ah. Joystiq strikes again. I bet the game would've been better if it was identical but on the PS3. lol.

Seriously, give it a fucking rest with the "Joystiq is so biased" comments.

people on this site really need to understand that games can be bad. Wii games are criticized and you hear "joystiq hates the wii!" 360 games are criticized and it's "if it was on the ps3, it would've been better." Can't we accept for once that maybe some games just aren't that good and accept it?

Wow, are most posters on here so idiotic? One honest opinion and now instead of being Wii-bashers they're Microsoft death bringers?

I wish the comment section had a filter for ass hats like kay.

Anyways, It's obvious this game was doomed from the start. They basically took the Dynasty Warriors engine, upgraded the graphics and added more on screen A.I. The idea is still the same. Hit the A button as fast as possible to perform the same scripted combo over and over and over...

Oh, and I completely agree with Ludwig, such a boring game from such a creative man. What a waste.

@1
Actually maybe the game wouldve been better if the camera worked well enough to keep up with your character, or if the action werent so mind-numbingly monotonous. Hmmm, sounds like important issues to me.
Did you even read the review or just see a touch of negativity and decide to start bitching?

I'm a little disappointed. I had high hopes for this game. Oh well, I can always hope they will make improvements since it isn't the final games.

On a side note. People assuming that the website is biased because they give their opinion need to just leave. This is a blog not a news source.

Oh, and 1 more thing...

Why is it that the first person to post a comment is always the one you want to drop kick? It's like they stalk the main page for new posts just so they can be the first person to show what an asshole they are.

Maybe I'm taking this shit too seriously, but you have to admit that comments like #1 are like nails on a chalkboard, am i right?

dude, I'm not even going to trip on this blog. I watched videos of the game and it looked very repetitive. the legions of enemies were just standing around and only attacked every now and again. It's a shame though because graphically it looks great. This has always been the problem with these types of games. How do you keep it interesting from level to level?

BV you do take this crap to seriously but i do agree with you. As for the game, sometimes i like the gold old button mashers so I may check it out. Come on, final fight, xman arcade, all the DW games. Fun Button mashers.

I played this in Tokyo last week at a 360 kiosk and it was cool looking, but really repetitive and not very difficult at the starting level I was put on. A kill-counter in the right corner just keeps climbing into the hundreds, it's a pretty awesome measure of just how crazy you are getting with the wild sword swings and neon fading trails that accompany every attack, but I didn't see any reason to keep playing it for more than a sitting.

Maybe it gets deeper, more difficult and more involved, but it really was a pretty simple button-masher, with groups of enemies sitting and waiting on a hillside until you walk near them, and then they run down the hill 'Braveheart' style. No real flow or threat felt. Also, your own troops seem totally worthless, as you end up having to go kill the single last troll/orc thing yourself as 3 or 4 of your A.I. (? on that 'I' there) troops sit and parry with him until you step up and kill with some wild move, light trails in tow by simply pressing the 'x' button twice.

It does look good. I would recommend the demo if it comes to LIVE...

Actually, I agree with #10's question -- how do you make a hack-and-slash less boring? :/ I haven't played one in a while, but I'm not certain I still want to. This is an honest question, by the way.

If it's as "boring" as Dynasty Warriors, I'll play the hell out of it. Not every game has to be deep or cerebral to be fun.

Too bad it's for 360... any chance for a PC release?

The way you make a hack and slash not boring is by making it HARD.

Like, Ninja Gaiden hard. Make an individual enemy challenging by itself than ramp the difficulty up by throwing half a dozen, then a dozen, then 30, then 50, then hundreds at you at a time. The difficulty won't ramp up quite as fast as the player gets better because its hard for 100 enemies to attack one person at once, but then the player has to deal with the volume of enemies.

"Taking control of the outrageously bossy Inphyy, it didn't take long before we charged right into the midst of a horde of trolls, swinging our sword wildly in the hopes of killing everything in our path. There's really very little skill required to succeed, and even the most basic of combos is effective at taking out the fairly inept enemies."

Yay! Drakengard 3!!

But Danno, Ninja Gaiden has great enemie AI. Ryu is a bad ass but he can get totally owned if you misstep in the middle of a battle. I guess to answer my own question, N3 would need better AI for your troops and the enemy, some kind of diverse objectives so you're not just button mashing all day. Multiplayer would be awesome. (i'm not sure if n3 has multi-player)

What made the old Turtles games and Xmen and the like so great was that the multiplayer was there. I played these games, Cadash, The Avengers, Turtles, Bad Dudes, Double Dragon etc. with friends and we would watch each others backs and do double and triple teams on enemies. It was great fun. Too bad for N3 though.

Damn skippy strider, smarter, harder, more challenging!

It's gotta be WORTH learning the combos, because the combos make surviving possible.

War ain't a walk in the park!

The Kingdom under Fire games on the Xbox (also made by Phantagram) were very good. They had the button mashing bits, but you also upgraded seperate units like archers, cavalry etc and ordered them around on the battlefield. Good times.

Well, if you see the movie, and credit, you will know Korean firm, Phantagram, has taken over the production. And they used the Mizuguchi's publicity for their own advatisement. Search for Phantagram's head's interview.

GameSpot, IGN everywhere. And see what they did.

I curse you, Phantagram.

I agree with Joystiq's impression of it, but my knowledge is based soley on gameplay trailers.

The fact that they have a message for "500 kills" is a pretty good example of how unbalanced it is.

There's no doubt that the game looks awesome. I bet it'd be fun (camera aside) for a while. But it just looks like it would get tedious. I'll probably rent it, though. The number of units is truly impressive, albeit rediculous.

Bring on the Live Demo and I'd try it... more than that, I just don't know :-P

#21 pointed out Kingdom Under Fire as a game that successfully does away with the repetitiveness of hack&slashers: I agree. The diverse objectives and squad strategy are fun elements to add, even though it all can get a bit unnerving. Glad to know there?s a new KUF chapter coming to the 360.

Wouldn?t it be interesting to have a) better enemy AI, as people have already mentioned and b) better ally AI? At least you?d get the impression of a real war going on, instead of a bunch of people who really can?t/won?t fight and which you have to dispatch all by your lonesome?
