First look: The Club (Xbox 360 & PS3)

Behind closed doors at SEGA, we got to check out
The Club, from Bizarre Creations. The title, billed as "the most addictive [3rd-person] shooter ever," prioritizes high scores and multiple replays over adventure-style roaming. Each level is short and fairly linear, as players run through the level trying to obtain the high score (which, alongside replays, will be posted online) -- a concept very similar to the ultra-addictive
Geometry Wars. Bizarre's Matt Cavanagh guided us through one level of the game (running on Xbox 360), and showed off the control scheme: the joysticks are used to move and look, switching weapons is fast, and one can press the right trigger to have the character hold his gun with two hands, allowing for more precise aim. These little details are complemented by second-generation Xbox 360 graphics that Cavanagh promised would only improve by its release -- Bizarre really played down the visuals, calling this just "a gameplay prototype -- proof of concept."
The Club is set to come out for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime in 2007.
