Speaking at a special Nintendo developer event, Miyamoto has just unveiled Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii. Newcomers include: Pit (Kid Icarus), Zero Suit Samus, Wario, and ... Snake!

Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be fully compatible with the GameCube controller. Sakurai's reasoning is simple. He doesn't want to alienate gamers that prefer the traditional gamepad.

The game will feature online multiplayer. Single-player mode will see some changes, but Sakurai has declined to elaborate. Miyamoto did say (via translator) that we can expect "a very robust" single-player mode.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl will not be a launch title. Sakurai has confirmed a 2007 release.

Wario will have a special fart attack.

Kojima begged Sakurai to include Snake in the GameCube version of Smash Bros., but it was too late in the development cycle to add the character. When Brawl became a reality, Sakurai contacted Kojima and the decision was made to introduce Snake into the series. Solid Snake will use explosives ... and a cardboard box.
Snake is the only third party character confirmed for Brawl. Sakurai has confirmed that other third party characters are a definite possiblility. There was talk of Sonic...

-Stafy. Another "Only in Japan" character. Never know.
-Bubbles. After her cameo in DK: King of Swing, I wonder if it would be unreasoable to expect her appearance.
-Isaac or any other character from Golden Sun. C'mon! After the GS games were such a smash hit (no pun intended), how could they not?

Bitch somewhere else. No one wants to hear it. No I'm not a fanboy, but I'll take what news I can get. Be it news on Halo 3 or Smash Bros 3.
As for my previous comment, yeah, can someone check that that is indeed Sarah from Virtua fighter. Or is that suitless Samus. If it is Samus with no suit then it sure as hell does look like Sarah.

Joystiq is covering the wii, because it's the most interesting. Even Sony and MS fans are interested in it. It's not surprising it gets this much coverage. The lines over at E3 are testament to that (more than 190 minutes wait time over at the Nintendo booth).

Joystiq does like page hits, as it brings revenues. As such, they print what they and their readers are seeking. Frankly, I don't care about Ratchet and Clank for the PSP, but SSB:B is breaking news, and more than worthy of the site.
Third, they're at the event, and I'd go and write on what I was interested in if I were them. So if Wii is up their alley, so be it. It isn't like they haven't been harsh on the system and games, I've been glad they've been brutally honest with their appraisals, especially when some games (*ehem*Sports*ehem*) appear to be little more than quirky tech demos.
Lastly, E3 is the first time the world has really gotten its hands on a Wii-mote. I'm sucking up details like a sponge, and glad to read everyone's views on it. There's still two days to hit everything else.
Thanks Joystiq, keep it coming.
