Overheard at E3: You're all nerds! [update 1]

For the "Women at E3" gathering today, a number of female industry professionals gathered to wear special "Girls FTW" shirts in a show of solidarity. Morgan Romine, aka Rhoulette of the Frag Dolls, led the crowd:
Rhoulette: Who knows what "FTW" means?
[Women cheer loudly]
Rhoulette: Thank God! You're all nerds!
[Update 1: "FTW" means "for teh win". Added at the request of at least one Joystiq staffer. For shame!]

Joe @ May 11th 2006 6:04PM
I think in this particular situation it means "Feel The Weight"
the.crp @ May 11th 2006 6:04PM
so where are the good looking ones?
Nizerifin @ May 11th 2006 6:26PM
Since there are more women on this earth than men, this is what becomes of those surplus so women.
Nathan @ May 11th 2006 6:33PM
Most have decent racks and are at least semi-attractive, not bad. That's all I care about... Kidding(or am I?)...
I remember playing against one of the Frag Dolls in Halo 2 a while back. She was pretty damn good. Then there was this other girl from what gaming clan I don't remember, she was a good player but damn she swore it up like a 13yr old screaming at their mom for chocolate milk.
mandarin @ May 11th 2006 6:38PM
err no way those are girls?
Levi @ May 11th 2006 6:42PM

Well, she's right!

I don't know if FTW has any meaning any more beyond being being a reverse of "WTF?," but generally it seems to mean "YES! Awesome!" Or "i pwnzor j00 n j00 no it!!!!11one" From what I'm observed, it doesn't necessarily have a "definite" meaning, but a number of similar ones.
Too bad I'm not a "babe" (yeah, we femgeeks kinda are the castoffs, I suppose...), or else I'd definitely have tried to get into E3 on "semi-booth-babe" status. Of course, I wouldn't add much to the decour, as I'd be sneaking off to play all the time. Hmmm... maybe that's not the best plan...
A person @ May 11th 2006 7:19PM
Doesn't it mean "For the win"?
John @ May 11th 2006 7:22PM
For you guys rating their looks, uh, come on...what do you think a pic of the guys at E3 would look like? We're all geeks here, not models. I mean, finally, some girls at E3 you can have a conversation with that doesn't involve a script.
Niel @ May 11th 2006 7:24PM
WTF I hate this we game too attitude. I saw Jinx from the frag dolls give an interview and she din't see smarter than the average booth babe. Maybe I'm just jealous because she is a better Halo player than me.
Nancy @ May 11th 2006 7:30PM
Ladies, feedeth not the Trollz for they will only grow larger, louder and more noxious.

i only see 3-4 decent ones
i rather meet girl at a club than at e3
superpuppy @ May 11th 2006 7:51PM
Heh, sorry Niel, this isn't a "we game too" pic, it's a "we make the games" pic. I bet you a fair number of those ladies are much smarter than the average booth babe *and* better Halo players than you. ;)
Girls FTW! m/
Girls FTW! @ May 11th 2006 8:13PM
It's ok if you don't like the ladies in the pic or if their not booth babe-ish enough for you, that's entirely your perogative. You wouldn't have a chance in hell with them anyway. They are far too cool and smart for you. ;)
another dev @ May 11th 2006 8:59PM
If I'd been at E3 I would've been in the picture, too, but I'm too busy working on another game right now to take the time off. But I would've kept to a black outfit, thanks.

OH my god! Girls play games? Since when???
Really, i think some lads out there need to realise that women are composed of more than pixels (not that women are, but you catch my drift).
Oh and to all the guys who think the girls are not up to scratch to their high standards, with an attitude like that you'd be lucky to get Tomb Raider to load. Enjoy your virginity.
Niel @ May 11th 2006 10:13PM
We understand that a lot of women are playing games but still a lot of them look down on guys that play games and label them as immature or nerd or my favorite losers. It is great that women out there are playing games or even better making games and understand that it is a form of entertainment just like watching a movie or reading a magazine, not just stuff kids do. Sorry if my above comments seem insensitive it was only directed at Jinx because deep down I really like her but she probably wouldn?t give me the time of day.

That's exactly what I was thinking ;)
THere's like 3 decent looking fifi's in that picture and I guarantee they are booth babes or something. The rest are complete She-Beasts.
I on the other hand, am gorgeous.
Maranthea @ May 12th 2006 10:53AM
With above comments like these and men in our industry wonder why we call them immature?
Kat @ May 14th 2006 12:43AM
