The press release arrived with a subject line that screamed, "DON'T MISS THIS E3 CELEBRITY APPEARANCE."
A split second away from hitting the delete hotkey, I paused when I noticed that Paris Hilton was the celeb who'd be making an appearance. But this will be no typical Paris Hilton gaming appearance. This time, Ms. Hilton will be working the chubby hordes who visit the West Hall to snag her signature and maybe check out the game that will bear her name, Paris Hilton's Jewelry Case. (No joke.)
Paris will be hanging out (and we do mean hanging out) at the Gameloft booth (#2200) on Thursday for two hours. We wonder if she'll have to abide by the new E3 booth babe rules, which state: "Material, including live models, conduct that is sexually explicit and/or sexually provocative, including but not limited to nudity, partial nudity and bathing suit bottoms, are prohibited on the Show floor, all common areas, and at any access points to the Show."
Break the ESA's rules at your own risk, Paris. No sexual provocation, or we'll have you bounced. Be a good girl, got it?

In theory all these rules should be followed since well, they are LAWS, but they haven't been enforced in god knows how long and if cops were to just start enforcing all of them tomorrow, there would be riots in the streets and for good reason.

Of cause, you're given the leeway to ignore, criticise, or boycott as you wish. (criticise meaning constructive, non-"get-her-away" suggestions and observations.)

In fact, over the past few years I must say I'm getting pulled more towards far-east perception of beauty than eurocentricism. Took some getting used to, but console gaming may be responsible for this change in me.

It's a shame when a girl like her gets paid to act stupid on TV... when I'm here busting my ass trying to get an education for a job that won't pay more than a fraction of hers.

It doesn't exactly help dispel the stereotype that we're basement-dwelling 30-something creepy near-pedophiles who can't get laid and consequently purvey hentai all day.

I have a feeling her game will be on the 360 the grainy Green screen will look good on the green machine like MS said the other day Green is their favorite color. Well close enough they love the color green, $$$

Having Paris Hilton at an E3 event, is like Tom Cruise and sanity. The person has nothing to do with the latter.

oh yeah, and @8 you can't say OOOHHHHH BURN to your own comment, someone else is suppose to do that for you. That's like when one makes an argument with themselves, and then says "toshay" to thier own point. If you don't give the audience a chance to react, then you're just puting on a show for yourself, and no one enjoys watchin someone play with them selves.

Well, you probably don't want to hear about how westernized the "Far East" perception of beauty has become then. Who do you think the most popular women in Japan are? If you named a group consisting of Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and Julia Roberts, you wouldn't be too far off.
Sure, home-grown singers and actresses are popular too, but they're all dyeing their hair blonde and darkening their skin these days. This is Kumi Koda, currently the most popular Japanese (as in born in Japan) singer, outselling Ayumi Hamasaki last year: http://amadeo.blog.com/repository/107770/380976.jpg
(She's also the chick who did the FFX-2 theme song and the motion capture for that scene.)
Who does she look like to you? Put some sunglasses on her and I'd think someone had figured out a way to gene-splice Paris Hilton and J.Lo together.
I think you're probably more into your own perception of Asian beauty than most Asians' perception of beauty in general.

http://www.skinz.org/celebrity/paris-hilton/paris-hilton-wallpaper-3.jpg. In the right light, she is clearly not an unattractive young woman.
However, other pictures such as this one disturb me ever-so-slightly:

She's still got a great body, but her face makes her look like a pre-op transexual. (Don't worry, jay, it's nothing to be ashamed of.)
Relevant? Not exactly. True? You decide.

Try "in the right light, with a ton of makeup, highly paid hair stylists, and a fleet of video/photo tech people to polish her up in the final print" she's mildly attractive.
As-is, she's a skank who looks vaguely like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons.

you know what, jay? i'm REALLY sick of your condescending attitude. you need to knock it the fuck off.
"Jewelry" is equally as correct of a spelling as is "jewellery".
HOWEVER.. in this situation, "jewelry" is more correct, as it is written in American English.
get over yourself.
oh,and, @ Odds Bodkins (#27): LMAO.

"I think you're probably more into your own perception of Asian beauty than most Asians' perception of beauty in general."
On the contrary, Jeff. You seem to be focussing on the celebrity scene and the walk of life deemed ideal by such folk. Sure they do seem to idolize more American/European style.
On the other hand, I was referring more to the general public. The public joe you'd come across, walking around. One thing I've noticed in recent years visiting Japan is that they seem to have a very polarized view - one associated with celebrity scene and one associated with their real life counterpart.
My comment was more geared towards the latter, while yours was gear towards stereotype (i.e. the former).
Besides, dying hair is far from changing the physiological difference. You are talking Imagery. I was talking a more profound differences of culture in manifestation of beauty.

Gamers don't care if she has a anew game for 14 year old girls that sit in their rooms reading J-14 and texting the hot new guy in german on their sidekick. They sit arund, eat pizza, play games and sleep. They dont go shopping for jewels.
I think that, sure, its fine for her to go, but that common sence is somthing that should be used when attending an event. Aswell as picking out which to go to.
