Xbox 360 spotted on South Park ... with 4 wired controllers?
Microsoft's Xbox
360 made its South Park debut last night. In one scene (seen here), Stan, Kyle, Butters, and
Kenny are all using wired controllers. What up with that?Could this be a hint? Is Microsoft planning a major Xbox 360 announcement at E3? A revelation that would trump anything that Nintendo or Sony could whip out? A new Xbox 360 model with four — yes, four! — USB ports?
Consider this ... what if Microsoft has already played out wireless? Heck, for that matter, what if the next-gen forerunner has already played out the entire HD era (notice the standard def hookup)? Is the next turn for Microsoft ... the retro era? A mess of tangled wires ... a pile of dusty cartridges ... 2D-pixelated Halo? C'mon, admit it, that would better than any of this Wiimote propaganda or those fourth dimension rumors we've been hearing from the other guys.
... Okay, we're just being silly — we'll stop. So did anyone else catch the South Park episode last night?

If you plug a USB hub in you can use 4 wired pads. Noobs :P.

Worst.......news post......ever.

Slow day for news I see.

Didnt see the episode, but the pic reminds me of the episode when they get the Okama Games Sphere with towlie, good episode.
rudimentalist @ May 5th 2006 12:54PM
anyone know any good video game news blogs?
SLy @ May 5th 2006 12:56PM
WTF have you been smoking?
epobirs @ May 5th 2006 12:58PM
It was no surprise that spoiled rotten Cartman has a 360 but I would have expected the others to have something Chinpokomon compatible.
Speaking of USB hubs, anyone else ever notice the silly company that marketed a PS2 USB hub? As if there was a burgeoning market of PS2 owners with more than two USB devices plugged in and no clue to the existence of generic USB hubs. As compared to the, ah, somewhat larger number of PS2s that could have dead USB ports and their owners would never notice. A lot of potential but it barely saw use beyond the EyeToy. Which is more than can be said for the 1394 ports.
vikinghead @ May 5th 2006 12:59PM
It debuted Wednesday night, not last night.
riCKY @ May 5th 2006 1:00PM
Why is everybody complaining about this? I saw the episode and thought the inclusion of the 360 was great. Also, notice where it says: "... Okay, we're just being silly" This is a blog, not a news site.
Ryan @ May 5th 2006 1:02PM
I remember when Joystiq had actual news posted. Morons.
Paul Taylor @ May 5th 2006 1:02PM
Blogging =
1.) Noticing an occurence with tenuous relevance to some kind of contemporaneous topic.
2.) Extrapolating nonsensical implications for that topic from the occurence.
3.) Posting the resulting mind-porridge in sentences which start "Could this be..." and "Consider this..." on the internet, then sitting around in your pants all day watching Sealab.
It's ok, we're all guilty. Every single one of us who has ever blogged has done exactly this - pants and Sealab optional.
And the only thing worse than a blogger is a commenter.
All Hail Lord Doctorow.
seifer @ May 5th 2006 1:02PM
Or maybe Trey Parker and Matt Stone aren't that familiar with a 360 and mistakenly had four controllers plugged in or they just needed a way to have all four boys playing at once. >_>
iloveMS @ May 5th 2006 1:03PM
i like joystiq but whats with all the xbox bashing?? I know the ps3 will be good, not cg good, but good nonetheless. But the xbox WILL be able to match it. As far as the (wii) i could care less. I will be getting a ds lite but thats it. I would like to go on record before E3 and say that the (wii) will flop!!!!!
Prof-KOS @ May 5th 2006 1:04PM
ah hahaha, epobirs. I almost forgot about that. That business decision has to go down as one of the worst gaming related ventures, right next to Gizmondo and N-Gage.
Mesoian @ May 5th 2006 1:04PM
Best episode of south park ever though. A really great episode standing out from a swarth of long chain of crappy ones.
ishtar @ May 5th 2006 1:08PM
Or maybe they play so often that they just keep the controller chargers all the time..
Obvious @ May 5th 2006 1:10PM
OH... MY... GOD!!!
WE HAVE TO GET TO THE COMMUNITY CENTER!!! THE 360'S POWER SUPPLY IS CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING!!! WE'LL BE DEAD BY MORNING!!!

south park was fucking hysterical last night, great show
Fuzz @ May 5th 2006 1:12PM
Well . . it's no Okama Gamesphere . . .
Does the episode have towlie in it?
Grindstone @ May 5th 2006 1:12PM
Ryan, you are the moron for not remembering that Joystiq is a friggin' BLOG! You want the news, go to CNN!
If joystiq wanted to draw a parallel showing the similarities to Ransom-Wiley's recent dookie to the Nintendo Wiimote, they could (no offense to Wii-nies, I know my roots). Would it be news? No, but then, they are not bounded to provide us with only news. Would you rather have no posts on a slow news day or something to bitch about in the interim? The latter seems to suit you all just fine.
As for the subject at hand, cool. South Park and the 360, a nice, funny match.
Ozyman666 @ May 5th 2006 1:17PM

#1: It's a cartoon show
#2: It's an internet blogsite
#3: You are tools.
Mike @ May 5th 2006 1:33PM
i'm so sick of this.. "waaaaaaaaaa this is old news!!" "waaaaaaaa this is a stupid post!" "why is this news??"
this is a blog. a VIDEO GAME blog. not CNN.
why are people still confused on this? i consider this to be an entertainment site. sometimes, there is news, and it is entertaining. Joystiq is under no obligation (to me) to be a cutting-edge news source.
if you don't like the post, then move on.. don't read it, why bother commenting?
that said, i saw the south park last night and thought it was great to see the 360. i don't have one so i didn't know it didn't have 4 usb ports - i guess i figured they were using wired controllers and standard AV connections cause parents bought it and didn't want to spend the $ or didn't know any better, etc.
(whose house were they playing the 360 at? i didn't get that)
BlogBuster @ May 5th 2006 1:35PM
Grindstone,
Weblogs is a company. Ransom-Wiley works for them, so no dookie talk unless you have a spare room for him to stay.
haha @ May 5th 2006 1:38PM
They get PAID to post stuff. SO THEY HAVE NO CHOICE.
Putting nonsense on the other hand...
jabbertrack @ May 5th 2006 1:48PM
You guys are being so aggressive dominant right now...
PSSSSST
C. Grant @ May 5th 2006 1:51PM
How is this nonsense?
You guys want news, go to Gamespot news, or IGN News. Really, "so and so released a new screenshot! ZOMG!" We could care less.
We post about anything video game related! A Sonic tattoo on a fat guys ass? News? No, but I'll post that!
A painting of Master Chief? News? Nope.
Next person to seriously write slow news day is getting deleted. We don't need to hear it. Why waste your (apparently) invaluable time to even write it, post it, then approve it?
*sticks head in oven*
Grindstone @ May 5th 2006 1:52PM
BlogBuster, you just ruined a potentially good story with your information. Ah well, it was just an example, albeit a bad one apparently.
And no, as a matter-of-fact, if my wife keeps up with the contractions today, that spare room will be filled very, very shortly.
C. Grant @ May 5th 2006 1:52PM
Thanks to anyone trying to stick up for us. It's appreciated, even if the trolls don't read it.

Did anyone notice the TV Cartman was using said "FONY" on it, an obvious jab at Sony. I think Matt and Trey are voicing their support for the 360! I love it!
I am the Dog Whisperer!
mandarin @ May 5th 2006 2:03PM
South park has been stagnating for awhile...But that was one of their better episodes.
I sure miss Chef though.
apoc06 @ May 5th 2006 2:05PM
actually the hilarious thing is there are "legit" knockoff sony products called 'FONY'. great inside joke inside an inside joke.
TMoney @ May 5th 2006 2:08PM
I don't think Trey and Matt really dislike Sony. They write fony on many electronics that are in the episodes through the years, but they also devoted almost an entire episode to the psp. They go with whats the hot item at the moment. They have also done this with the sega dreamcast.
Jouten Za @ May 5th 2006 2:09PM
Even tho I have a 'negative' rating, I even know that Joystiq is a blog (web log) and not a news or magazine site! I agree with CG, I think most people who flame don't often actually 'read' other comments made by more informed people =P
TMoney @ May 5th 2006 2:12PM
SOUTH PARK HAS BEEN STAGNATING!!!!?????!!!
Have you watched any recent episodes? This has been one of the funniest and most controversial seasons. I admit the Oprah episode was garbage, but Chef returns, scientology, and cartoon wars were great.
Don Jose @ May 5th 2006 2:13PM
first off, the 4D propaganda, is just that...propaganda. Sony's PR/marketing dept. is only slightly less skilled than Nintendo's, which, in turn, is barely shy of the U.S. republican party.
*leaves space for small-minded haters*
Seriously, if you believe the Sony hype, I'd like to sell you some psychedelic red rope licorice. If you believe the Nintendo hype, I'd like to sell you 10 dogs and 5 Slim Jims ("no, seriously, if you wave it in front of their face, it's fun!")
The 360 is here, it's fun, and I have about 1,000,000 (minimum) people willing to back me up on this. The rest is shrouded in, "but, wait, we can't do anything like that for at least a year!"
If you're a hater, flame on!
If you rock the 360 and think I'm (at least somewhat) wise, send a friend request: Gamertag: QueHondaGuero.
BOOYAA!!!
Kris Aubuchon @ May 5th 2006 2:18PM
This technically qualifies as gaming news anyway, even though the whole thing is in jest. It's just a pop culture add-on. Haha, it would bother me a little if they paid enough attention to not have 4 wired controllers - I mean it's South Park - it was originally made of construction paper.

"I would like to go on record before E3 and say that the (wii) will flop!!!!!"
Just so you know, I have a folder full of joystiq screengrabs of just this kind of statement. Expect me to post them all after E3. Unless of course the Wii is a flop, then count on me conveniently forgetting.
TC @ May 5th 2006 2:35PM
I love the fact some people slate a news story for pointlessness but actually bother to type a comment on the fact! Jeez! I always envisage the comic book guy from the Simpsons acting as the blog police. If you don't think the post is interesting, don't read it and wait for the next article!
Chris Grant shouldn't talk about my tattoos without seeking my permission first tho.

Here's the thing that I believe is pissing people off about Ransom-Wiley's posts: While a blog is in no way required to post news only, and is welcome to post humorous pieces whenever it's bloggers please, this post (and many other "humorous" posts JRW & Christopher Grant - now that guy's a moron!) is not well written, clever nor funny. It's groan-inducing at best. There are no redeeming qualities about this post. Whether Joystiq is obligated to post news only or not, news and speculation about videogames are the main reasons why people read the posts. If they to add some humor to the site well that's fine, but make sure that it's funny before posting it!
I'm sure Joysitq makes a certain amount of effort to ensure that their news posts are of a certain standard: That's why we see updates on posts whenever it's revealed that the info was correct, or has changed. How about updating this post to make it even remotely funny? Why not update it with a pic of Ransom-Wiley, so we can have at least one good laugh?
Mal F4cti0n @ May 5th 2006 3:12PM
GF and I saw it Wednesday. We work in the same office, so I was talking to someone else by her desk, ignoring her and pinching her neck when she tried to talk to me and saying, "just ignore it". It didn't go over very well, but I was ROFLMAO. It was worth the bruises I got when she pinched the f*ck out of me.
Yeah, why not put another USB port in to make it take four controllers without having to buy a hub?
Thought it was cool that they were playing monopoly too.
Why not post the Monopoly news? That is a game, right? Maybe you can enflame even more neanderthals with a post about a board "game". People like that is why "I hate people".
thegrey @ May 5th 2006 3:15PM
One of them wasn't plugged in. duhhh.
slybri @ May 5th 2006 3:18PM
Cartman had an xbox360. The other four were at another house playing another system with white gamepads, not necessarily another xbox360. Perhaps they were playing on a PS1.
And if you thing Trey and Matt are Xbox fanboys and purposely attacking Sony, there was a whole episode centered around Kenny and his PSP and they did not say anything negative about Sony. In fact they had angels in heaven battling demons from hell on a Holy Golden PSP, a lot like the rumored plot of Diablo 3.
This is stupid anyways. Its just a cartoon. But hey, it's friday.
James @ May 5th 2006 3:32PM
I don't know if its a case of product placement, or prop departments being fanboys... but on a lot of typical televisions shows (not cartoons) that either features comedy or children, the game system of choice always seems to be a Nintendo 64.
The N64 was even on "Two and a Half Men" this season.

Judd Goldenberg @ May 5th 2006 3:43PM
Both Slybri and Seifer are right. The four boys weren't necesarily playing the 360, we just saw four controllers. And even if they were playing an Xbox 360, chances are Matt and Trey aren't as hardcore videogamers to know that a 360 needs a USB Hub to have four players. Despite as much as we'd like them to be.
