Poll results: Waiting for E3

Thanks to all that voted on last week's E3 poll. A whopping 74% are most excited for Nintendo unveilings at this year's E3. That's expected from the company with the highest number unknowns going into the event. But after renaming their next-gen console Wii, what else will Nintendo do?
Only one week to go!

There really needs to be a post-Wii-announcement poll regarding E3 excitement.
Beeves @ May 1st 2006 6:15PM
Woah, Nintendo's gettin' some love from the Joystiqers, eh? That is, when it was called Revolution. But anyway, I did vote for Nintendo and impatiently wait for what they're going to reveal next week.
The Guy Next Door @ May 1st 2006 6:18PM
NINTENDO RULES!!!
Clay @ May 1st 2006 6:26PM
Partly due to the huge amount of online Nintendo fanboys.
Personally, I'm more interested in PS3 and 360.
Sabre @ May 1st 2006 6:32PM
Well DUH!
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
jay @ May 1st 2006 6:33PM
I said it before I'll say it again. Nintendo already owns this E3. It's theirs for their evil bidding. Just as MS and Sony had it last year with their whoring out information in order to get a bit of love. But Nintendo played it smart. Just as they're going to do with the console "war", instead of competing against MS and Sony before with games and graphics and specs, they played it smart and this E3 there is NO competition. Aye? aye.
Hopefully they'll announce the demise of their GBA, or something big. Like the next GB? Some more DS announcements, games and accessories. Of course the Wii is going to utterly dominate E3. There will be accessible Wii demo stands which frankly, are going to have mind bogglingly long queues.
No offence to Sony, but this is what happens when you spill out too much info. People just stop caring. Evidently. A chunk of reporter friends have been told 1 thing; get as much on the Rev/Wii as they can.
theboy @ May 1st 2006 6:37PM
Excitement for the Wii really dwindling because of the name change? Man, gamers are more retarded and hopeless than I ever could have imagined.
jay @ May 1st 2006 6:43PM
Hah, interesting. I've had my stars reset to 0. Just as I thought the fanboys were raving and crazy, it seems the disease has spread to admins too. Was it because of my rational stance against the repeated "wii" jokes? hmm. Simply gold. Not only has Wii been a bad publicity stunt for Nintendo but it spreads to the media who publish the information too.
jay @ May 1st 2006 6:44PM
Remind me to never question our overlords again. Oh, masters.
Jesse Pentecost @ May 1st 2006 6:48PM
poor sony :(
calthaer @ May 1st 2006 6:54PM
I concur with djork - my vote would likewise have been different had I known that Nintendo's line-up would be marred by a distinct yellow stain.
vc @ May 1st 2006 6:55PM
With 10 writers on staff, Jay, your stars will ebb and flow. Consistently good commenters will tend to take two steps forward and one back, while consistently bad commenters will tend to take one step forward and two back.
Over time, the cream rises to the top. Don't sweat it.
K-Balls @ May 1st 2006 7:00PM
Gee, Nintendo fanboys have the most time to waste on online polls. Who knew?
JPRacer @ May 1st 2006 7:03PM
Some people would have vote differently after the name change?
Come on, you buy a product for what it's capable of, not for it's name. Wii is a stupid name, I don't like it, but if the system deliver I'll buy one for sure.
I can't wait to hold the Wiimote in my hand.
SilverSurfer @ May 1st 2006 7:29PM
Those results are to be expected but I would really like to know what the hell those 175 people who selected Other are looking forward to.
Kevin @ May 1st 2006 7:35PM
Great. Nintendo has hype... I'm part of it.
But now i want to see some delivery.
Ian @ May 1st 2006 7:45PM
Well that wasn't obvious, we already know whats going on with MS and Sony.
elmer @ May 1st 2006 7:48PM
Microsoft tend to let slip every piece of information they can more than Sony do. I understand a title like Gears of War getting flagship billing, but why is it we already know so much about Too Human, Huxley, Mass Effect, Viva Piniata etc? Some of these should be secrets for counteracting reliable unknowns from their competitors. I'm sure Microsoft have one or two gifts left in the closet, but Christmas is coming and they're looking stingy.
This should go down as one of the most exciting E3s in history, but Microsoft's part of headline grabbing will be small and this poll reflects that. Heck, even if they announced a portable system, it'll be a suprise to almost no one attending.
Matt @ May 1st 2006 8:02PM
While I have no interest in Nintendo, they are the only company that deserves the title of "Next Generation".

i feel your pain... i also used to have 2 stars, until a simple comment that was sensible, intelligent, and rational was apparently construed as sexist. or something..
either way, my point is that i believe the star system is a bit too loose. just because one blogger at joystiq disagrees with or feels condescended to by a comment doesn't mean that said comment was an example of bad joystiq citizenship or the like. it just means that said commenter has (*gasp*) a differing opinion from what seems to be popular.
(note: i'm not saying that joystiq bloggers are careless or unfair with the star system or that any of them necessarily have bad judgement.. i simply think the system is used too loosely at times.)
Sabre @ May 1st 2006 9:01PM
Why did I get a negative star?
My response was a general remark to the fact that just about every poll that has been done has shown that fans are most excited about Nintendo's offering. In no way was it an attack on any of the editors (or any other person posting on Joystiq.)
...and my other post on the Gizmondo guy was geared towards the Detective that took forever to come to the conclusion that Dietrich wasn't a real person.
Talking about jumping to conclusions...geez.

"While I have no interest in Nintendo, they are the only company that deserves the title of "Next Generation"."
Can you back it up? What is "Next Gen" about Wii? Is it the remote controller? I can play games on my Dish satalite using a remote. The only thing Nintendo did is add censor and gyroscope technology to a remote.
Is it the funny name? Looking at the spec of Wii from what IGN posted, it doesn't look next gen, it's 2x the NGC. Nintendo isn't going the HD route. So what's it that make it Next Gen? Sure it might offer a new type of gameplay, but it could also be a disaster. Playing old roms isn't innovative. So what's really Next Gen about Wii?
Sabre @ May 1st 2006 9:54PM
So what's "next gen" about the PS3 and 360?
Your argument is as flawed as his b/c neither of you can really define "next gen" is.
jay @ May 1st 2006 10:03PM
Whuh
"Looking at the spec of Wii from what IGN posted, it doesn't look next gen, it's 2x the NGC."
That rumour was quashed a long time ago, stay up to date. The Red Steel screenshots displayed clear Direct X 10 style features - DoF, bloom/HDR, soft shadows. Which puts it up there alongside PS3 and 360 in SD resolutions.
Whats next gen about the Wii? The interactivity. Which, as a gamer (not a Sim player, interactive movie player etc) excites me the most. Next gen is the feel of a game being more than a few twiddely buttons on a controller. It's about motion, about feeling one step closer to being in a fantasy world that Shigsy and his team make. It's not a next step like Sony and MS, it's not same old same old with better graphics in a higher resolution, it's new = next gen.
Downloadable retro games aside. which serves as only the starters to the meal. something that can be avoided altogether if need be.
But to me, next gen is interactivity. It's not everyone's vision though. And I can respect that, so long as you don't jump into fanboy "everything must be HD" mode.

The sleeping giant has awoken after being asleep for 10 years. Those who have opposed Nintendo in the past will perish. I, for one, welcome our new overlords.

12. "Gee, Nintendo fanboys have the most time to waste on online polls. Who knew? "
Even I voted for Nintendo, as I am intrigued in what will come about in the future. But that doesn't mean I don't want to find out about new info/games for my 360!
14. "But don't go around saying that! That's like carrying a Koran on an airplane!"
I wouldn't be afraid to carry a Qur'an onto an airplane...
bladestar @ May 1st 2006 10:43PM
I feel sorry for all the fan boys Nintendo and Sonys out there.... They are putting all their hope and dreams, love life, and future in the hands of Nintendo and Sony... even if 50% of all the things everyone is expecting them to deliver most would be a disappointment, I hope we dont start seem people on the news hanging themselves when they actually get to play games in these consoles, and they dont get half of what they were lead to believe. I honestly hope Sony and Nintendo make it, at the end is good for the non-fanatic gamer and the people that choose a console for the games and not for the brand. I'm buying a wii because I know it will have some games the other consoles will not have, but it will not have some games that PS3 and 360 will have so it's a different monster (Smart move from Nintendo), but PS3 better have a better XBOX-live like service and a lot more games than the 360 and stop trying to sell their stupid blue-ray to people. I'm glad that E3 is here; we will finally see Nintendo's and Sony's goods unless they continue leaving us in the dark.....
Whuh? @ May 1st 2006 11:26PM
"So what's "next gen" about the PS3 and 360?

I didn't mention PS3 or 360 was next gen. I just hate how people call a system a next gen without giving detail as if one was better than other when all three have flaws. Also, Jay, what kinda interaction are you talking about that's not in the other two consoles? Is Nintendo gonna have a bigger push in the MP world?
theLoneYoshi @ May 2nd 2006 1:03AM
This is just my view on the term "Next-Gen" but to me, next gen means exactly that: the next generation of systems. It's like how you are the next generation of your parents, and your kids are the generation after you. It's not a perfect analogy, but I think its a valid one. I see the all of the 360, Wii, and PS3 as next generation. They are all successors to their respective consoles in the PS2/Cube/Xbox generation. Plus I think that they can all be considered as "next-gen" because they all offer something that the previous console didn't provide. Wii has its controller, and the 360 and PS3 has its HD graphics and the new HD media and other stuff. To me, they're all next-gen, just like how it should be for all of you video game players.
Ste Dyer @ May 2nd 2006 4:56AM
When does E3 start proper then? Does anyone (Mr Editor) have a schedule of the key events??
jay @ May 2nd 2006 7:38AM
"Also, Jay, what kinda interaction are you talking about that's not in the other two consoles? Is Nintendo gonna have a bigger push in the MP world?"
Well the free online play thing interests me the most. I already play broadband, I don't want to be tied down to a subscription to play games online too (I don't play MMO's). Interaction as in that controller. Some of my coursemates back in college last year had an idea to try their own "Revolution" by using a gyration mouse and modify some Quake 3 coding. I mean it wasn't perfect but it was jolly good fun. The next step was to get a VR helmet and see where that took us, but VR wasn't as good as what we hoped XD.
I've had a taste of what the Wii can do with its controller, and with what the DS has shown us. Before the DS I thought a FPS handheld game would be a waste of time. And I've never enjoyed dual analogue FPS games. not that I'm an FPS whore but HL2 and Metroid Prime are legendary.
Pip @ May 2nd 2006 9:32AM
Next Gen is a system that is doing something entirely different, and isn't afraid to take 5 steps forward in the gaming industry without stagnating.
So far only the Wii is attempting to do this. 360 and PS3 are just more graphics, which really isn't Next Gen in the slightest. All Sony and MS have done this time around is come a little bit closer to PC gaming, while Nintendo is offering an entirely unique experience not available anywhere else, and a whole new control system not used before.
Shiro @ May 2nd 2006 2:29PM
In response to the question asking when E3 starts:
The last I heard, the overall convention was starting on May 17. (Heheh, E3 goes right through my birthday. I hope they announce something cool on the 18th. =D )
I think it ends on the 21st... MAYBE 22nd. But I'm not as sure on that one.
And as for Nintendo's shows? I don't know if anyone knows but them and the coordinators right now. However, I've heard the channel G4 is gonna have live TV feed from E3, at all the major booths. I'm seriously stoked for that, I'll tell you that much.
Marc @ May 2nd 2006 4:04PM
I'm still holding out for Nintendo and their Revolution.
(No, you can't make me say that name! I'm sticking with Revolution till, i get bored with it and try to get used to that new name.)
now for my catchphrase!
VIVA LA REVOLUTION!
Jed Merrill @ May 3rd 2006 2:15PM
Who else were we supposed to vote for? Sony? MS? Ha! Nintendo is the only company bringing anything innovative to the show.
I am soooooo looking forward to hearing more about the Paper Shredder 3... Whatever.
