Zelda: Twilight Princess Wii features revealed
The seemingly neverending saga of the Wiimote and Zelda: Twilight Princess has finally come to a definitive close. We knew it was going to contain special Wii functionality, but now we know the hows of it. Some highlights:
- Zelda: TP will be released for both Gamecube and Wii day and date with the Wii's Q4 launch. This will be two different SKUs, not one game with dual functionality.
- An on-screen fairy serves as the Wiimotes targeting reticule; you point, she floats.
- Use the nunchuck to control your spin-attack and perform a badass thrust attack.
- Link's targeting system is handled using the Z button while forward swing is handled using the B button.
- The Wii's internal speaker will deliver "depth of sound" with weapons like the bow (and presumably the hookshot and boomerang ... no PS3 controller jokes please).
- Zelda: TP will be playable on the show floor starting tomorrow!

Bah. I want to swing the Wiimote instead of simply pressing the B trigger for a sword slash. The same for the spin-attack.

This will be a good way to judge the reaction of Lazy Americans vs. Adventurous Americans. Will the Wii have the support needed to have more games that use the 3d controller?
Coyote @ May 9th 2006 2:19PM
Great so that preregistered copy for the cube that Ive had for more than A YEAR is useless...
Why 2 versions? Is this why they delayed it so long? SO they could end up making a new version when they could have released the old one and accually given a reasonable swansong for the cube :(
I agree with mr. reason the cube version will tank horribly.
Spytap @ May 9th 2006 2:23PM
I dunno, I'll probably pick up the 'cube version. I already own a gamecube and will wait to see how the wiimote actually works (is it buggy?) before buying a Wii. When I do, I'll likely get TP though as well, but I have no problem having some fun with my gamecube in the process.

3. Bah. I want to swing the Wiimote instead of simply pressing the B trigger for a sword slash. The same for the spin-attack.
Just swing the controller when you press B.

An onscreen fairy will be the targeting reticule?
Hey! Listen! Hey! Listen! Hey! Listen!

I want to know if on the Wii version players will be able to choose to play with the Game Cube controller instead of the Wii Remote. Since players can plug Game Cube controllers into the Wii for backwards compatibility, what is to stop Nintendo from allowing players with the Wii version to play either way? I don't want to buy another version just to try playing with the Wii Remote instead of the Game Cube controller (or vice versa), allow me to do both with the Wii version.
Mark @ May 9th 2006 3:17PM
With the control differences and graphical differences obvious, I'm skeptical as that being the only ones. I'm willing to bet that there will be Wii specific content as an extra incentive to get the Wii version. Once again Nintendo angers those that have had the game pre-ordered since before November of last year.
Sam @ May 9th 2006 4:00PM
So many people will be buying both, kind of disapoints me that nintendo will be milking this game so much.
Ritz @ May 9th 2006 5:40PM
"So many people will be buying both, kind of disapoints me that nintendo will be milking this game so much."
Why?
What is wrong with a company earning as much money as possible? Besides the fact Nintendo is giving the customer the choice. Would you rather they spit on the GCN owners and make it Wii exclusive? Or just remove the Wii functionality and keep it on the GCN? You confuse me :)

Just swing the controller when you press B."
You know what I mean.

I think Nintendo got it right by not making it all physical slashing. If you think about how much you actually use the sword in some dungeons you would be tired before you know it. It still uses the motion in the nunchuck to activate the spin move and the down stab finishing move though. I applaud their decision.
Kev @ May 9th 2006 11:22PM
Will the two versions share the same save file? If I play the GCN version then eventually get a Wii can I continue my game or will I have to start over?
Alex @ May 10th 2006 3:58PM
PUT UP YOUR SWORDS, EN GAURD TROLLS!! I shall slash thee heads off via WIIMOTE!!

im SHOCKED no one has asked the BIG question here......i know NOTHING about wi-fi. will it be in all areas, or will i find myself going to mcdonalds and asking "where can i plug this in??" fee for wi-fi??
i have not got a 360, i wont TOUCH a ps3, im waiting on the wii.....MARK MY WORDS, nintendo is about to do what they used to be SO good at.......leave em ALL in the dust.
jessica @ Jul 10th 2006 7:25PM
i would have to say im am quite upset about them pushing the game back so long :( i looooove zelda but they killing it for me whats taking so long?...then they bring it out and take it back wtf??? thats like showing a starving fat person a burger and wont let em bite it....and i hope the nintindo wii isnat rediculously high like the xbox360 cause oh boy was that machine crap the graphics was nice but not worth 500 dollars clearly i think nintindo should stup up a notch and make virtual reality controllers thats well worth the money we pay now for just an updated version of systems we already have *shrugs.......but back on subject hurry the f^^k up with the game already!!! i cant take it anymore *screams .......*does the moon walk
jessica @ Jul 10th 2006 7:27PM

Sean @ Jul 18th 2006 12:57AM
I really liked the idea of a multi functional game cube game. But now that I saw the two different versions of TLP I think Nintendo made a good choice. Why they had to post pone for the game cube relies pisses me off. Also I think the Wii version should be more intuitive and have the remote control link's hand not his fairy stalker. I think I’m getting the cube version so I can play on my cube and Wii
Joy Mitchell @ Jul 20th 2006 6:32PM
So i dont Get it the Wii version is supposed to have all these different controlers ... Come on guys doesnt this get a little Ridiculous What do i do have one control in one hand and have one in the other...
