Console war vets nearly spilled their hot coffee Tuesday morning when Peter Moore's GTA tattoo-baring stunt at Microsoft's E3 keynote was over-zealously interpreted to imply exclusive rights to Grand Theft Auto IV. It quickly became clear that Sony didn't get jacked quite that badly. The first next-gen installment in Rockstar's amazingly popular yet politically touchy series will be released on both consoles simultaneously in October 2007. It's still great news for 360 owners, who won't have to wait an extra 12 months to run over high-polygon hookers. Conversely, it's a potentially signifcant blow to the golden kneecaps of the pricey PS3. Loyal Sony fanboys who go into usurious debt in order to purchase that caviar console would presumably prefer a little alone time with those dead prostitutes, at least until they get their credit card paid off. VI is Roman numerals for 6.
IV is Roman numerals for 3.
GTA 1 & 2 were 2D DOS games,
GTA3 was the New York one,
GTA4 was Vice City,
GTA5 SA
so next one should be GTA6 (VI in Roman numerals)

wow you are such a jackass, I dont kow if you remember but Vice city and San andreas were never called GTA4+5 they were just spinoffs from GTA3 that used the same engine such as GTA: London. As this is next gen and named GTA4 it means its going to be a revamped engine. Dont quit your day job.

I can't believe no one else picked up on that, the roman number for 3 is III, IV is four. Signifying that GTA3, VC, and SA were all of the GTA3 era, and this new game, GTA4 is going to be new (engine wise at least)

Anyway, I think it's great! Sony just lost their golden goose! I'm not the hugest fan of the series...all right, I'll admit. I do get some sick pleasure out of these games, they are a ton of fun. I'm looking forward to this one.

Its funny that people are mistating what he said, Im sure that Moore's GTA tattoo-baring stunt was was in relation to the announcement of exclusive episodic content for GTA and not that GTA IV was exclusive.

The game may be released simultaneously...but the PS3 won't be out for 2 whole weeks after the games release. So 360 owners will get to play the title 2 weeks Before PS3 Owners.

A lot of rumors have come and gone that the 360 was going to get exclusive rights to the next GTA and while I took those with a grain of salt, it's nice to see the GTA series is finally on a level playing field. Waiting 6 to 12 months to play the latest GTA ranked highly on the xbox suck-o-meter.

dood IV is 4 not 3. V is 5 and I is 1. You subtract them when the lower comes first.. It's GTA 4 because they are on number 4. 1 ans 2 were on PC. GTA 3 was on PS2 and GTA Vice City and San Andreas weren't true sequals. They were more like GTA 3 with just more stuff in it. GTA 3 was a true step forward in the series, just like 4 will be.

The only game I bought for PS2 in the last 3 years was San Andreas.
As it stands right now I cannot justify buying a PS3 for many years. I like the MGS series but that is pretty much it. They really pissed me off with all the lies and deception.

Ugh... Not another GTA game. They already milked out as much fun as they're gonna get. A game isn't more fun because it long, but full of boring add-ons (GTA:SA.) The stories in these games have never been too great, and now that they've added grinding your stats into the mix, It's gonna be boring. They somehow forgot the paragon of gaming that was GTA 2.
