Where's the love for console MMOs?

One genre was conspicuously absent from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft's E3 press conferences -- the humble massively multiplayer game. We at Joystiq are on the lookout for innovation in MMOs, and what better platform to push the genre to its limits than next-gen consoles? Yet few developers seem to be taking the bait.
While some console MMOs are under development, the PC is definitely the platform of choice, and nothing we saw at the keynotes has changed that. With the investment in connected online services for the next generation of consoles, it's a surprise that the MMO isn't getting any attention. Perhaps translating gameplay to console platforms is holding developers back, or perhaps it's just too early for the genre to come into its own. Either way, it will be interesting to watch the few console MMOs that are launching soon, as well as Final Fantasy XI, to get some hints of what the future holds.

I'm still bitter that they scrapped True Fantasy Live Online for Xbox live. That game looked fantastic! Would have been a great MMO, regardless that it's on a console.

Where's thge love for my wallet? Monthly Fees and payiong for upgradeable items where you are buying a fictional piece of property with real money. People piss away there hard earned cash on for a sequaence of 1's and 0's that help there life in no way (truley think about it, what do you get after wasting months playing WOW except a gut??)
Now for a lighter form of entertainment

Not only does it suck your cash for ficticious bragging rights but it also amps up the geek about ten fold. My guild in WoW decided to cancel one of our weekly raids which takes place on friday night and I actually thought to myself "Now what the hell am I gonna do".
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go cry myself to sleep.

I play one MMORPG, and that is City of Heroes. What keeps me coming back is the new content, and the MASSIVE amount of character slots you get. I'm no power-level player. I've been on CoH since launch, and my highest character is 21st level. I don't care if I ever reach 60th, because-- What then?
If the Marvel MMORPG gets on 360, it will do well, as long as they don't pull a "Star Wars Galaxies" and end up with a world filled with a million Wolverines and Venoms.

Am I the only one that thinks the developers of the pictured game are sexist? All the men are wearing full body armor, having you belive theres something big and dangerous going on, when the only woman is wearing some two peice bikini thing...

I still require an explanation as to why Pokemonline doesn't exist yet.

Huxley is by far the most interesting game I've seen out of the 360. I'm really curious to see how it goes.

If anything, the always-online functionality for Wii bodes well for MMOs. I woun't be suprized if there'll be an MMO on launch day. (or else, what content are you planning to push?)
