3rd party controller makers are already supporting Nintendo. The vc gamepad is so nongamers who missed out on several consoles can easily get legal copies of games that are hard to find as well as the games having the possiblity of being drasticaly updated.

What would you rather have people going through the dank dark corners of the web facing porn virus infested sites to find roms that are illegal and can wind you up with a 250,000 fine or 15 years in Jail?

Or would you rather have them go to a supported online service with legal games that can play all on one gamepad with the option of picking up third party controllers that more closely resemble the ones the games originally played for?

Amazing how many people if they bother to think would pick the cheap legal option.

Grow a brain Nintendo haters why don't you ask yourself why is that if you hate nintendo your psp is filled with Nintendo ROMS and you play them more then your psp games?

Nintendo haters have an enormous self loathing issue.

Nintendo doesn't want to announce their vc plans because they don't want Sony or MSoft to steal the thunder from them till Nintendo decides the time is right.

It's a console war for a reason.

So what did you want? Controller clones for each and every system? Sounds to me like you're just bitching and moaning about anything you can find. To me the classic controller represents the best possible sollution, and a damn good one at that.

Why bother? Because aside from collecting the original games, controllers, and consoles, there is NO(none, nada, zilch) better or legal way to experience these games again.

The only thing I would change about it would be to have the WiiRemote dock inside of the classic controller (are you listening nintendo?) which would then also provide rumble support.

I think the classic controller will have rumble anyway.

Nintendo didn't lose or have to pay money to Immersion since they own Immersion.

Emulate PS1 games on PSP?! But there aren't 4 trigger buttons! It doesn't match the experience of the original!

Personally, I don't want to go anywhere near the retro feel of the original NES pad...

Take the GC controller, move the L and R analog triggers down and under so they are like triggers activated by your middle fingers comfortably; make a right AND left Z button for your index fingers; make the B button like the X but obviously curved the other way and closer to A; add a button under A, call it 'C' if you must, have it curved like Y = perfect traditional controller.

Actually, just separating the digital buttons at the end of the L & R analog triggers and making one (the L button, not analog L trigger) the left Z and the other (R button, not analog), the 'C' I mentioned before would be great and leave everything compatible with the current GC line-up.

If you've played Defender on the GC, it would play better with this controller as the L analog controlled thrust, but then pushing it to far and the L BUTTON had another function. With my controller, the analog L could be pressed by your middle finger hard for full thrust and still have the L digital button for the other function...

On third thought, move Z opposite of Y below the A button and leave digital R button where it is and just add/move the analog R down and around for middle finger comfort and the the same for analog and digital L and still change B to look like the opposite of X and be closer to A. That's perfection. Well, with a bigger D pad too... Damn that thing was tiny...

I think everyone's forgetting that you can turn the wiimote sideways and it works like a classic NES pad. Frankly I think that will be uncomfortable with that tiny thing, but I'll find that out when I get my hands on one friday.
Just a note on 'bias': EVERYONE IS BIASED ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. It's ridiculous to demand completely opinion free commentary and then at the same time spew your ridiculous uninformed opinions without ever touching the controller. Frickin sanctimonious morons.

James was supposed to be more subtle about smearing Sony's competition. In my informed opionion he's not worth what Sony paid him.

Not that I want to be the one person who isn't jumping on the bias bandwagon, but does that picture not look improved? I don't know if I'm seeing things here, but it certainly looks like the shading is better and there's a higher polygon count.

Nintendo should produce a line of wireless versions of the original NES,SNES,N64, Genesis, and TG16 controllers. They should look EXACTLY like the originals, only wireless, and shouldn't be required to connect to the Wiimote. That would be cool.

Here, let me fix what you wrote:

"It's no secret that all of these platforms and their games are readily available in PIRATED formats for computers and other devices. And it's easy enough to invest in a gamepad that's as generic as Nintendo's classic controller. For Virtual Console to succeed, it's got to be clean, easy, and cheap."

This is so sad to see a gaming site, supposedly dedicated to gaming, putting crud like this out.

Sorry, but I really can't support sites that advocate this kind of stuff. Good way to get yourself barred from future events, guys.

No, Jojo, YOU are a joke. Dumbass graphic-whore comment aside, The PS controller was and still is largely a ripoff of the original SNES design. Besides, this is only for classic games. The Wii-mote is still there, after all.

Some games are not correctly emulated yet... and most people can not get an emulator started or find missing roms or use a renamer. Nintendo is shooting for the main stream player and if every one did have the emulated games they wanted then don't you think it would be alot hard to sell games... because there are way more classic games out there than most of the ps2 line up... The 3d age simply can't compare to the 2d age of gaming in terms of game play. Even with the release of the next gen I still have not seen any game or even a line up thats going to make me stop playing any retroi games...

"Remember the Virtual Boy and the Power Glove? Nothing you could say could convince any kid that these were anything less than the greatest things invented. As we soon found out, however, they sucked."

I love the Power Glove. It's so BAD!!!
