Wii impressions: Elebits
Elebits has Katamari potential. It's got quirky, anyone's game appeal. The premise is simple, use the Wiimote to target an object in the environment (the demo featured a fully stocked kitchen) and latch on to it with a laser beam. Then, use a push, pull, or toss motion to move the object and uncover the tiny elebits. The goal is to zap as many elebits as you can in the time allotted. The fun is that you can literally tear the environment to pieces. Granted, in its current state, the controls need work. It took nearly a minute of gameplay time to grab hold of a door handle, pull the door open, and walk through into the next room.
Zapping tiny Teletubby knockoffs, and making a mess in the process, isn't exactly mainstream gaming, but it has the potential to reach a segment of the broader demographic Nintendo is after.

James,
You can stop stroking the wiimote now. Go cover something in Kentia Hall if you can even bring yourself to leave the Nintendo booth. If the Nintendo booth served food and had a restroom, I'll bet that you'll stay there all day.

Poor James. People bash him for hating nintendo. And people bash him for loving nintendo. What is going on?
OlderGamerDude @ May 11th 2006 1:43AM
serisouly, go and play something else so we can have your clear and unbiased superior reporting on Sony or MS
BklynKid @ May 11th 2006 1:44AM
Seriously. Nintendo giving you the good reach-around at least?
SpottedNigel @ May 11th 2006 1:47AM
Thanks for covering whats important right now. Its what I want, and what a LOT of other people want. I have too many tabs open between you and CheapAssGamer open right now with all the Wii news, and thats EXACTLY how I want it.
James @ May 11th 2006 2:22AM
It's the arrogant fucks like SpottedNigel that thinks everything Nintendo is what's "important" right now. What a LOT of people want is other coverage and not just what you want SpottedNigel.

i do think there is alot of coverage on nintendo.
xbox has its one game.
but not enough on PS3.
i love nintendo.
but i think we have enough to keep us going.
give us more info on E3, not just Nintendo.

Hey - remember that there is TWENTY SEVEN playable games. So don't shoot the messenger just because the highest amount of games are on the Wii. Joystiq is a gaming site, and it's job is to tell us about ALL games - and they do their job well.
For all those who aren't impresed by the Wii - don't worry, Nintendo will no doubt go back into hibernation mode after e3. Also remember that all the Nintendo fans have had NO NEWS of games until now, whereas Xbox and Ps3 have been freely giving pix/videos for a while.
Let us have our fix

That's why you're the only one piping up...

There are 81 announced games on the Nintendo press docket. And smash bros wasn't one of them nor several others who recently got turned up.
Odd it's more games then the 360 and PS3. Guess most of the wii titles appear to be exclusives and completely original titles not ports like most PS3 and 360 games are.
Monster @ May 11th 2006 8:23AM
Would I rather read about new and unique games, or God of War 2 (I hear you run around and kill things)? Keep the Wii news rolling in, it's refreshing for once.

Man, James, you just can't catch a break. First you get bashed for having an anti-Wii bias, and then you get hammered for spending too much time with Wii and ignoring Microsoft and Sony. Fanboys never were very good with logic. Anyways, keep up the good reporting. I've been impressed with your ability to ask thought provoking questions, and not just regurgitate the hype that everyone is being spoon-fed.
Josh @ May 15th 2006 7:06AM
I like the open reporting being provided on the Wii; and yes, a lot of coverage is being devoted to it, because Nin hasn't told anyone ANYTHING on their games up till now (excepting what the controller is like). So, yes, there is a lot of coverage on it because it's all new! Whereas Sony and MS have been leaking bits of info this whole time...
Im just saddened that Nin is the only company truly taking a risk with their system; the PS3 and 360 are amped up versions of their predecessors, but they offer nothing new. The original Xbox was more revolutionary than it's successor or the PS3; the Xbox was the first system with a HD, and it turned out to be a great addition.
One thing is for sure: I can't afford the 360 (nor is there much to interest me there), and most certainly not the $500+ PS3; the Wii will likely be less, and that's something I root for.
