In the back of the bus with Shane Kim

I had a chance to chat with Microsoft Game Studios GM Shane Kim in the back of Microsoft's well-appointed Xbox 360 Blogger Bus. After three days locked in a PR room doing the same routine, Kim's answers are pretty standardized, so he didn't really reveal anything not covered in Joystiq's previous sit-down. (Then again, it's hard to ask clever questions when your mouth is stuffed with Red Vines). However, his mere presence in the backseat is evidence of Microsoft's commitment to building their online community via the blogosphere -- a commitment easily measured in the amount of Peanut M&Ms, sodas and pizza they shoveled our way during the course of E3. I asked Shane why Sony and Nintendo would risk alienating alternative media, and he said I'd have to ask them. I told him I surely would, as soon as I finished the Red Vines. Will MS's transparent, yet tasty, attempt to influence blogs pay off, or is this post evidence that it already has?

Yeah, as a matter of fact I think it will hurt Sony and Nintendo, the coverage that was provided seems so much more comprehensive when compared to the others. Articles regarding the 360 pop up all the time, while the latest PS3 fanboy top story hasn?t changed since E3 began. The Wii info is OK but there weren't nearly as many sit downs with the people that matter.
MS is doing one hell of a good job in getting there message out to the gaming audience, with all those unimpressive game trailers and demos from the PS3, not to mention that price its really going to hurt them. AT least the Wii was something totally different that made people want to look.

Kim and Moore... these guys not only understand the industry (and hobby) but are doing a great job. The Joystiq interview with Kim was awesome... I mean, he answered questions and then kinda threw in that, "Ok kids, I'll answer your questions but let's not act like we're at a LAN party 3am in the morning after drinking 12 Mountain Dews, OK?"

The 360 Bus was the best place to get away from the convention floor and connect with bloggers and post articles. EA even stopped by to give a private demo (which I'll write about soon). Was always someone there from Microsoft, mostly the guys from their Gamerscore blog. Godfree from Gamertagradio.com, DirtyDiva and Zamees from gamertagpics.com, and Fatty Chubbs from XboxVoice.com. Somehow I missed Shane Kim, however. Hmm...
