Chris Kohler at
Game|Life is live blogging the Square Enix press conference. Here is what we know so far:
- Release dates, galore! Valkyrie Profile on PSP July 18, Valkyrie Profile 2 in September, Final Fantasy III and Rocket Slime in September, and ... Final Fantasy XII in October.
- Mobile games, galore! Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode coming this year, based on PS2 version. Also a remake of original Final Fantasy Adventure ("looks like a straight port with much nicer graphics") and new Mana title.
- Dragon Quest Swords for the Nintendo Wii ... ! Announced as launch title.
- Crisis Core trailer looking nice, but all cinematics - "Big WORK IN PROGRESS thing at the end."
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates -- 4-player action on Nintendo DS
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers for Wii.
- Final Fantasy XIII on PlayStation 3 -- no surprise, but still mega-exciting. "Looks amazing. Female protagonist. Dramatic battles with amazing cinematic presentation." Also, Final Fantasy XIII on mobile: "It's a multiplayer RPG."
Excited? We are.

Dragon Quest Launch! W00tc0pt0rz
GlitchCog @ May 8th 2006 5:12PM
Yes, I must say that this "Dragon Quest Swords" has trumped all other excitement over Wii for me. I left Nintendo exclusivity recently and bought a PS2 pretty much entirely for DQ8. This news makes me quite happy.
Kamalot @ May 8th 2006 5:13PM
Dragon Quest Launch? Wow!!
Greg @ May 8th 2006 5:14PM
FF13 for PS3!
As happy as I am, I can't say i'm shocked. > >
Kamalot @ May 8th 2006 5:15PM
If this Dragon Quest game is a Wii launch title, how much you wanna bet it will be playable at the show. Keep your eyes peeled for hands-on impressions and screen shots.
Kaemon @ May 8th 2006 5:16PM
Uhh, it says nothing about FF13 at all, it says something FF12, and the Other FFgame, and a Remake of FFadventures which If I remember correctly was part of the mana series already and titled Sword of Mana, which I have... huh..
But yeah, Dragon quest, yay!
Greg @ May 8th 2006 5:18PM
Click that Game Life link up top, man.
Zero_ @ May 8th 2006 5:19PM
Screw Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy XII takes more than 6-7 months to translate? Wha!?
Dome @ May 8th 2006 5:19PM
looks like a dragon quest spin off like ff cronicles... not dq9
If wii gets dq9, 50% of japan belongs to wii!!! :D
ff13 for ps3. 50% of japan belongs to Sony and 30-40% of north america belongs to sony.
David @ May 8th 2006 5:19PM
I don't really understand why it takes like 8 months for ff12 to be translated to english, I mean are they gonna add crazy new features or something?
Kaemon, do you really think they are *not working on ff13? lol
Dan Choi @ May 8th 2006 5:20PM
Yes, Final Fantasy XIII! Wait, *TWO* FFXIII games... with a "[s]word-and-gun-wielding heroine who looks like Yuna, flipping her way around a high-tech, futuristic world"? Crazy!

Great news all around for Square-Enix fans. I'm happy to hear that Final Fantasy XII is getting a final release month for its PlayStation 2 United States debut. Also, how could you not be excited over Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers and Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen at the Tower of Mirrors as launch titles for Nintendo Wii? Plus, come on now...Final Fantasy XIII! Sah-weet I say!

Oh so now 5 seconds (not really) after I post its a FF13 anouncement, heh, yeah, actualy thats pretty good... now all they need is to say something about Nintendo and FF, I mean besides CC, which is good none the less.
striderhayasa @ May 8th 2006 5:22PM
uh no, Final Fantasy Adventures is the begining of the Mana story with Secret of Mana being the continuation. It was never called Sword of Mana. I'm more excited about the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles that are coming and Final Fantasy 3 for the DS. DS and Wii support in droves for Nintendo. Maybe we can go back to the Golden Era of Square/Enix and Nintendo when Super Mario RPG was hot and FF3, Secret of Mana, The 7th Saga and The Legend of Zelda all dominated on the SNES.
So much to look forward to....
B @ May 8th 2006 5:26PM
Good at least we get FFXIII for the PS3.... 3 years from now.

"Final Fantasy XIII on PlayStation 3"
Called it! In the last-call thread.
DQ for Wii is nice and all, but the title suggests to me that it'll be a hack and slash. Which again, nice and all, but we'll see if the novelty wears off quick or not. Also probably affects the Japanese market more than the US.
The FFXII US date is no surprise and is basically par for the course for FF title localizations.
Dylan @ May 8th 2006 5:31PM
Oh greaaaaaaaaattt........ I really hope the Wii doesn't just turn into the sword swinging console. I hope they were a little more creative with this one.
boots (former bd (former b)) @ May 8th 2006 5:38PM
FFXIII would be exciting if it wasn't another game with a Yuna like character. I hope the music doesn't suck this time. I hope you can move around the globe this time as you used to do in every FF before X, and not simply choose your destiny... I also hope that there's a comeback from the static camera I used to love on FF games as opposed to the "follow the character" new one. *sigh*
I know it's gonna be a great game, but I miss the old days.
WHERE THE FUCK IS CHRONO BREAK!?!?!?! :( :( :(
Oh, and yeah. WOOHHOO!!!
SuicideNinja @ May 8th 2006 5:40PM
Final Fantasy = The only reason to own a Playstation.
Unfortunately, no surprises. I'm glad the DS is getting some FF love though.
Jedi6 @ May 8th 2006 5:43PM
NOTHING for Xbox 360...
Japan rules.
idioteraser @ May 8th 2006 5:47PM
The DQ for DS which is Rocket Slime is already out in Japan been a month or two at least. They are bringing the second out to the US. Hope they bring the first which was on the GBA if I recall corectly to the US sometime.
You play a slime. It was actually in the top ten game seller list for a while.
So in reality only one Dragon Quest is new and that is the Wii version which no one knew about.
You people really need to look at a game list that mentions imports. That way you wouldn't be so ignorant at E3 when they mention the American localizations for well known Japanese games already out for months or pretty close to coming out.
doubtful @ May 8th 2006 5:52PM
FFXIII on PS3 only! :( That's too bad. I had hoped SE would see the light in a multi-console market, but it's expected. I guess the FF series ends here for me since I swore off Sony after the root-kit episode.
Kamalot @ May 8th 2006 6:04PM
Way to stick to your guns, Doubtful. I respect that.
Behind the Times @ May 10th 2006 5:18PM
I thought for sure this would be the year to announce FFT2 for the PS3.
FFTA was piss-poor. I thought PS3's tech specs would make for an as yet unrivaled fantasy strategy game.
Anybody ever hear anything about further FFT's?
