Diablo 3 at E3, hints IGN ad [update 1]

It doesn't take keen eyes to spot "Diablo 3" listed among the games, brands, and personalities that IGN is using to entice readers to sign up for the site's Insider service. The ad's tag line — "E3 2006: Get Inside" — suggests that Diablo 3 is among the items that will be featured at this year's event. There are three clear explanations: someone's made a mistake; IGN is using false advertising; or Blizzard is going to unveil Diablo 3 at E3.

The "mysterious content" is a 404 html page without the extension. Go to blizzard.com/whatever

the download that happens is nothing. If you open the file in notepad it's just HTML code for a Document Not Found page. Super exciting.

yeah, if you download the file and add a ".html" to the end, you get the 404 page.

For whatever reason (metadata?) my iBook running Camino for a browser decided that the extensionless file was actually a Microsoft Excel file, so I opened it there first and saw it with Excel's absurd html rendering.

Blizzard is looking to hire a game designer to work with the developers of Diablo I and Diablo II. This could very much be Diablo III.

anyone get the ign news letter today that had a misguided refference to shenmue 3? perhaps these are all feck ups due to the maddness run up to e3, or perhaps those murdock teet sucklers have some info that they are giving subtle hints at. Heres hopign its the later, though its probably the former.

search ign for shenmue, click on shenmueIII and then theres a story about the "play" concert thing... same as in the email... has a link titled shenmueIII that leads to the play article :/

I rarely got all hot and bothered about "maybe's", but Diablo Trey would be a good reason. I also saw the Blizzard hire notices, and at the time it also gave rise to speculation about Diablo III. Diablo I, II and the exspansion remain one of my alltime favorite games. Having Blizzard resurrect the series would bring a smile to my face indeed.

Yes, Blizzard is working on Diablo 3. That's a given. Earlier this year, they were doing preliminary artwork for the game. Will we see something at E3? Possibly a teaser trailer, but don't expect more. Is IGN mistaken to post this ad? Whatever makes them money, I guess...

If blizzard is working on Diablo III then i would prefer they dont announce it until they are working on their finishing touches or atleast over estimate the release date by a good year or two.

Er, Blizzard North was quite a bit further along than preliminary artwork. They'd been working on the fucker for a couple years. Are you saying after the closure of Blizz North, they actually scrapped all that and returned to the concept art stage? Ouch.

Don't hold your breath on Starcraft 2...they are working on it but you won't be seeing any screenshots for a loooong time.

I doubt Diablo 3 will be showcased at E3, or atleast from Blizzard. Because the people who made D2 LEFT Blizzard and started their company called Flagship who are working on Hellgate London.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Blizzard to try to make a rip off Diablo 3 as I think they have the rights but not the minds.
