Wii impressions: Sonic

First off, Sonic was one of the slickest looking titles I played on Wii. Sure, it's graphically inferior to the PS3's and 360's of the world, but I left impressed from an aesthetic standpoint. The tutorial does a good job at bringing you up to speed on the controls, to which you are then quickly prompted to start the first level.
The game is fast. You only using motion sensing for minor turns as it appears you follow some sort of "virtual track." Sadly, the game felt like it still has some fine-tuning to do before it really feels right. If this is an early demo, I would say the game is off to a good start. If it's nearing completion, I hope Sega takes some time to polish up the gameplay before its final release.

Wow, that preview was...indecisive.

It sounds like alot of games are having issues with the controller, but look back at the DS. 95% of the launch titles were basically crap. It wasn't until Nintendogs that the DS really picked up, but now the DS is becoming not only the greatest handheld, but one of the greatest systems in history with new and very promising games. For those who are losing faith in the Wii, just remember the ugly DSling that grew into a beautiful DSwan.

I can't wait to see which Wii game Joystiq will cover next! /sarcasm
Seriously, though, I love the coverage Joystiq. I'm just hoping that the upcoming days will be filled with a little more than Wii titles.

Again the third parties have some polishing to do with the controls

#2 - Nintendo are the only company that bothered having playable demos!
Spike @ May 10th 2006 6:50PM
This will launch in 2007 as Sega mentioned.
For some reason, after Zelda and Mario i am expecting great things of Wild Fire.
At last Sonic RUNS.

#4 - Sony does have playable demos. Joystiq can choose which games to preview first. It just so happens they choose Wii.

Where's smash!?
defferoo @ May 10th 2006 6:59PM
actually... since there's a long line for the Wii section, they probably just went through and played all the Wii demos they wanted to play so that they wouldn't waste time by leaving and then waiting in line again...

Looks like they are returning sonic to where he belongs fast paced action.

Btw where there any cell phone users or other bluetooth devices in abundance or did you have one on you turned on when you were using the wiimote?
Hate to tell you but that can interfere with the wiimote. They did tell the audience to turn off their wireless devices at the press conferance.

I heard Sonic's going to be in Smash Brother's Wii.

I've seen the video of this running, and though it looks good visually, it also looks super awkward to control (unless the guy playing it was a total spasmo) - it seems to control like a cross between the touch screen special stages from Sonic Rush and the Sonic DS E3 demo from a couple of years back (and did anyone else notice the similarities in the visual styles?)
It looks fun in an on-rails arcade kind of way, but the next-gen Sonic looks more like the Sonic game Sega fans having been hoping for - awesome graphics, tight control and exploration.
Either that, or Shadow will roll over us in his Humvee and RUIN the whole thing.

with all the geeks there are bound to be tons of cellphones and bluetooth devices.
not to mention that there are a few more than 4 controllers in the area.
