IGN has conducted a survey that tries to characterize certain consumers who enjoy one console over another. From the article: "The undecided gamers [no bias towards one console] like role playing games as their preferred genre, people loyal to the Xbox 360 brand like listening to Nirvana and gamers interested in the Wii watch Smallville. The survey also showed that the majority of people prefer the PSP as their handheld of choice."
Just a guess, but I think it's the games that sway a gamer toward one console over another (considering that we're all adults here). But when I was young I took a personality job test that said I would be a blogger, so these things are usually right on the money.
