E3 booth tours: Magic the Gathering

These guys were almost hidden in the West Hall near our blogging setup on the show floor. But as you can see, Magic the Gathering has quite an interesting setup. During the time I checked it out, they were having a tournament for their multiplayer game.

How about bringing Magic to the 360? It would be perfect with the microsoft point system.

Maybe if your account was shared with your MTG:O on PC and you kept all your cards. And if it only cost 5 bucks to download the software (HDD required).
They can't in their right minds sell it as a full game, and they definitely can't afford to just write a program for the convenience of playing on your 360 and give it away when they already have a PC version for free that works fine...
I dont know. It would be cool but it would be hard for them to make money.

Can't understand why Wizards is still so clueless on the portable device front (i.e. PSP & DS). Glad to see that Konami did figure it out and will be bringing the Vs. mechanic and Marvel license to the PSP, DS, & PC this fall.

Ahh Magic Online. Talk about addictive. Four years ago I dropped about 1-2 large on that game. [And here I am complaining about POS3 pricing, but I digress.] The bad news? I spent 2-3 grand on a video game. The good news? I logged back in about six months ago, just to see what the new decks were like and see if my super ultra rare decks still stood up. Anyhoo, I ended up in a game with a guy who bought and sold a lot. His family owned a comic shop in Virginia, and he put himself through college by selling some of his complete original decks. You know, the kind that you can actually hold in your hand. For real. We got to chatting, and he agreed to take a look at my collection. After a quick perusal, he said that I could probably eBay my entire collection for about 4 grand. That's without screwing around selling it piecemeal. The better news? He told me to just hold onto them, because they'd only appreciate more. Now, he could have been blowing some serious smoke, but it seems to me the market for Magic cards is pretty robust. I think when and if I do decide to sell, I'll at least recoup my expenses. I can't think of any other video games that actually appreciate over time like that, although I'm sure MMO players out there can prove me wrong. I think I might have to log in tonight and see if my decks are still good. I just have to remember: Just Say No to Booster Packs.

Every year they have the Magic Invitational at E3 (sort of like the Magic All Star Game).
Also, Magic Online would work perfectly for being a free Xbox Live download (the client is free, the "cards" cost money to buy), except for one thing. You pretty much NEED HD to play it because there is so much writing on each card and even if you have HD, you'll have to be like three feet from the screen.
