Our very own Adams Briscoe toured around the E3 digs and grabbed a few interviews with some of the booth babes working the floor. Check the video out here. (3 minutes, 16.7MBs, iPod-compatible).
I thought the interviews were pretty well done. Thanks for not doing a typical "huhuhuh...babes" kind of interview. It seemed to me that you were trying to scope out whether these women were actually interested in gaming.
It was also clear to me that some/most of these women had major guards up. I guess three days of being pawed at will do that to a person.
In regards to some of the previous comments, did you watch the video? I find it interesting that people who post to a video game blog would have such stereotypical views of other people, considering that gamers in general are stereotyped, often to an extreme. [Do all of you have your trenchcoats on?]
Are some of the women there professional models? Yes. But some, and I would hazard a guess and say that at least 50%, are people looking to make a little extra money. They are college students, graduate students, actresses, or possibly girls who are interested in gaming and had an opportunity to get paid to go to the biggest gaming event of the year.
Your comments... "Their stupid people who's only talent is there looks, and even most of those are surgically enhanced." [BTW, it's "They're stupid people" and "their looks,"] and "I mean some have talent in something or other." - indicate to me that you have no concept of what normal people do to make a living. What's your talent jay? We already know that Mark 2000 isn't very bright, but what do you bring to the table?
I won't even venture a guess on the ages of the aformentioned posters, but regardless, they have a lot of growing up to do. It's schmucks like you that perpetuate the typical gamer sterotype.
Joystiq : [ generic, attempting-to-bond questions ] Booth Babes : [ polite, practiced responses] (they all get professional training before the convention) Booth Babes (mentally) : "Damn it...more nerds, but I'm on camera again. I thought I'd never have to breathe the same air as them after high school. Where did my career go wrong? Is it 6 yet?"
I still don't get the obsession some guys have about taking their pictures with booth babes at venues (not just gaming venues, but especially at E3). Every year, plenty of guys are waiting in line or stopping to take a picture with a people that can't stand them and are merely smiling for a paycheck. That would just piss me off, but these guys just seem oblivious.
Do these guys really think that reality doesn't exist after walking into a convention hall? Just because these women are working at a game convention doesn't mean that they suddenly think you're remotely close to "teh coolness." Just admit to yourself that you're a nerd and give up the fantasy people...girls, particularly any in upper half of "the scale," want nothing to do with you. Pick up a copy of Make magazine and find more interesting ways to use your time and your digital camera.
rant over...it's just been driving me nuts for years.
He's handsome. its all good-guy's have booth babes. the girls that are interested in the games *like me* have the interview guy-considering most of the guys there are really big nerds. fun interview!
