DS owners waiting in the epic line for Wii seemed to be a lot better off that those who mistakenly entered a 3-hour (at least) waiting period without some form of portable entertainment. David Simmons, who had been waiting for 2 hours and 30 minutes, was busy communicating with nearby gamers via Pictochat when I sneakily approached. While messages like "how long you been waiting" and crudely drawn genitals were being sent about, I asked David why he had chosen to toss himself into the agonizing wait. "It's because the Wii's the only thing I haven't seen yet. I wanna see if it lives up to the hype."
That seemed to be the consensus amongst the majority of people in line, perhaps lending some more weight to Nintendo's "playing = believing" marketing mantra. David who noted noted that he generally doesn't enjoy traditional games and was drawn to the Wii's unusual approach to gaming, much like he was with the Nintendo DS. It's interesting to consider that the DS itself may end up being a marketing tool for the Wii.
