaken that is WITHOUT a memory stick and a couple other things. By the time you add in taxes and the memory stick you will be paying around $250 or more.

Heh, Joystiq's late to the party on this one!
I submitted this to Evil Avatar after listening to the webcast way back on Saturday!

Could this news have found its way to Joystiq thanks in part to my post on Evil Avatar? I'm so proud...

I don't think Nintendo wants the DS and the DS lite to coexist for very long. This isn't like the GBA SP and Game Boy micro, where it's easy to see why someone would want the SP. I don't think many people will want the original DS, and I don't think Nintendo will want to keep it around very long, either. Do you think that they'll want the ugly DS around when they launch the Wii?

If the DS lite doesn't launch at $129, it'll launch with a small premium ($149).

I managed to obtain a blue DS lite via eBay for about $210. For me, the cost was justified by the overall quality of the machine and the potential for playing the available and potential library of Nintendo games. Before this, I owned neither DS nor PSP, and I purchased in anticipation of getting one for each of my 2 kids (so they can enjoy the wireless connectivity). There is no way I would pay anything near the "rumored" price of $200, despite how well the DS is designed. I expect prices to be in line with Japanese prices. Remember that items sold in Japan are always subject to higher overhead costs compared to virtually anywhere else in the world. Since these items are made in China, I see no advantage for Nintendo to price at such an inflated value.

If the DS lite comes out at $200 I think I would rather buy a psp (Loco Roco looks awesome) or more likely a "fat" DS for $100, as that is a great deal. If the lite is $150 or less,I will definently buy it.

It's almost certain that DS Lite will be priced between $150 - $180. Though I'd definitely pay $200+ for it. I payed a lot more for my PSP and that's just been a glorified picture viewer. The DS is just that fun; I think it's worth it.

It won't be $200. Importers jack up their prices, and even they're charging $200.

Sorry, but there's just no damn way.

That's ridiculous, there is no way Nintendo is gonna price the DS Lite at the same price as the original DS. If they do that, there'd be no reason for anyone to get the original DS. They're gonna have at least a 20 or 30 dollar difference between the two versions. I can see it being around $179, but it's doubtful. All of you saying I won't pay more than blah blah, who are you kidding? It doesn't matter if you won't pay. Someone else will. You know when it gets released we're gonna see shortages of it, because everyone and their mom is gonna want one.

So those of you saying I'm not gonna pay more than 150 for it or yadda yadda aren't really gonna matter. Because you'll be the ones stuck twiddling your thumbs while everyone around you has a DS Lite. Nintendo knows what they're doing, and we're just here for the ride. We'll see what happens and prepare for the mad rush for a Lite when it gets released.

I see it coming in at $179; a small price premium now for those that really want it. It will then go down to $149 around the end of summer. I'm gonna pick one up, along with a copy of New Super Mario. Can't wait.

Once again Nintendo milk the cow dry. If they release for $199 they are just been plain greedy. PSP is expensive for a reason, its packing an incredible amount and still making a loss. The DS lite cant be that much to manufacture. They are just gonna do what Sony did with the PS2 when they released the smaller version. Cash in on the hype. Seems like the new trend. People should have sense I hope and Boycot Nintendo if this happens.

It's not going to be $199 officially.

The only people charging $199 will be the independent game shops that can raise prices as shortages hit all the other stores. You'll see them on EBay for $200+ as well. But you wont see Walmart or Target selling them for more than retail (~$150).

video games alone are pretty much just a waste of time and anyone willing to pay 200 dollars just for a lame DS either has waaay too much money or needs to have their head examined.

@ himm:

If they are a waste of time then why are you posting on a VIDEO GAME blog? I'm sure there plenty of "lame" things you have bought that are a "waste of time."
