I believe it, the analysts were right about the ps3 being $900 so they must be right about this

The one thing that?s more annoying than using improper English is the pompous asses that point it out.

Yes - the tacked on controller sensor design is going to make it hard for Microsoft to compete with. You know, instead of the more important 'other side of the coin' that clearly says "our console is $200 more".

ANALyst = idiot/troll.

First of all: Wii and PS3?s motion detection schemes are not the same, in the sense that the PS3?s is far limited when compared to Nintendo?s.

The PS3 controller, employing accelerometers (and possibly, but not necessarily, a gyroscopic mechanism of some sort) will be able to detect tilt and acceleration. This last factor, through proper calculus, can yield some more motion data, albeit limited and, due to the nature of the type of sensor used, not very precise.

The Wii controller will be able to detect tilt, acceleration, speed and position. That?s courtesy of those funky sensor bars you have to place on top and beside your TV screen. These bars not only deliver information on those two extra factors (sped and position) almost directly, but also with a much higher degree of precision: that?s what makes pointing at spots on the screen possible, something the ?new? PS3 controller would be hard pressed to achieve.

That, coupled with the hugely different forma factor (?one-hand-wand? versus ?two-hand-block?), makes the apparent ease in developing motion-sensing games that translate well across both controllers go out the window!

That said, It?d be easy enough for Microsoft to come up with something similar: like everyone?s been pointing out, they already have a patent and yada yada yada :-P

And in the end, consumer demand for motion sensing interfaces will only arise if the games are truly fun to play. Again, it all boils down to THE GAMES. I?m sure there will be great gaming gems to come out of this, but also loads more gimmicky trash that noone Wiill care about.

Am I the only one who doesn't want motion sensing on my controller? I move that thing around all the time. I don't want my characters reacting every time I tilt the controller. Also, this analyst isn't talking about the complete lack of force feedback. The new controllers will require the gamer remain steady while simultaneously sacrificing immersion. I hope this new "feature" can be disabled in most games.

Man these analyst have been smoking some serious ganja, I mean it must be really good. Because Lets assume for ten seconds, SOny Sly Raccooned this idea, and said "AAAAHA! NOw nintendo your games aren't protected From being ported right to our system! GOTCHA!" Let's Look at the crowd they would be porting For?

You just spent, 600 dollars, or 500 dollars, For a port from a system you could have bought for 250. You then got a graphically poor port with less control than the original game on the competitors system. WOW These analyst Get Paid for this you say? Just cause your honda civic has a Steering wheel doesn't mean you are going to start taking down Evos in midnight street races. Same goes for systems, just cause the PS3 has a Motion sensor control doesn't mean they will be able to play Nintendo WII games. HEll they could barely port games from the dreamcast, on to the PS2, now they are going to be able to change whole control schemes and graphical abilities just to get a game off the WII console on to the PS3? At which point does sony get offend, and yell "HEY MAYBE THEY WILL COPY US!".

People brag about this super powerful system then anticipate it porting games from their "UnderPowered" competitors as if this is a good thing. Only this time the difference are just to broad. So I want to Know how is this bad for Xbox 360? Analyst are anticipating sony getting Ports for the Nintendo WII, which you can get for less if you just buy the WII. IF now the games are different wouldn't you just buy a Nintendo WII and a Xbox 360? I mean by the analyst assumptions SOny is just trying to get Nintendo games anyway, why play the same games for 600 dollars for what you can pay for 250. I mean the thought hurts my head that this is bad some how for the xbox 360.

I think the motion-sensor abilities of the DualShake are utterly irrelevant, except as a buzzword talking point for the marketing people when they're trying to sell the machine - if there more than 5 PS3 games that truly make good use of the controller's ability to judge pitch and tilt, I'll be very surprised.

The vast, vast majority of games on the PS3 won't use the motion sensor capabilities; I'd be shocked if this makes any difference to MS at all.

Personally, I'd start to worry about MS's grip on reality if they panicked over this stupid tacked-on functionality on a console that's so much more expensive (for no good reason, as near as I can tell).

I think the motion sensor in the PS3 controller will be just a bullet on a comparison list for the marketing guys but it won't be very popular. Motion sensing controllers are old school. MS released something very similar years ago, the Sidewinder Freestyle controller, and it bombed on the market. There were only a few racing games that supported it and that was that. I don't see this idea suddenly making a comeback and capturing the hearts and minds of gamers around the world when they weren't interested in the concept before.

This is ridiculous.

A lot of us don't want to be waving our arms around while we play. Video games have always been more passive entertainment... not as passive as watching television, but close. I can't imagine adding this tilt function to a game like Oblivion, and in some games it will be sooo gimmicky it will harm gameplay.

And really-- It's a controller. Do you not think Microsoft could simply make one and let us connect to the 360 with it? It's not like the 360 is a Magnavox Odyssey2 (rev 1) with the controllers hard-wired to the system. We DO have choices.

All in all, I'm happy with my 360 now more than ever. The PS3 looks like an awful amalgam of every Sony proprietary technology (and a few Logitech ones). Use our music service, use our memory sticks, use our Blu-Ray tech, use our video codecs... The PS3 was designed MORE as a trojan horse for Sony formats, and less as a pure gaming system...

And the Wii looks fun and inexpensive. I'm going to guess that people will own a Wii and 360, and skip the PS3 in droves.
