Ethan,

I understand why someone wants the 'older' experience. I myself am almost 30 and own both PS2 and Gamecube. I have to say though I've put 10x the time on my Cube as I have my PS2. I love the Mario and Zelda experiences, even if there cel-shaded and look cartoony. I find realism doesn't matter as much to me. If the games fun, I can suspend my disbelief. I also enjoy games like Splinter Cell, Killer 7 and RE4. The 'more mature' games. I find though that unless a FPS or combat games does something new, I get bored very quickly with it and ultimately go back to game like Pikmin, which I thought I'd hate at first.

As for Nintendo being beaten out by MS. That actually doesn't surprise me much. It is dissapointing, but MS devoted resources to their marketing and advertising that Nintendo would never dream of. Really though, that is a criticism of Nintendo not MS. If you want to market a product well, be ready to pay for it. Those that look for cheaper alternatives are almost always left behind. After the N64 the slope was already slippery and the time was right for MS to jump in and take market share away. Their late arrival is a lot of the reason that Sony ran away with the market. Games are of course the other reason.

Geraldo,

Congratulations you're an idiot. If you are going to insist on being a simpleton, please place an Asterisk or something at the beginning of your post so I can just skip it.

I haven't seen anyone making the association of 'wii' or 'wee' meaning small. All bathroom humor aside, the new Nintendo console is tiny compared to its next-gen competitors. Just another take on it.

Why dont you do one of these stories on why Microsoft decided to call the Xbox 2 the Xbox 360?

Is it because they were pooing their pants incase someone saw the PS 3 and Xbox 2 next to each other on the shelf and thought, correctly, that the Xbox 2 was old hat, why buy an Xbox 2 when i could buy a PS 3.

Food for thought ?

I still think Wii is still a bad choice for a name. I'm mean Revolution had stuck for such a long time, and there was a lot of meaning behind the word Revolution. "Our new contoller will Revolutionize the way you play games. Our virtual console will Revolutionize retro-gaming. Be part of the Revolution..."

As much as ppl will have to get used to it, I have not heard one thing good from anyone I know about the name change. It seems to have a real negative effect on a lot of ppl. I had some ppl that were starting to get back into Nintendo with the DS and having fun with the games on there.

Now all I hear was how the name has turned Nintendo into one big d*** joke. They are so turned off by the name change alone. One of my buddies even went as far as to say that they are not giving one more cent to Nintendo, all because of the riduculous name.

I know that I'll still get a Nintendo system. Maybe Wii will be a marketing slogan for "What Is It" and then they reveal a new name. Here's hoping for a new name by tomorrow.

*crosses fingers*

I'm still grumbling/grinding my teeth/refusing to say or write it. Marketing coup of genius or blunder of the year? You make the call. I still have this unsettling feeling, like there's some mysterious guy on the loose molesting the elderly in my neighborhood.
*shudders*
Ugh!

Why, Nintendo?

OH I GET IT! IT MEANS PISS! LOLZORZ!!!1!1

Come on guys, what's in a name? A rose, by any other name, would be just as fun to play video games on.

Like one of the posters above mentioned: a game with a title like "Wii Mario" (we mario), Wii Tennis (we tennis), is totally casual--and inviting. I wonder how much of an influence the game "Katamari Damacy" had on the Nintendo Brain Trust, as the sequel of that unconventional (yet appealing to both casual and hardcore) franchise is "We Love Katamari".

The marketing of games can certainly get easier; a "join us" mentality.

GuyManDude, you missed one. A lot of people right now are asking:

What'd
Iwata
Imbibe? [when he ok'd the name]

sorry, had to squeeze that one in there. It might upset the fanboys, but I'll have you know I'm still in the "Hasn't made a piss joke yet" club. :)

When I saw 'Wii' I thought 'We'. Not 'Wee'. And while the joke is funny the first few times, it's not anymore. I don't think it's going to destroy the console, and it's about as mature as 'xbox'. What does that even mean?

Wii is an aweful name. Think of all the other rumored names:
Revolution
Go
nPlay
N5

Then they go and call it "Wii".
