Overheard at E3: "Adam Sessler can't play games"

We spoke with Alexander Sliwinski of In News Weekly while at the Sony booth. Here is his story regarding a celebrity E3 spotting, paraphrased slightly: "After killing everything during my Lost Planet game session, I stood up to leave the booth. Adam Sessler from G4 quickly swooped in, picked up the controller, and started mindlessly looking around for something to kill with a goofy smile on his face. After a few moments, I didn't think he knew what was going on so I leaned over to explain he'd need to restart the game for the full experience."Video games...Yeahhhhh!!!

Not to belittle the fine folks at Joystiq, but is this really news? I don't say that to be condecending. I mean, "Is there anyone on Earth who DIDN'T know that Adam Sessler is, on his best day, a gamer poser, barely tolerated by his audience?"
It's a shame, since it seems Xplay has some decent writers, that they are represented by such crappy on-air 'talent'. And for the record, Morgan Webb IS hot. But, so is a space heater. And I wouldn't want one of those trying to make witty remarks about games.
G4, please, for god sake, invest in somebody with comedic timing.

Yeah, I bumped into him at TGS last year and I wasn't impressed- he's a major goofball and doesn't really know much about gaming. I'd actually consider watching G4 if they had someone who knew what they were talking about, but they insist on keeping people like Adam around. He's more irritating than funny. What's more, Morgan actually seems to be more apt at gaming than Adam. He may know more, but I guarantee she'd own him in Halo.

or better yet, get rid of the show all together. really, people can look up these codes that they have in magazines or on the internet, and it takes what, a minute at most? why sit through a half hour show about it?

Hey, Adam Sessler is awesome. Don't knock him.
He is the only person on G4 who actually knows what he is talking about and is a true gamer. If you had ever watched him before they forced him to partner with Morgan and made him a "loser character", you'd know that.

Yeah it's not like Adam Sesslers been doing game reviews on TV for around a decade.. oh wait, he has. Unlike these fine Joystiq bloggers who's general theme for this years E3 seems to be "We're too cool to think thats neat. Hey look a starbucks!".
I downloaded the demo last night and with ZERO direction from the game, it takes you a minute to get your bearings.
Meh Joystiq, how about some information about the games?

I think xplay is funny, but i couldnt watch more than an hour of it at a time. g4 has the potential to be a good channel, that potential is just blown alot. like fastlane. what the hell?

Thank you epobirs for pointing that out. I've played myself many a demo where I couldn't figure out what to do. I've button mashed only to find out I'm using the wrong controller. I've tried to use the controls as I presume they should be, only to find that some south paw changed the controls on me. Give the guy a break.
Also, for those of you guys out there hoping for Morgan, she is engaged and will be getting married this summer. (Actually, this might be public but I don't know if she announced this on the show, because I don't have the time to watch anymore.) So you lost your opportunity.

X=play is a good show the only show i enjoy on G4 because it actually has some point to it, but shows like CHEAT?FASTLANE? (Id say star trek but at least 1 person watches that) Streetfury is okay but theres no point to it, they could bring back more stuff from techtv

Wow, a new level of assininity. Where to start...where to start...
A. I know ubber geeks who have successfully built a fully functional 3d engine from the ground up that supports both CGI as well as ActiveX on the fly...and they couldn't touch my 10 year olds in a death match.
Ability at games being equated to ones knowledge of the concepts, technology, industry, etc. is about the most rediculous thing I have seen on this site since "only programmers can get into the industry" Oh, wait, forgot about "science makes people think in-the-box only".
Engineers build cars, drivers drive cars and reporters write about cars. While obviously a Nascar driver will likely own an engineer on a race course, which of you geniuses would bet on the driver knowing more about automobiles than the engineer or even the reporter who has been writing about them since he was 15?
B. See Post 10. Such basic common sense will likely come across much like abstract chaos physics presented in Chinese to most of you, but give it two or three reads and you might get the concept.

Of course not, becuase everything seen on TV is real. I really find it disturbing that self-aware and concious beings actually come up with these kinds of "thoughts".
D. The only person that I can think of that would claim that Adam Sessler "doesn't know video games" is either under 12 years old, was rejected from the special olympics due to diminished ability compared to the rest of the athletes, or is completely clueless as to what they are discussing. Anyone that can toss out C64 references pwns all of you, regardless of how many times you have beaten Halo.
I don't think he could write a game, nor would I be confident that he could explain the difference between a left-handed coordinate system and a right-handed one (although I would bet dollars to donuts he would be closer than most of you self-proclaimed gamer gods here), but to sit there all smug and slamming a guy because he is not omnipotent in regards to every feature and function in every game ever made is just silly and every 'point' or 'zinger' I have seen aboeve is three steps down from "silly".

When i played the lost planet Demo i didnt know WTF was up. I was tooling with the controls, l really dig it, it feels next gen to me.
And as for Sessler, from watching him i've come to the conclusion that he is on drugs, its not a bad thing. Many of us are. Hes a coool guy, i like that hes quirky and weird. Cause i mean what the fuck makes you so 'cool' and normal. Not to mention critiquing people like this is superficial, judgemental, and just plain lame.

Adam & Morgan are wooden when on screen (maybe balsa). AS presenters they are simply terrible, even my girlfriend thinks they are inept as hosts for a show about gaming. G4 you either have to go for total gaming geeks or go the other route & get decent presenters that may not know the gaming world inside out but at least make it believable.

To start it off when I fired up the LP Demo first thing I did was check the controls. Then after it was just enjoying the experience.
You can't blame him though as have you ever played one game or a few for awhile. You get use to the controls and then pick up another game.
Since you're use to the game you played more it's a bit hard to adapt. Either that or this weed is getting to my head. :D
Before G4 joined Tech TV they made you pay to watch their shows. I watched X Play long ago when they had their old set and Adam was the only host.
That was probably the best gaming show on TV until G4. Then after they didn't really cared about Xplay that much.
Now it's the stupid shows G4 puts on for it's fans, not Tech TV fans. Shows like Attack of the Show, Cheat, Arena, and all those are stupid. I want to watch a network dedicated for games not some nonesense bs.
They just want money and watching G4 E3 coverage is almost annoying. Not because of Adam but how relentless they are for you to visit their f------ site. Lame jokes aren't due to Adam but their script writers.
You say Adam knows nothing about games but did you consider him being actually a gamer nerd. Do you think they write their own script? No it's the writers so don't hate.
Only thing that keeps me watching is the games and the ladies. :)

Why should he play games? That's what the interns get paid to do. Talk about games? That's what the writting staff gets paid to do.
So writting staff works with game-playing interns. Give script to actors. They do their voice-overs then record stupid crap to show inbetween "video game reviews", if you can even call it that. Still love to have his job but I'd probably play the games.
