Kojima's DS game touts vampirism and meteorology

If you spend a good deal of your time watching classic Dracula movies or, uh, the Weather Channel, you would no doubt be interested in Hideo Kojima's new DS game, Lunar Knights. Featuring loads of snarling vampires and weather effects, Gamespot notes that the game follows the adventures of two warriors looking to spill the blood of some blood-suckers. The stylus is used for plenty of actions in the game, just as you'd expect, but the interesting part comes in with the use of the DS' top screen. As your characters traverse the bottom screen, the weather above them (so to speak) will change and affect their abilities to successfully fend off the vampires plaguing the planet. If the thought of umbrella-wielding heroes slaying in the rain doesn't appeal to you, you are most likely dead inside.

Okay that just looks 'effing cool. I'm not gonna lie to you, there's so many DS games coming out I'm drooling over it's not even funny. This sounds great, *hopes are high aren't plannin' on comin' down*.

Is this based on the Lunar from Sega CD days, or is the title just similiar?

Sounds like its Boktai 2 except without that damned solar sensor. Great game just could never find anywhere to play it aka I live where no sun exists for you idiots that will be like "what you couldn't find sun? i got tons"

This is... Boktai DS, right? I'd read that Kojima was going to get rid of the daylight sensor and just simulate day/night cycles on the top screen. I guess Konami decided to change the name so that maybe people who never picked up a Boktai game before would give it a chance.

Yeah, my first thought when reading this was Boktai DS. Perhaps since they're finally getting rid of the innovative, but complete pain in the ass solar sensor (e.g. it's hard to get decent light even when sitting directly under the noon sun on a blazingly sunny day and when you are under bright sunlight, well, the damn screen is all washed out) they've decided to just give it a new name... one that will also have better appeal to the Western market.
Still, the concept (weather effects and vampires) is Boktai and the character design looks like Boktai. The chances that Kojima is doing two games with almost exactly the same themes seems pretty unlikely.

The thought of slaying vampires with an umbrella amuses me on levels I didn't know existed.

Kojima? As in Hideo Kojima? As in MGS? Excuse me if this is a stupid question, but i'm just not a big nintendo follower. I didn't know he developed for them.

From what I've read, those two aren't Django and Sabata, the main characters of Boktai. But instead, their descendents, Aaron and Lucian, respectively.
And it looks like the full title is Lunar Knights: Vampire Hunters.

Looks like an American equivalence to Boktai 3, since (I heard) we Westersners aren't going to be able to buy an English version. Sounds good, I personally liked the solar sensor, and seems easier to play aside from the stylus. Their names are Aaron, the apprentice gunsman, and Lucian, the dark swordsman, who look similary to Django and Sabata, but I personally like the Lunar Knights outfits better.
