Metal Gear Solid 4 -- final logo

After leaping over a fence, running frantically from security guards and dodging an intricate series of traps, the Joystiq team infiltrated the hallowed walls that house E3. Mysterious barriers and surly men barred us from progressing much farther, but we were able to sneakily snap some pictures of the banners and signs hanging about. Hovering over the Konami booth was this Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots logo, which demonstrates a departure from the previous design and a strange obsession with upside-down sevens. With Kojima having his hands on this title, we can only assume that there's a deeper meaning to be found here.
Our guess: Snake will be battling an elite and mostly psychotic team of soldiers called the Seven Deadly Sims. They'll be post-modern virtual entities meant to illustrate how life has become a neo-classical pastiche and how technology is....yeah. We have no idea what it means. Expect Kojima to reveal the truth at the Konami press conference on Tuesday.

I don't think those are upside-down sevens. I think they just made the L's match the 4. (if you compare them, they are the exact same just without the little verticle line that the 4 has)

WOW (no i am not being sarcastic i do love MG
that much that a sign gets me excited)
new*allusion @ May 7th 2006 9:31PM
Maybe its because (provided the PSP one which is in the works is released sooner) this will be the 7th full Metal Gear title.
* Metal Gear
* Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
* Metal Gear Solid
* Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
* Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
* Untitled Metal Gear Solid 3.5 (PlayStation Portable, 2007)
* Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PlayStation 3, 2007)
It'll probably have some deeper significance anyway though knowing Kojima.
Good spot guys!
snake @ May 7th 2006 9:47PM
or maby it show the patriots ability to alter
information like the ability to change how L looks............. or its to match the 4s
Kazi @ May 7th 2006 9:50PM
Is it that they don't consiter Ac!d and Ac!d 2 full games, new*allusion?
Angus @ May 7th 2006 9:53PM
Damn I can't wait for E3, and I'm not even gonna be there...
Elias @ May 7th 2006 9:59PM
Maybe, they did the 4 that way to match the L's. It's ok, just take a minute with it Tim, you'll get it.

"Our guess: Snake will be battling an elite and mostly psychotic team of soldiers called the Seven Deadly Sims. They'll be post-modern virtual entities meant to illustrate how life has become a neo-classical pastiche and how technology is"
Yeah...... and my mum said I had an over active imagination!
Tom @ May 7th 2006 10:31PM
We have to wait until Tuesday to find out what font Kojima used (raises gun to temple, then lowers it down once he notices it's just an empty bottle of Bawls)!?!?!
Jarrett @ May 7th 2006 11:08PM
I don't like it (the logo I mean). I've been into MG and MGS since the get go but this logo is a bit off to me. But whatever floats your wii-little boat.

[Insert Brad Pitt/Morgan Freeman/Kevin Spacey joke here.]

4our times the un4athomable meta4hysical 4innagling.
Foppe @ May 8th 2006 2:28AM
1. Metal Gear
2. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
3. metal Gear Solid
4. Metal Gear: Ghost Babel
5. Metal Gear Solid 2
6. Metal Gear Solid 3
7. Metal Gear Solid 4
The deeper meaning is that we will battle seven clones of Big Boss.
Zero_ @ May 8th 2006 2:45AM
That logo is vastly inferior than the older ones. It struggles to blend the high tech-i-ness of Metal Gear Solid and the 'classy' presentation of Metal Gear Solid 2. I dont' know... it's weird. There is probably some other deeper meaner though.
Could be a beta logo.
Zero_ @ May 8th 2006 3:04AM
Also, just reading through. Metal Gear: Ghost Babel is not a game that is canon, therefore not being a '7th'. If it is included in the number of Metal Gear titles, then so should the NES version of Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge, which Kojima loathes to no end.
"snake" does raise a cool point regarding the Patriots' ability to alter what we percieve as reality (Going back to MGS2), so maybe. By the way, when is Konami's press conference?
Foppe @ May 8th 2006 3:42AM
The reason I included Ghost babel and not the NES version of Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge is simply the fact that Hideo DID work on Ghost Babel. And it exist no "official" game to replace Ghost babel with, which is the case in Snake Revenge.
But if I just go by "Hideo worked on it", I could as well include the Ac!d titles...
Winnie_Tee @ May 8th 2006 4:28AM
Well MGS fans who remember way back, Kojima did mention that the original idea for MGS2 was that it would be called MGS3 with Raiden as the main character, fcuking with people's heads and causing them to say "MGS3?!?! WTF ?! What happened to MGS2?! Did I just wake up from a 3 year coma??"
Maybe Kojima's trying to mess with us again...
new*allusion @ May 8th 2006 5:22AM
Kazi-
No, apparantly they do not consider the Acid series as part of the MGS series. They are side stories/spinoffs... well at least that's how Wikipedia sees it. Like Snake's Revenge (NES) and Ghost of Babel (Game Boy) these games don't specifically add to, or follow the story arc of the series.

The invitation, which arrived in GameSpot editors' mailboxes today, has a gray front with the Kojima Productions logo in the background. In the foreground are six words in all-caps: "RETURN," "REARM," "REGALE," "REBIRTH," "RESPECT," "REFINE." In each of the words, the letters "RE" are conspicuously offset in red. On the back is an even less subtle hint. "The REVOLT begins, Tuesday, May 9. It's the battle for E3," reads the card before giving the details of the event.

sorry my teacher in uni said that back in 2003 and i didnt verify it :(
Quack_er @ May 19th 2006 4:49PM
Have a feeling that the "L" shaped characters are suppose to be the release date of MGS4, 07/07/07, which happens to be 20th anniversary since the release of MG on the MSX, just a hunch ;)
