LEGO Star Wars II out with OT DVDs Sept 12
LEGO Star Wars II: The Original
Trilogy will be out this fall when it releases with the unaltered original trilogy DVDs on September 12th.Sure, the limited-edition double dipping on the theatrical version of the films may rile movie collectors, but fans do want Han shooting first on their Star Wars DVDs. (The "theatrical" release will only be available until December 31st.)
The simultaneous release of game and film on DVD follows in the tradition of the Star Wars Battlefront games releasing alongside the special-edition release of the original trilogy as well as the retail launch of Episode III. The special-edition versions will also be included on each two-disc set.

First Post! w00t!
Also I can't wait for this game, loved the first one, absolutely brilliantly fun. Anyways, man I can't wait.

I was going to send this in as a tip a few hours ago, but thought the Lego Star Wars 2 thing was already addressed. And I didn't think the OT DVDs were video games. I can't wait until the OT DVDs come out (I sent this tip in to numerous sites over a year ago). It will be cool for nostalgia, but I think a lot of the diehards will realize that -- with exception made for Greedo shooting first and the horrible new dance sequence in Jedi -- the Special Editions are better. I own the OT on laserdisc, and it looks really dated.
As far as gaming is concerned, I can't wait for the next Lego Star Wars! The first game was a blast, and the only thing I really hope is improved is the length of the game. Give us at least 15 hours of gameplay, this time. The 5 or 6 hours it took to beat the original just didn't cut it. Still, it was an incredibly fun game. Especially with a few beers and a few more friends playing along!

I loved the first one and this one will probably be even better.
Even more exciting is this is the first I'm hearing of the original original trilogy going for sale anywhere other than ebay.

Great Game, Amazingly fun

Slightly off-topic: Welcome back, Dan! Haven't seen you around in a while. I've always liked your posts. :-)
jaemz @ May 4th 2006 5:14PM
I hope they include the scene on Hoth where 3P0 rips off the warning sign on a door. Behind the door is where the rebels trapped a few Wampas... much to the surprise of a stormtrooper, I am sure.
Han did shoot first.

"...I didn't think the OT DVDs were video games."
Nah, they aren't, Sloopydrew; sorry if my post somehow gave that impression!

Oh, and much appreciated, Sd. It's good to be back. =)

I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say this but...
I never really had THAT much of a problem with the 1997 re-release of the original trilogy. Hell...I think people who bitch and whine about the new trilogy are just that...whinners. Ep.1 wasn't THAT bad but it was dumbed down too much, Ep.2 was way better and Ep.3 kicked some major a$$!!!
Oh and this game is going to be awesome...the first was just fantastic.
Pickypants @ May 4th 2006 6:17PM
Hold your tongue Sabre.
Greedo shooting first I can swallow (barely), but the new trilogy is an absolute Hollywood abortion.
Sabre @ May 4th 2006 7:17PM
Like I said...whinners.
:-P
Alkaiser @ May 4th 2006 7:26PM
"Whinners"? Are they the people who don't use drugs?
"Whiners".
I share Sabre's disdain for the new "collector's super uber LE edition release". It's like Lucas is stringing along a junkie.
This is how the discs should have been released in the first place, as a collector's set, but no. You got a collector's set that wasn't the full collection. Lame.
Just wait until 2008, when they release these things on a double-sided Blu-Ray. One for Original, the other side for Extra Edited. Of course, those will only be sold for a limited time, and then will never, ever be offered again, until another format comes out.
As far as Lego Star Wars 2 goes. I hope it addresses some of the weaknesses of the first. I especially didn't like the way everyone did the exact same amount of damage. I don't mind that it's easy (it's supposed to be for kids after all) but, maybe some better unlockables than ships parked outside the diner might be a good idea.
Sabre @ May 4th 2006 7:37PM
Whinners...whiners...you got the point. :-P
For the new game, I'm sure they will change some things up a bit. They probably didn't realize how popular the game would be with Star Wars fans (ie the non-kid audience.) Just from the trailer alone it looks like they took that into account. *crosses fingers*
Oh and a uber edition for Blu-Ray (or HD-DVD...whoever wins) like you described would be just awesome. I would so buy that.

"I share Sabre's disdain for the new "collector's super uber LE edition release". It's like Lucas is stringing along a junkie."
I love the idea, considering that I wasn't dumb enough to buy DVD releases of films altered into things I didn't like.
Do you people always buy stuff you don't like, then complain about it? Or is it just limited to video games and sci-fi media?
Sabre @ May 4th 2006 9:41PM
Ummm...I never said I had a problem with any of the DVDs so I dunno what you're talking about.

I sent a tip to Joystiq weeks ago about LEGO Batman being in production, but they didn't respond. For those wondering, production of LEGO Batman is now finished. It's only a matter of time till it's released!

Maybe the reason why they didn't post it was b/c a "friend of a friend of a friend" said something. There is no way to back it up.
Robert @ May 5th 2006 7:09AM
Somebody really needs to recreate the original trilogy shot for shot with the art from the lego games. That would be awesome. Also, I'm just hoping they release the unedited version of Thumb Wars alongside the OT. That was both a joke and a plug for Thumb Wars. It's really awful, but makes me laugh every time.
Levi @ May 5th 2006 11:16AM
To #15: It would make more sense for EA to make a LEGO Harry Potter game. I didn't know that they make Batman LEGOS.
