Here's an idea. Throw some gyroscope type attachment for the PSP and release this game for it. Doesn't look like they'd have to downsize it much for the PSP :P

"Hmm those graphics sure look ugly. I know nin said they werent going to compete with the big boys but they show up to e3 with that????"

I think this is more an issue with the developer and not the hardware. Given that the Wii is more powerful than the Gamecube, and the Gamecube can churn out better graphics than this, I wouldn't use this as the litmus test to gauge all Wii games, graphically speaking. Besides, Tony Hawk never looks as good as other games on their respective consoles.

"Also, im no genius here but it looks like that fancy remote is being used like its always been used, in no shot are they pointing it at the screen, maybe the nin fanboys will finally see that the wii is a scam...
im not here to fight, but cmon (guys & girls) u see the same things i see"

The controller not only can be used to point at the screen, which isn't being shown, but also has sensors to detect rotation, tilt and yaw, which is being shown. Apparantly we do see the same thing you do, but you lack the mental faculty to analyze it.

I don't care how much you say "graphics don't matter" when it comes to games, those graphics are DISGUSTING.

And the idea of using the remote to control the board seems more difficult then fun, but hey, I haven't tried it yet.

Chill out. It's quite possible those are from a tech demo, and are probably not finalized yet. Plus E3Insider's screens suck.

"Hey, uh, guys? Something I just noticed. Aren't these screenies in 16:9 format instead of 4:3?"
-Yeah, the Madden interview on IGN said it would be available in 16:9 at 480p- pleanty good enough for me, I just don't want my games getting stretched on my 16:9 TV.

That looks stupid. I mean, you're supposed to skateboard with your feet, making skate board motions with your hand just seems pretty stupid, why not make Weeshoes or something? Haha. Or strap the Weemote to your feet.

I think it's retarded that any game I play on the Wii I'll have to take some active role in the controls via flailing.

Problem is... they have to make the games accessable to the market they are looking for (non-gamers) so then the controls have to easily transfer to the game...

So now it doesn't matter if I have the skills of a neurosurgeon with my hands, or the shaking of an alzheimer's patient... I'll probably be near equal in skill just because "some degree" of sideways makes the board do one move, and "some degree" of backwards makes it do something else.

So then the games really come down to pushing buttons ALL OVER again except those buttons are motions now... and you can't relax and enjoy a good game...

Hmm... pull a trigger and push a direction with my thumb... or stand up and flail around for the same result?

If you picked flailing... you need to get out and play sports more... I do, because that is where I flail for RESULTS, when it matters to what degree my skateboard is at IRL.

Congrats, nobody went to the high-res image. It doesn't look like crap when its not compressed.

I'm starting to think that if someone developed an input device that would allow a player to control a game better than ever before, directly through the brain, and offered a more immersive experience than ever before, Nintendo would say it sucks because you aren't moving around. If I was concerned about having fun by moving around, I wouldn't be inside playing video games.

jabbertrack -- it's not about flailing about. the motions used to control the skateboarder look no different than the motions my parents made with my NES controller when they wanted to make Mario jump to the right. so I think controls like this may be highly accessible to non-gamers.

Why do people always have to have really intense faces while playing the wii?

I will say, ugly. Hopefully its a VERY early build, or running at 1000fps. Still, I wonder how well the animation plays out...

I'd also like to see someone playing it in video, not screenshot. The gameplay could be really cool.

Still, fugly...

I very much agree Tony, the controlls will be accessible to your parents, mine as well. But that was my point... it seems you missed that.

Think about it... how do you design a game that will understand a 60 year old's version of "throw ball" and also a 10 year old's version? You have to simplify the movement recognized to where you could probably just make any sort of motion that resembles throwing.

Where's the skill in that? These Wii games are going to be so dumbed down that guys like me aren't going to want to play... I'm not going to buy one... and in turn I'm not going to be dragging my parents to the TV to play when we get together for holidays...

They certainly aren't going to see an advertisement for the system and purchase it...

Nintendo is foolish by ignoring 'hardcore' gamers completely(I like to call them 'experienced) because they are the gateway to getting mom and dad.

Soon all of these old people Nintendo wants will be dead or uninterested, the 16-30 year old male will be the new 'older people', and Nintendo will be back making playing cards :(

jabbertrack,

I agree with what you are saying that the wiimote will have to accept a wide range of movements as throwing a ball, but I don't think that's going remove skill from games because of that. How much skill does it take to press a button? It's not the act, it's the timing.

jabbertrack--yeah, I can see how there could be a risk of making it so accessible that everything is dumbed down. I'm hoping that the Time article was accurate when it mentioned that the Wii was sophisticated enough to understand when his motions were slicing or lobbing the ball while playing tennis...if the machine's motion detection is that sophisticated, we could see a wide range of skills possible. However, I guess we'll have to wait and see if this is the case.

As for rejecting the hardcore gamers, I doubt any self-professed hardcore gamer exclusively plays Nintendo. His or her Gamecube right now is their second or third system. I think Nintendo--rightly, probably--assumes that the majority of hardcore gamers will buy a Wii for Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros., etc. anyways, regardless of how they may try to appeal to the vast untapped market. I think there may be plenty to entice hardcore besides these 1st party games...Red Steel and CoD come to mind right now.

but I guess we'll see.

Fuck the naysayers!
This game looks good enough to be servicable and also looks like a fairly fun thing to play. And when you get so into it that your face fucks up like that guys, well then you no it's gunna be good!
Plus seriously, who cares about the graphics, mind you I hope they make it seem like you're going fast, because from those screens it seems like the characters are going pretty slow, mind you I guess that's the problem with static images...

Since when did "simple" become synonymous with "dumbed-down"?

The more pictures that I see of people using the Wiimote, the less excited I get about this concept. I just don't relish making myself look like a tool while playing a game. If I can still sit on my couch and use MUCH less flamboyant motionts I think it would still be pretty cool. Just please don't make me jump around like an idiot!!

i cant wait till i can see some video of this thing instead of the Nintendo produced screenshots of actors and models using the remote. and you can tell these people are not even playing a game they are posing.
And so what if the games are a little simple or dumbed down aslong as they are fun. If you want a more hardcore style of play then get yourself a PC or a 360, but if you want something simple and family friendly get the WII. Whats wrong with that? I will never understand why there can only be one.

Saying graphics dont make a game is true but that doesnt cut it in the "next-generation" of gaming. It looks horrible. I hope it turns out better of the dev is just crappy.

I was a Nintendo fan boy. Then I bought a PC and now I haven't touched the GCN in months... Not since Chibi Robo.

I used to like NIntendo, and now this is just another reminder in a long string that tell me why I have lost interest in them. This game looks exactly like the kind of sh*t that gets dumped in PS One bargain bins at the store.

Congrats, Nintendo, your hardware is piece of f*cking steaming turd.
