PC impressions: Crysis

We first got a sneak peek at Crytek's Crysis during Microsoft's keynote address earlier in the week. The demo level looked gorgeous, but on the show floor, I got to see something that almost looked better. Beautiful outdoor scenery was incredibly dynamic and encompassed everything.

Every bit of foliage looks photo-realistic. The version I saw was actually for PC and it already trumps a lot of the "next-gen" titles we've seen here.
To give you an idea of the dynamic nature of the demo, imagine being able to shoot a tree and watch it fall over across the path, obscuring your route. Many of the environmental elements work like this. Get a gun, shoot them down. You can essentially chop it down by fragments all the way from top to bottom.
Strategy also plays hand in hand with this design. When walking through all the nature, you have to be careful of enemies who are taking advantage of underbrush and trees as well. It still has all the excitement of a fast-paced FPS though, so this diverse title is definitely a must-buy for PC owners.

I'm really looking forward it. Sound like I might have to drop my plan to buy Wii and PS3 combo first. So I can get a massive upgrade for my tower on the end of this year.
The DX10 graphics card has blow my Wii and PS3 minds.
Sony's keynote? hmmm, maybe it could be mean that Sony want to buy it for PS3. Only if it will be support for keyboard and mouse. I might change my mind because high-end graphics card is almost same price as PS3.
Regard to this news - http://ps3.qj.net/PS3-Keyboard-and-Mouse-Support/pg/49/aid/38457
Keyboard and mouse hardwares are support PS3, but I have no idea if it will support for the games.

I watched the entire Sony conference and I don't remember seeing a single mention of Crysis. I also watched the entire Microsoft conference and remember seeing it there as well as on the Games for Windows montage on XBL. You must have your conferences very confused.

The devs have repeatly said that there are no plans at this time for anything other than PC, and it is released through EA Games this time, instead of Ubi like with FarCry.
All of the footage seen was shown on DirectX9 stuff, so just think about how much better it will look when it is on DirectX10 hardwear, which is what is designed for (will still run on good x9 hardware). Many of you have seen the tech demo video, it is really amazing to think that plants and things will actually be reacting to you as you brush aganist them.
If you get a chance you should check out http://www.obsidianedge.net/ , a mod that was released for multiplayer FarCry, and we are currently at work on Obsidian Edge 2, a mod for Crysis. Bad news is that our site was hacked this morning, but we plan to be up again by tommrow or sooner. Some people have no life.
We can't wait for this game to hit shelves.

This should deffenitly win best graphical game of the show. Its better then anything the ps3 or 360 has. Consoles are old news before they are even releasd in terms of graphics, which Is why I dont understand why everyone loves the best graphics so much and console gaming.
I enjoy console gaming for the games. I would love to buy crysis but unfortunetly Im not going to. Im not going to because its a windows exclusive and theres no way in hell my computer could run that. Hell I could buy a barnd new computer today and it still wouldent run that game all that great.
Thats another reason I buy console games, because the games dont lag as they get more graphically advanced.
I wish they would port the game to the 360 like with far-cry, but the developer said there are no plans at the momment to bring it to any consoles.

iirc, the game is only running in DX9 currently. DX10 isn't going to make drastic changes that effect the end user. Graphics will get "better" simply because of better hardware and software engineering. Not much to do with the fact it is going to rely on DX10. They _could_ release it as DX9 and DX10 compatable (so you could play on XP and older OS'), but then Microsoft wouldn't sell as many copies of Vista, would they?
chiax @ May 13th 2006 12:47AM
geee I thought all those demos were running on DX10 hardware already! I hope you guys are right cos I really hope my 7800gt 3500 will run this beautifully !

Definition of Crysis...
Crysis: TRUE NEXT GENERATION GRAPHICS
TRUE NEXT GENERATION ENVIRONMENTAL INTERACTION
TRUE NEXT GENERATION GAME PERIOD
PS3 and 360 look damn silly about now...Will Crysis come on a blu ray disc there Sony? Do they NEED one in order to deliver next gen content Mr Harrison?...It would appear (to even Captain Retarded AND Captain Obvious) that they don't!
Wild Homes @ May 13th 2006 8:52AM
9. Chiax:
actually, I don't believe, although I could be wrong, that any Direct3D10 compatible boards or cards exist yet. I am expecting youe 7800 will be able to run Crysis in x9 form on the same x10 disc, because with the expected slow burn of Direct3D10-based games it'd be silly to offer Crysis only to such a small install base.
Dan @ May 14th 2006 2:25AM
I bet they port it over to Xbox 360 eventually, with some downgrades in graphics and physics. Just think, if Half-Life 2 can run on the Xbox (733 Mhz processor with 64 MB or RAM) then I am sure the 360 can handle this. Never under estimate what creative coding can do!

Crysis looks amazing and is proof that PC games trump on the graphics side. If only I had thousands of dollars to keep up with PC's for the next 5 years.
