I know ever heard of Stevie wonder or ray charles. people play with their hands and feel the keys with their hands no need to look downwhen playing, just the same when we game we know where the buttons are for the controller cuz we feel them.

Ok then! Go ahead and try and play blindfolded... Hard huh? same goes here, only difference is that you have more than 8 buttons to push and 3 pedals to step. So don't play him down if you down no about Piano; or in either case, Music. And the Mario Theme, I've heard is not that easy to play in Piano, since it was designed to be played digitally. So give the guy some credit for playing it blindfolded.

Any pianist (or any other musician, for that matter) that has to look at the keys when they play is not a good musician at all.

You must be a poser Enycma. I've played piano, and drums. Once you know where the keys are, its far easier to play without looking at your hands. Most musicians play "blind" anyway, because they spend all their time looking at the music in front of them, not the instrument they are playing. True for ANY musical instrument.

You are right about mario theme being hard though. The guy definitely has talent, but the playing blind part is just a stunt, nothing more.

I type with out looking at my keyboard all the time. Sometimes I even write super long paragraphs in less than a minute! Does that make me super awesome and skilled at typing?

what would be more impressive is if he sings the song while playing the theme ... "swing your arms, from side to side ... do the mario ..."

The mario theme is really not that hard to play (evidence: click on my name's link at the bottom of this post). And yes, playing without looking at your hands is only hard when you have to make big jumps. Otherwise it falls right under your hands...like when typing.

This guys real talent is in the arranging of the music- not the playing or blindfolding.

Yeah, having played the instrument in question for over ten years myself, I can attest to the notion that playing blindfolded really is no big deal. In fact, one of the first things that you'll learn from any formal piano tutelage is how to play without looking at the keys, as it's necessary so the performer can concentrate on the written score.

If a moderately experienced player does look at the keys while doing their stuff, it'll almost certainly be to just synchronise their hands and their brain so that a mistake isn't made; very, very few will actually look at every key before pressing it like a computer keyboard novice might.

Still, playing the Mario music *is* worthy of praise as it is notoriously difficult to get to grips with, especially if trying to learn it by ear. The blindfolding, however, is just a gimmick.

PLaying without looking at the keys is no big thing for musicians who have to read their sheet music at the same time. But I did see a video of Martin Leung playing the theme to Zelda with his back and both nads behind his back to the piano which I thought was pretty cool.
