Rumor: Wii to sell for $249? [update 2]

Some speculative Wii details have begun hitting internet forums. From the post: "I just picked up the EGM issue with Zelda on the cover that I spoke about in the Nintendo conference. There are new Zelda shots, looks GREAT... There's also pics of Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk, Rayman and Red Steel."

Here's what else shows up in the thread:

$249 Price tag [we've learned that this price may not be accurate.]
Virtual Consoler (we knew this)
3d Controller (we knew this)
ALWAYS online (console is always online, even when OFF)
Built in speaker on the controller

Less than a day, and we'll know for sure or not how much of the above is true.

ok, you are all REALLY pissing me off.
the 360 should only cost $300 for being a "souped up" xbox? get real! this thing is the NEXT GEN. If you dont like the price, go F*** yourself, and get/keep the original xbox. nobody is asking you to get awsome graphics/gameplay/audio/extras/etc, thats why its called NEXT GEN. NEXT GEN is ussually a TAD more expensive THAN THE OLD STUFF!
and the ps3, I can agree, they are going insane with the price. $350-$400 is a great price range, same as the "souped-up" 360. the ps3 will have great graphics, and more game time with the new disk reader. that is all.
but for you wii haters, YES the name SUCKS. It sucks a fat one. but think about it: nintendo is selling their next gen system for less then $300. that is great news! they have a wireless controller that can be used LIKE A SWORDS OR A GUN OR A FISHING ROD, goddDAMMIT! THAT IS NEXT GEN! the xbox controller is almost the friggen same, just the games have been updated for better gameplay and graphics. the wii is the best priced system on the market, and if they can get the developers behind them , they can rule the gaming EMPIRE. remember, its the games that make or break a system, no matter what the price is, no matter how awsome the graphics are, no matter how many extras they have, its the games that make them worth the while. If you think the paying one hundred extra dollars for a dvd player for the wii is insane, go BUY A REGULAR ONE FOR YOUR TV. THEY ARE REALLY CHEAP.

This is the next gen. Prices rise as technology gets more expensive for companies to buy, and they still need some profit for the next next gen systems. Dont think something will suck because the idea sucks.

You want an example? Kingdom Hearts. Microsoft going console gaming. Microsoft making a handheld console. The wii will most likely rock the very foundations of the gaming soil. Dont waste your breath denouncing it until youve played with it.

It would be more sensible if they put a headphone jack in the controller instead of a speaker, because a moving speaker would be annoying and besides... I've had to fuss with not-long-enough headphone cables for playing my cube at night when I dont want to disturb anyone else, and I assume there have been others with this predicament...
